Pia Toscano Set To Record Her Album Next Week

What is going on with American Idol this year? According to EOnline, Top 9 Season 10 contestant, Pia Toscano is making a trip to the recording studio next week to complete her debut album.

This is the first time an eliminated American Idol contestant has had the opportunity to advance her/his career prior to the current season’s completion.

Interscope must want to capitalize on the quick money and take advantage of the show’s format to elevate album sales.

This is taking pimping to a whole new level. Elimination means an opportunity to get your foot in the door before the “winner” releases his/her album.

And, contrary to past seasons, Pia has been able to enjoy performing opportunities post-Idol. Recently, she gave an exceptional performance on Dancing With The Stars and, this Sunday, she will receive $100,000 for a private gig.

Does it even matter anymore who wins or not? Do you think this is fair to the remaining singers or no? But more important, are you happy for Pia and hope that, if eliminated, one of your favorites enjoy the same opportunity?

Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. 1. I guess I’m happy for Pia but I also think the bending of the “rules” is not fair to all the contestants who preceded Pia. And on that “note” I wanted to share that Siobhan Magnus (who in my opinion got no encouragement from TPTB on American Idol whatsoever) released a solo single today entitled “Beatrice Dream”. It can be purchased on iTunes for the “sale” price of $0.99 through tomorrow when the price will increase to $1.29. I like it a lot. It includes some signature “wailing” but it’s catchy & well-produced. Go Siobhan!!!

  2. I have mixed feelings about this. Of course, I am happy that Pia is recording her debut album. On the other hand, I can’t help but feel that this is unfair to the contestants who are still competing on the show. Things certainly have changed this season with Interscope and Jimmy Iovine. New rules! They do seem to be in this for the quick buck, trying to capitalize on the high profile of the contestants.

I don’t know what this will mean for the eventual winner. Will this person be overshadowed by Pia already having a record and getting so much publicity and opportunities for high paying gigs? I guess it depends when they release her album.

I guess the good news is that any of the top five could get the same opportunity when they are eliminated. I just think that they are risking devaluing the eventual winner. From the record company’s point of view, they seem to be hedging their bets by putting their money behind several contestants and getting Pia off to a quick start.

I did hear about Siobhan’s first single on MJ’s blog. I listened to it and think it’s a good first effort. I am anxious to hear the rest of what will be her first album produced on her own independent label. I guess this was how she needed to do it if she was going to have a chance to be heard. I think she was so badly treated by Kara and Simon and it might have hurt her at that time. Now I hope that she has a fair chance to be heard and have her success.

  4. Dearest Mindy, I’m glad that you listened to Siobhan’s single. I really do hope that she can make her mark on the music world. When I visited my friend (fellow Adam Lambert fan) this past week in Wilmington, DE, she stated that she did not like Siobhan (actually she used a stronger terminology but I can’t remember what she said). I tried to plant a seed that she should listen more to the middle of Siobhan’s voice & take out the wailing “screaming” because that middle is SO beautiful. And yes, I am still pretty angry about what happened to her last year & comparing it to what American Idol seems to be handing Pia is simply unacceptable. I would write American Idol about the discrepancy in contestant treatment, but I get the feeling that they really don’t care about us all that much. My comparison is the health insurance industry which, in my opinion, really doesn’t care about patients or health care professionals.

I so enjoy reading your comments! I’m glad you’re here.
