Well that was quite the Performance Show last evening, wasn’t it? All four singers came out fighting and, overall, the performances were pretty even across the board.
Young Trevin Hunte faltered a bit, I thought, and I was upset for him. And, from the look on his face, he knew that his performance was not as solid as it could have been.
However, there is no denying this fact: this young man has a God-given vocal gift, one which is truly superlative in substance and style.
Cassadee Pope sang beautifully and her clear soprano voice is really a joy to hear. It is refreshing – she never over-sings, just feels her music, allowing the passion to dictate how the musical line will be vocalized.
Terry McDermott’s version of “Let It Be” was just outstanding. He really elevated his vocal style I thought – literally and figuratively. He took many vocal risks and he was well-prepared for those risks. And that head voice was clear and centred and was a prominent vocal element throughout this performance.
However, the performance of the night for me was Nicholas David’s gorgeous, heartfelt version of Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful”..
Time stopped when I heard him sing this song – it took my breath away. HIs voice was so strong and powerful and the performance so genuine. And, by the way, he has excellent technical skills. Excellent.
So, in just a couple of hours or so, one singer will leave The Voice, while the remaining three singers will move on to the Finale next week.
I think this will be the end of the road for Trevin tonight. However, this will definitely not be the end of the road in terms of the future of his vocal career. This is a huge stepping stone – a platform from which he can continue to build and hone his future in the music business.
What do you think? Who is leaving? See you in the comments section.
Nice review. Last night was a very enjoyable show. I agree with you that Trevin will likely be the one to go home. That would seem to be what the iTunes sales indicate as well. If that is the case I think Cee Lo will continue to help him and I look forward to hearing from him in the future when he is a little more sorted out.
I would be surprised if Nicholas won this thing but he is the personification of what the Voice is all about so it would be special if he made it all the way. It may be that Cassadee and Terry share the same fans and when it comes to voting for one or the other they will split. On the other hand I think they credit them for all of their iTunes sales to date for the finale. I can’t figure it out but it appears that Cassadee will likely win.
You have a couple of surprises in store for you when you watch your recording of the Buble special. One that is real neat use of technology and the other is a use of technology that you may be shocked that he used. I will leave it at that for now.

Did not watch! The Patriots were on and as they are my team and both
Melanie and Amanda were voted off last week, I passed. Watched the tubies and
in my opinion the performances were meh. Cassadee looks like a star but her tone
grates to me. Terry was meh as I have heard better performances of that song on AI,
same with Trevin and St Nick was just ok dawg.

Gene – I am watching Michael Buble’s special now. Right now. That White Christmas number was technological wizardy at is best. My favorite Christmas song of all time. What a special treat that was. This recording is a keeper.
Loving Blake and Michael’s duet. Nice to add a Christmas touch. to the lyrics. Brilliant in fact.

Take a close look when he is singing his new Christmas “standard,” which I believe comes right after his duet with the female pop singer. Forgive me for the blasphemy but he is lip syncing on that song! I have no idea why he would do that with that great orchestra, but… well, take another look at it. It was a real good show.

Hahaha Gene – yes I noticed. He and Carly Rae were both lip synching. Not sure if this happened through the whole show because some songs looked legit.
However usually they do sing live but then add a recorded version of the same song for airing. Usually. I guess it heightens the quality? I would rather see and hear the real thing. Has more character. But then I am a purist. 🙂

i think ‘they’ finally convinced terry to let them do something with his hair. he looked so much better tonight.
this year seems more true to itunes. last year i don’t think they counted it like they did this year because juliette simms was always the highest on itunes last year.

trevin seemed so sweet, smiling, and relaxed last night rather than the really fearful ‘i hope i don’t get booted tonight’ feeling. i wonder if he was aware of the itunes ‘rankings’ and that he knew he would probably be going? i would almost think so. and if that is the case…interesting to know that if he knew he was going, he was more relaxed about it than all those prior weeks.
