Vocal Masterclass Discussion Thread For American Idol Season 11: Final Judgement

Over the next two days, the Top 24 Semi-Finalists of American Idol Season 11 will be revealed.

The Final Judgement segment is always a nail-biter – very stressful to watch. I can only imagine the misery the singers and judges must endure.

And, truth be told, many excellent singers never make the cut, as experienced with possible Season 11 front-runner, Deandre Brackensick.

Last season the judges, regretfully, told him that they didn’t have a spot for him in the Top 24. This came as a shock to the viewers, especially since the judges stated that, out of all the remaining contestants, Deandre had the best hope of securing a record deal.

Well, he is back in full force and, on Wednesday and Thursday, joins many talented singers all hoping for a shot at stardom.

Enjoy the show everyone and don’t forget to hit the comments section. I always look forward to hearing from you and to meeting new fans of the Season 11 singers.

  1. I really liked yesterday’s show, but there are far too many commercials. I hate that. Well, it seems Idol is making sure that everyone gets a little bit of screen time. I was disappointed that Lauren Gray got cut, but they want her to come back next year. I don’t understand how Brielle was placed in the TOP 24. I also believe Jennifer doesn’t want Adam Brock, but the guys do. Jen’s final performance was shaking. I thought she was a lock for TOP 12 – now I’m not sure.

Most of us had a pretty good idea who would be on the TOP 24 list. For some, you can tell they are the Judge’s favorite. They really like Joshua, Heejun, and Jessica. Reed Grimm has captured Jennifer’s heart. ( I am loving Heejun’s wit and humor!)

Well, there are THREE Country gals, and I think Chelsea has the best voice, but the Judges feel Baylee can be a star. She looks like one already! She is almost too perfect compared to the other girls. Let’s hope she can deliver it vocally. LOL!

I think Chase Likens is going to be a dark horse. Not only does he look like Brandon Frasier, but he has a pretty good voice. We just haven’t seen much of him! He tried out for Season 10, but with Scotty marked as the chosen one, it was best he not get into that season. Right now, I see Jessica going all the way to the Final 2. She is unique, talented, and pretty. She just has to win people with her personality.

MCL, I am looking forward to DeAndre’s performance. I really think he’ll have a chance to make the TOP 12. I am not as sure about Colton. My mind is a bit confused on the girls and remembering who is whom. There are seven blondes and with some similar names, they need to do more to stand out. Several have powerful voices, and maybe a jazzy style.

I am looking forward to your analysis next week of each singer! It will be interesting to see the judge’s Wild Card choices. I think it may be a TOP 13. Tonight’s show sounds exciting, but only one hour? Wonder if there will be any surprises? I’d like to see it become a TOP 25.

  2. Kariann,
You’re probably right about Jennifer not wanting Brock, but I hope he makes it. I also love Heejun’s humor–neat guy and I love his voice.

For MCL and Vonnie because I know you also enjoyed Taylor Hicks from Season 5, I found a link to a new song that hopefully he will record. I really love it . . .

  3. Hi Louise,

Thank you for the Taylor link…I loved that song and I loved Taylor singing it. I hope it hits country stations as well, cause I think he has missed his calling as far as to what genre he should be singing!!!

I can see that song as couples’ song and wedding themes songs…Awsome!!!

    Hi Guys,

I have just popped back on to see where we are as far as the Idol seen goes, still waiting to watch when they hit top 12…March 7, Right???

  4. Hi everyone:

I just wanted you to know that I will be on vacation for most of March, so I don’t know what I will be able to contribute via the Vocal Masterclass articles. Like last year, I will do my best. I will add a blog topic about this soon.

I will try to right short summaries for each Performance night but, truth be told, I may not be able to catch some of the episodes.

I am praying there is a Top 13 because that means my first full VM article will be for the Top 9 versus the Top 8.

I apologize for this – this is a much needed vacation, but Idol is never far from my heart. So, I will be counting on the readers to add their perspective. I would be happy to add a separate blog topic dedicated to the readers’ observations.

Right now, these contestants are blurring in my mind. Lots of screaming and yelling on the stage! Drives me insane. Let’s see how DeAndre and the rest do tonight.

  5. MCL,

I hope you have a great, well-deserved vacation! Sounds wonderful!

The contestants “are blurring in my mind” too!!!

  6. Hi All!

Just dropping in because it’s another season of Idol! I only watched the last half of tonight’s show and haven’t watched anything until now. I usually wait for the top 24 and then get into it all.

MCL – Have a great vacation and we will hold down the fort. I will be going away for a week in March, but will be joining in on the discussion next week and when I come back.
