About Masterclass Lady

Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8. In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman. In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins. In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright. 1. Wow, what a contrast to the actual eliminations!!! I wonder how many of these fans are voting? Apparently not as many as who are just clicking a fan button!

  2. Questionable voting tabulations on American Idol, perhaps? This would not be the first time!

  3. Siobhan directed us to the official AI9 contestants page quite a while back so that is where I go. It’s where the contestants are supposed to post. Are any of the Idols themselves actually posting on their own fan pages? I have not visited Siobhan’s page in a while.

Regarding the AI9 page, there have been some really awful comments posted toward her. I don’t read through the other Idol contestants comments so don’t know if they also get negative feedback. I have it on pretty good authority that Siobhan is only getting the good comments. I have allowed myself to get sucked into some heated discussions with trolls but have backed off now (not a good use of my time!).

Thanks for looking at the fan pages. I find the psychological & sociological aspects of social networking interesting. I will probably comeback & post more later.

  4. Remember that facebook is supposed to be only for ages 13+ though I don’t know what kind of age validation there is. I do think that is the main reason that Aaron Kelley is so low.

I saw a comparison graphic of facebook users vs the general US population and it is no where near the correct percentages of age groups of the general US population and probably not representative of the AI audience as well. Sorry MCL, drawing conclusions from these numbers is a fun exercise but not able to yield anything with any logical/statistical significance.

I also would like to reiterate that not all viewers are equal as well. Younger voters are pretty much guaranteed to vote more times. For example… a 12 year old might vote 20-30 times whereas a 40 year old would vote only once. This was why the judges were so insistent for her to ‘be more youthful’. It doesn’t take a genius to look at the Billboard charts and see that younger people are more likely to buy music as well.

  5. SR – but the real discrepancy lies in the 21,000 vote difference between Katie and Aaron – who are basically the same age. You would think that they would be drawing from the same voting pool.
Plus, if anyone had a more youthful approach, it was Katie. Aaron is very intense in his song selections. He was better last week, but Katie did show enormous improvement over last few weeks.

  6. While they may be the same age, I think Aaron and Katie have completely different fan bases. It is difficult on the basis of these numbers, however, to understand why Aaron is still there and Andrew and Katie aren’t!

I think Darlene is probably right, however. I tried looking at the youtube downloads yesterday when I was checking out the studio versions for her, and while you can get one picture from the official AI studio versions, you’d have to factor in all the “black market” studio versions to come up with correct numbers, not to mention the iTunes downloads themselves. And yes, the bottom line always comes down to: who is actually voting. So it is largely unpredictable.

And perhaps that is what we should take from these numbers: don’t count on anything in particular to happen on any given week. I really do think it’s a toss up at this point. If I had to put money on anyone to win, I’d pick Lee, but it’s still a guess.

  7. That’s weird, I posted something here… 😦 Oh well.

  8. (I’ve posted this four times already and yet it still doesn’t appear… There must be something wrong with my internet connection or something. Well, if all my posts suddenly appear, I apologize for spamming.)

As someone who is from another country (can’t vote) and one of 22,000+ Siobhan fans in facebook, I think IMHO internet fan bases do not necessarily reflect voters’ strength. Remember last season, Danny Gokey was generally hated in many Idol forums and sites yet, he still managed to end up in 3rd place.

And regarding Andrew Garcia… I remember he was the early front-runner in the internet polls because of his Youtube vids and that Straight Up performance, but his lead slowly dwindled and disappeared because of one mediocre performance after another. And also if I’m not mistaken his early lead was the reason why all accounts were consolidated into one single account, because it removed the element of surprise.

I follow the contestants’ updates with almost religious fervor LOL and yes, all of them get their share of haters. It’s inevitable that these people suddenly come out just to throw crap at the contestants (who probably aren’t reading all the comments anyway), that’s just the way life goes, especially when people become popular. Sometimes I wish everyone would be kind-hearted, but then again it makes like a bit boring, no? Heheh. 😛

  9. MCL,

I tracked the thread counts for the season 6 contestants to see if it revealed anything about who would win. Blake had many times the messages that Jordan had, in fact, many others had more than Jordan. In the end, it was the show that helped Jordan win, with pimp spot placements, judges’ lavish critiques, etc. Even the final song was tailored for her and Blake had to sing the same song and was not allowed to change anything.

So, I don’t think the Facebook Fan info means much. Interesting data, but it won’t explain why Lee gets praised and Siobhan gets panned by the judges.

  10. I don’t know how to edit what I just posted so I’ll add the info here:

I meant to say I tracked the # of messages and threads on the AI message boards (on their site). Also, every so often, a huge number of messages would disappear from Blake’s and Chris R’s threads…but it still didn’t hide their fan popularity on the boards.

  11. Hi,
I want to address this all of you who are upset about Siobhan being chosen VFTW’s new contestant. I love Siobhan as many of you do, and get so angry at Simon and Kara the way they criticize her, but I feel we can choose to think of this as bad or good. Let’s choose the “good.”
It’s a chiche….”If you can’t beat them join them.” Let’s join them and power vote. On their site they give great advice on how to Power vote. It can be used even for those who live outside the country, something called “Global.” If you go to their site they tell you how. For any who have ATT (I don’t) VFTW advises those who do to set up groups with differing names of the groups.
I’m even thinking of buying a Pay as you go ATT phone if it’s not too expensive to help Siobhan continue her journey.
When Kellie Pickler was on Season 5, VFTW chose her and it helped give her a lot of attention and now she’s doing well, she makes hit records and has been successful with a lot less talent than Siobhan.

Siobhan’s family can use the money; I’m sure many of you fans know this: Her father is on disability and her Mother recently loss her job at Borders. This sweet girl deserves success and I, personally, would love to help her. If VFTW propels her to either win (which she should without them) or get to 2nd or 3rd, it’ll do a lot of good.

Am I being too forward by saying all that I just did? If so, I’m sorry for anyone who may be offended.
    Thanks for reading.

  12. I’m sorry for being off the topic, but I just want to say, I wasn’t offended at all by your post, Ren. I don’t really think they can affect the voting that much, but still, it’s not bad to get a thousand extra votes from the VFTW people.

I’ve seen that international viewers can vote through the “Globe7” but I’m still figuring out how to convert the time (from US to Philippines) to make sure that any votes I cast will actually count.
