About Masterclass Lady
Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

Wow – lots of screaming and mass hysteria during the opening segments of this song. I wonder what will happen when he goes into the “beautiful girls” segement?
Lovely sustained notes as always. And, as I suspected, pandemonium ensues during the upbeat “beautiful girls” segment.
Great performance as always, little Archie. Some hint of vocal fatigue during the run on the second last “stand” at the end of the song, but the highest one at the very end was brilliant.
Another thing one has to consider when listening and evaluating all the singers’ performance is that the change in climate and acoustics when travelling to the different cities can really affect a singer’s natural vocal instrument.
Classical singers are more in tune to this situation and some have even asked for air conditioning to be turned off during their performances because of the negative affect it has on their voices. The humidity is actually better – keeps the cords moist, whereas air conditioning tends to dry out the vocal cords.
However, in extremely warm weather, it is imperative to drink tons of water to combat dehydration.
However, David is such a master on that stage every night, isn’t he? And, considering that was travelling to and from the Teen Awards the day before, he performed exceptionally well. All that travelling can wreak havoc on the body – plus he was talking a great deal as well.

Frogcooke, there are alot of David’s concert videos from Aug. 5th concert on Anna Arca’s website. But everytime I click on them I hear no audio. That is wierd. Are you able to get these downloaded and sent to MCL? Is there something I’m not doing or an upgrade that I need? Aaargh!!!!!!!!!!

Archie’s voice sounds nice and clear and very well rested. I wish I could see his adorable face, but darn, that voice sounds rich and resonant.
And the fans are extremely receptive – lots of screaming. And his ending is spectacular – really centered and full of ring and presence. Such vocal strength this young man possesses!
And the ovation after this song is long and hard. Perfect. That’s what I love to see. Tons and tons of Archie love

This is a better visual as the person filming this footage aims the camera to the large overhead screen. However, the camera does go astray every now and then haha!
And listen to the purity of that head voice. Yummy! And yet, he focuses his lower range extremely well. I love hearing the richness and depth of his lower voice in contrast to the riniging presence of his head voice in this song.
David has put a great deal of thought and intelligence into the artistic intepretation of this number. And yet, he makes it all look and sound so easy and effortless.
This was an extremely convincing and sophiticated performance of this song!

Okay, Angels is coming up. And listen to the crowd. Pandemonium and mass hysteria ensues and engulfs David’s beautiful vocal presence in the beginning.
However, the crowd finally comes to their senses when they realize that “Hey, we can’t hear him if we scream”. So, they do eventually calm down.
I can’t see him too well but his voice is pretty clear-a bit muffled-but clear enough.
And the “yeah yeah” section is extraordinary – extremely expressive.
As he moves into the refrain again, he encounters a minor problem with the upper note in the word”it” – he just needs to round out his mouth on the “i” vowel,as well as the vowels in the words that follow -“may take” = “meh Teh” and not push through that upper note so much. Just think over that note, Archie, and you’ll be fine.
But, his ending was phenomenal, so secure and technically strong. A solid landing indeed! Bravo!

Poor David. He trys so hard to speak to the audience, but the audience is too busy screaming and yelling “we love you David” to even give him a listen. This peech is for you people – LISTEN!! He is thanking you for your support.
And good for him for not screaming out his dialogue -he is preserving his precious voice. The song that follows requires a great deal of vocal strength and power, so he is wise to speak quietly to his audience. It conserves his voice, as well as his strength – both of which he needs in huge supply when he sings “When You Say You Love Me”.

This is a good video of David rising from the depths of the stage.
He sounds absolutely stellar once again but the song cuts out at the 2:00 minute mark -enough for me to hear the ist verse and one take of the refrain.
He does sound extremely rested, so that is a good thing indeed. Kudos my man!

Then an ear-piercing scream breaks out. It wouldn’t be a David Archuleta performance without the screams, right? And there are a lot of screams, let me tell you!
How this young man and this song came together is the stuff of perfection -pure brilliance.
Okay, there is way too much talking and hysterics in this video. This girl needs serious medical attention – this is the most insane video reaction I have seen since this tour began. Sweetie – you need to relax! Say, “Serenity now”!

Although it was an abbreviated clip, from what I heard, Jason sounded absolutely brilliant.
His upper notes in “Crazy” were ringing with head voice and his vowel formations were pure and focused – extremely well sustained.
I also loved how he kept the flow in the melody line a constant and added a liberated bluesy approach to this song.
There were some wonderful melodic variations as well. He also maintained a forward momentum throughout this song.
Additionally his phrasing was musical and expressive. Stellar performance. Keep it up, Jason! You are sounding better and better with every stop of the tour. Bravo my man!
Hopefully someone out here will send me Cookie crumbs tomorrow. Please? I want Coooookie!

Company’s gone and all is quiet again. These reviews are a little late, but here I go.

Love the close-up of Jason and love how he connects the final “oh” in the intro. to the word, “somewhere”. Beautiful phrasing indeed and I am still waiting for him to do more of this through the entire song.
There is still some fragmentation within his phrase lines – “and (breath) “the”- is an example of this.
However, the delicate arrangement of this song really doesn’t encourage Jason to sing with more vocal presence. It’s fine to sing softly, but, Jason, you have to make sure that the voice is supported with buoyancy and that the articulation of the words are precise and clear. This will add energy and focus to your vocal sound at every dynamic level, but, is very important when you sing with a softer dynamic.
Yet, I sense that you are trying to create a more fluid melodic line when singing this song, more so than when we first heard him at the beginning of this tour. Everything in time!
Another thing , Jason, practice this song a cappella and without the ukulele. This will draw your attention to your vocals and, by doing this, you will be able to concentrate on how you can improve the overall vocal performance of this song.
What if you had to sing this song without accompaniment? This is what you have to address – how to make this song sound full and alive solely through your beautiful vocal instrument.
Also, try not to drop the end of your phrases, such as “way up high”. The word “high” tends to fade away too soon – hold it for a bit and on the pure vowel – “hawwwwwwweye”. This rule can be applied to many areas in the song, but I singled this one out because it is the first instance of this technical glitch.
However, the middle section of this song was excellent, very resonant. Goodness, who is on a cell phone in the middle of my Jason’s song? Not nice. However, I love how the fans sing along with him during key sections of this song, like in the upper head voice are toward the end.

What a lovely way he has with the crowd. I already reviewed this song in Comment # 14 – but it was an abbreviated video clip. From what I heard, it was an outstanding performance.
And the full version is sounding absolutely superb. Jason – this song has improved so darn much. Your voice has glimmer and sparkle – some head voice in the mix – and this makes a huge, huge difference.
This is such an expressive, soulful performance – very distinctive and performed with authentic artistry.
Just keep working on the upper “crazy” notes = round the mouth and simply sing the pure British vowel “eh”. Your voice will certainly be more centered and focused in your vocal masque. Oh, and don’t forget to drop your jaw – use the “yawn” effect.
