  1. Apparently Taylor’s career is in an upswing. He’s not only sitting on TV & movie offers but working on a country album in Nashville & is also opening up a new restaurant.

  2. Taylor is one of the hardest working Idols. He has been working pretty much non-stop ever since he won. The article only covered some of what he has been doing. It could have added Jam cruise and several Jam band collaborations, Eat to the Beat at Epcot,
The Gulf is Back tv tribute concert, as well as donating his time to worthy causes. Also with his own record label the 52,000 CD’s he sold on his own label probably netted him more money than the 700,000 he sold with Arista. He may not be a Super Star but in this business few are. However, he is a Star and I’m betting he will be around for a long time.

  3. Have no idea how the acting thing will work out, I hope well, I would love to see him more on my tv but whatever happens hes been doing well in the world of live performing. Can’t wait for the new album, hes got lots of shows coming up and being one of the headliners at Telluride this summer is not to shabby. Congrats to him on the new restaurant, sounds like its doing well.
I don’t think hes coming back, hes never been gone. One of the hardest working entertainers around.

  4. Thanks for this, MCL–you made my day to wake up reading news about Taylor! I was also quite happy for him to read that he made $3.5 doing Grease. Good for him. I’d love to see him on TV from time to time so I hope the acting thing works out. He’s a terrific entertainer!!!

  5. Very happy to see Taylor where he belongs, in his stride, making waves as an entertainer. He may have won a singing competition but he really won the hearts of the American viewing public. His ability to entertain and charm with his energetic and enthusiastic personality has always been his greatest asset. He has great pipes no doubt, can sing far better than most Idols past and present, but fact remains he is a presence in front of the camera, an endearing one that America finds it hard to resist. Good luck Taylor in your future endeavors, both on and off screen. BL

  6. i have already purchased tickets for his show in akron, oh…can’t wait!!!

  7. Taylor’s got it all – a great deal of natural charisma, great vocal pipes and a willingness and determination to make it happen for himself! I have no doubt we’ll be seeing/watching/hearing him in the years to come in whatever medium he chooses! He’ll definitely make women’s heart go all aflutter when he hits the silver screen! He’s gorgeous on top of everything else! Can’t wait!

  8. Unlike Idol-who judges success by CD sales, Taylor is a multi-talented person who is using his chance to do everything he’s dreamed of doing-he’s often said he wants to be an entertainer-which involves more than live shows and CDs-his successful run with Grease proves that-now he’s a business owner and will ALWAYS have a place to play and sing-

The Comeback Kid? How about the stubborn singer with quirky dance moves who just won’t go away?????????

Going to a couple of events next month-GOOO TAYLOR!

  9. I don’t think hes coming back, hes never been gone. One of the hardest working entertainers around.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought the same thing! Has he ever been gone? It is so good to read all the great things Taylor has done. I get upset with people on the Idol Forum who look upon him as a loser. He’s probably my favorite Idol winner!

Did anyone see his appearance on the Jimmy Fallon Show? It was terrific! I think it’s on YouTube where he, Jimmy, and Steven Colbert perform the song, “Friday.” It is so cool and so funny! No other Idol could have done the part he played, plus he played the harmonica. The combo of the three guys and the high energy of the song was perfect!

Thank you MCL for the article!

  10. You are most wlecome, Grammie Kari. And thank you for initiating this theme. I am sure all your input has made an impact on the AI team. Good for you!

Just an aside – can you log into Idolforums? I can’t access the IDF Board from any device. Really strange. This has been going on for weeks.

  11. I’m so glad to see you write a piece on Taylor Hicks again. I really enjoyed reading your critiques of his vocals during his AI run. Those of us that have been following his career since his win and attending his live concerts have been gifted with some wonderful & memorable musical moments. If you have never seen any of the videos posted at YouTube from his 2010 concert at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis, check this one out. It has everything, superb music, outstanding solos from his lead guitarist, saxophone player, & keyboardist plus an astounding vocal in the middle of the song from Taylor:

  12. Tish – it was my pleasure. I never stopped loving the guy. He is very, very talented.

  13. The Hohner harmonica company of Germany, the oldest harp maker in the world, offers an inexpensive beginners model with Taylor’s picture on the packaging. The only other artist that Hohner has any relationship with to my knowledge are Bob Dylan and Steven Tyler.
