MCL Picks From America’s Got Talent Season 10 Week Five Show With Videos

 Ariel Baril, America's Got Talent
Many of the acts were shown in collage videos and I have to say there was some exciting artistic potential in these videos.  In particular, I would like to give special mention to Metalachi, Animation Crew and Evoke Tap Movement. Hopefully, they will be selected for the live shows.

However, in fairness, I focused on the featured performers who stood out to me this week.

Here are my Week 5 picks!  What do you think?

The Gentlemen, Dancers:  I. Am. Officially. In. Love.  This amazing young duo rocked the stage with some phenomenal moves which were in perfect sync.  Such talent and refinement are very rare at such a young age. Love them.

Grade: A+. MCL Prediction: Will advance to the Semi-Finals. Not sure about the Top 12 because there seems to be a high degree of competition among the dancers this season.

Oz Pearlman, Mentalist:  And yes – Oz is his real name and he wants to go to Vegas and perform. He works with Heidi Klum, who guesses the number he just wrote down on a piece of paper. Kind of weird in a strange way. Then, he does the same trick with Mel Z, who writes down her favourite vacation AND who she traveled with. .  And, Oz whips out an envelope and – voila – the answer is dead on. Very smooth and engaging performer with a natural charisma. Plus, I love the name.  The only problem – the whole act felt a bit sluggish at times.

Grade: A+  MCL Prediction: Will advance to the Live Shows and perhaps the Semi – Finals

Britteny Allen, Singer:  After she erased her bad case of nerves via the wonderful assistance from the judges, Britteny’s voice and pianistic skills shone very bright indeed. She is extremely talented and sings with real emotion and passion.  She needs to work on her stage presence – this will be tough for her – but she needs a boost of confidence and I am here to give it to her in whatever way I can. A very sweet young lady that deserves that second chance.

Grade: B. MCL Prediction: Will advance to the Live Shows, Quarter-Finals. However, Howard Stern may not allow it because he feels that she is not ready.

Semeneya, Acrobatic Dancers: This Quartet had a terrific start and then, out of nowhere, one male dancer popped his knee.  Boy, who knew?  We made it through last week’s Extreme show featuring all those daredevil acts and not one injury. But, put four dancers on a stage and chaos reigns.

They came up with a compromise.  Two dancers performed a duo and it was the BOMB!  Very high energy and almost dangerous choreography.  No wonder the other male dancer popped his knee! Kudos to the other female dancer for offering a duo in place of a quartet. This was a phenomenal performance given the circumstances.

Grade: A+. MCL Prediction: Will make the Top 12. Love them!

Arielle Baril, Singer: I would not have included her in my Top Picks except for the fact that Heidi Klum hit her Golden Buzzer, automatically sending her to Radio City and the Live Shows. She is a sweet girl and, yes, there is a voice there but please – PLEASE – stop singing  O Mio Babbino in such a serious fashion. It is a comical song and meant to be sung by an older singer and with a sense of humour. Plus, Arielle was sadly suffering intonation and liberation issues that need immediate attention.

Grade: B-. MCL Prediction: Will make the Semi-Finals.

Alex Boye And His Band:  Alex performed Taylor Swift’s hit Shake It Off and it was hilarious and entertaining. What a great band!  To think that they perform only online?  Crazy. The whole band was terrific – such an eclectic group!  And Alex was choked up with gratitude for this opportunity. You’ve got to love that, huh?  Now, that was a Golden Buzzer moment. No problem – they will be very successful on this show this season – and after!!

Grade: A++  MCL Prediction: Will make the Top 10

  2. Alex Boye is well known in the David A. community as he opened for him at Sundance 6 years ago. What a blast we had that night. I might be able to drum up a video of him chatting it up with the Snarky Archies onstage, if pressed. His career has blossomed since then. Check out his videos with The Piano Guys and his multi-million views Frozen vid with another Utahan, Lexi Walker (who was on AGT last year with One Voice Children’s Choir). Ok, that was all too much info, lol.

  3. I listened to Arielle’s video. this is not what 11-year-old girls with this kind of voice should be doing (in my opinion) and with all deference to Jackie Evancho, who I think is truly a rare bird and has managed to do well beyond AGT. Arielle should be in training with a good teacher. She is not ready to be singing this kind of aria on stage. OK, that’s my rant for today. Thanks for all of your hard work watching & posting about AGT :)!!

  4. Jrzgrl – You are most welcome. It is my pleasure. I love this show.

That being said – I wouldn’t have even mentioned her except Heidi used the Golden Buzzer and I felt I had to address the performance. This young girl is NOT ready for prime time at all she has so many vocal issues I honestly do not know where to start. She is a lovely, sweet girl and I hope she gets the vocal direction and support that she needs and deserves.

  5. Totally agree about Arielle. She needs to have a good teacher and not sing adult arias in public. Agree about O mio babbino caro as well. 11-year olds aren’t really capable to understand the emotions, much less the fact that it comes from a comic opera. Aside from her not being ready, there are so many more age-appropriate songs which are also within her skill set.

In general, I am a bit tired of “O mio babbino caro” and “Nessun Dorma” on these shows. Oh well, at least she kept her clothes on unlike the lady last year.

    Love young dancers.
