American Idol Season Season 17 Set To Premiere On Sunday, March 3rd on ABC

I am on a 3 -week vacay here but I will seriously make time to cover American Idol this year.

Why, you may ask? What’s up MCL?

Well, yes, am the MasterClass Lady and, after a bit of a break, I suddenly feel a deep need to go back to my MCL Roots, which started with the original version of this show produced by Fox.

Plus – have you seen the promo video of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now”? It premiered during that amazing Oscars telecast last Sunday and I fell in love. Totally.

And, speaking of the Oscars, I do not think it is a coincidence that American Idol alumnae Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson were featured performers during the Academy Award show. Don’t forget – Disney-owned ABC snagged and developed both programs. Mickey Mouse may be tiny but he is Mighty. He doesn’t fool around.

As you watch the video accompanying this article, you can’t help but be intrigued and excited by the diversity of the singers. A few have already peaked my curiosity.

If this promo video is indication of the creative artistry behind this year’s season of American Idol, we are in for an exciting and entertaining ride.

And to assist in determining who America will ultimately vote for to become the next singing sensation, music industry forces and superstar judges, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie and Emmy Award-winning host and producer Ryan Seacrest will return in the reiteration of this great singing competition.

This week, the judges and host set out on a journey across the nation to discover a new crop of inspiring talent, as hopefuls audition in New York, Los Angeles and Nashville for a chance to see if they have what it takes to earn the coveted golden ticket to Hollywood.

Enjoy the show everyone. I will be away from my MCL desk on Sunday, but will catch up with the performances online. And, of course, respond to your comments and insights.

P.S. If the video doesn’t display, you can link to it HERE ON YOUTUBE.

  1. Talent on The Voice is much better than what I’ve seen so far on Idol.

  2. Louise. I didn’t catch last night’s show. Hopefully it will improve.

  3. It looks that way so far Louise. I get the impression that Idol is trying to select developmental contestants instead of the radio ready types. The male country singer from Texas was very good but then The Voice had a male country singer that sounded like he had been charting in the Top 20 for the last 10 years.

The sweat little girl whose family had lived in their car for a while from South Carolina i think was interesting but not nearly ready for prime time.

A few others have been interesting but no one has a name yet!

  4. As if the girl who lost her sight or the kid with CF weren’t enough to make you shed a tear, along came Alejandro. He was the bomb! His guitar style was completely unique, plus he plays piano and writes, and combined with his vocals, makes a one of a kind artist. Very interesting.

  5. Gene, I agree with you. The second night was somewhat better than the first, but brought me to tears a number of times. Maybe it is just me, but I don’t much care for Katy Perry as a judge, although she has toned it down from the first season.

  6. Kleenex should be an Idol sponsor for sure. I have to avoid eye contact with my wife when I’m watching some of this stuff!

I don’t care for Katy at all. She always tries to upstage the kids. Did you notice on the first night when the cute little girl, whose family had gone through a rough patch and had lived in their car for a while, told her story, Katy tried to co-op her story but it was obvious she didn’t understand what the girl was saying! Maybe she won’t hit on too many of the teenage boys this year.

  7. Gene, I am hoping since Katy is newly-engaged that she won’t flirt so much with the male contestants!!! And you are right about the fact that she made everything about her last year. I do think she has toned it down a little this year, but not enough to make me a fan.

  9. MCL, I think you will love the last singer of the night who sang his own song, Almost Heaven. He has a beautiful voice and seems super talented. Things are definitely looking up on Idol! ☺
