American Idol Season 7 Tour in Duluth Georgia on August 18th, 2008

Georgia, Georgia on my mind!

Great song! Great state! And, need I remind you, this is the state that delivered one of our Top 10 singers from American Idol this season – the superbly talented Michael Johns.

So, there must be an intense amount of excitement and buzz in the Georgia air in anticipation of Michael’s performance at the Gwinnett Center Arena this evening.

So, this is the place to be if you wish to share your memories of the Duluth performance with us at http://www.masterclasslady.com and I expect to see a lot of MJ links for my viewing and reviewing pleasure tomorrow.

However, we love all the singers on this site, so we look forward to recaps, photo and/or video links and general commentaries on all the singers. Or, email me your stuff at masterclasslady@hotmail.com

Looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Hmmm. Well, I feel as if we Archuleta fans just keep bringing vids. I wasn’t going to look for any, but I ‘stumbled across’ a version of Stand By Me that might be David’s best yet. His entire family was in audience, so it makes me wonder if their presence energized him. Here it is:

    Oh NO!

Trying to give poor MCL a break – she is still stuck back in Lexington.

But David keeps derailing this with bringing something new or keeps getting better –

    – I read elsewhere on several different sites that his Georgia performance of “Angels” also was the “best ever” -especially the now infamous Yeah Yeahs –
but I am NOT going to be the one to post it! (but I will if special requested)

ArchieFanDoc – please post it. I just came in the door and have to teach a voice student now, but I have some time this evening to watch and listen. Can’t wait.

I’m sooooo behind, but I will do the “catch-up” thing as fast as I can. 🙂

And David’s family was in the audience, Kathy? woooooo. No wonder he was pumped. Aren’t they off to Florida next? Lupe’s family lives somewhere in the State and I believe she is touring with Archie and giving Jeff a break.

They were there, MCL. I’ve seen pics of him with both parents and all siblings, and even an aunt and some cousins, it seems. Maybe they’re all following him to Florida? I know today was the video shoot for “Crush.” Oh, how I’d love to know how THAT went.

ArchieFanDoc, first of all hi from me I am a constant lurker and occasional poster. And you crack me up here. Look at what David made us do. Actually you remain me of myself blasting David’s “Oh Holy Night” studio version inside my car parked on my driveway in the middle of a hot summer night. I was like in heaven looking at the stars through the moonroof accompanied by his angelic voice, of course with the air conditioning in full blown.

Sorry MCL, I am so off-topic here. Just want to thank you again for your hard work here. I am still checking in every night. Can’t help with ODD.

David’s voice has a contented and peaceful quality in this performance. The vocals flow from his mouth with renewed ease and comfort.

There is very little evidence of strain or fatigue in this performance, so, for me, it emphasizes the fact that the appearance of his family at this performance had a profound impact on him.

His innovative vocal pirouettes as he embraces the melody line are spectacular and sound extremely effortless. Of course! He is surrounded by angels tonight – his loving family!

There is truly an ethereal quality to this inspiring performance. “He’s loving angels instead” – gorgeous.

And the ad lib “Oh -yeah” section is glorious and free. He adds a few more “ohs” in place of the “yeahs”, which I think is a very good call. The “oh” vowel is rounder, has more depth and intensity, and is certainly a better vowel to cling to as he appraoches the higher register. Plus there is no “y” consonant that could hinder the relaxation of his mouth and jaw.

And as he approaches and sings the final refrain he aims for a new upper note on the word “may’ and almost nails it. It’s the “aye diphthong” David – sing “eh” and keep the mouth circular and you will center the vowel with increased precision.

But he follows this with some liberated soulful melodic runs and the ending is as powerful as ever. So heartfelt, so musical and so memorable.

    Apologize uploaded by claytonaikenfan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8Q2Xc0SpPk

Can’t wait to hear this song as well. And his Perfect 5th intervals on the words “away” and “say” are a more refined and polished during this performance. Darn that “aye” diphthong. David needs to make sure that he doesn’t push the upper note in this interval. Just add some more head voice into the mix on the second note and you’ll do fine, David!

And speaking of head voice, here it comes and it is spectacular as always. And now the rhythmic descent on the stairs – I love this part.

Wow – his voice and demeanor are really intense and muscular during the ad lib (mid range)”too late” section. And look at that mouth – nice and round – and the jaw is relaxed. Wonderful! Just wonderful! Now, students, that’s how you focus your voice in your vocal masque – by cohesively sustaining on the purest vowel form in the word! No problem with the “aye” diphthong here – he has it down to a science.

Wow – this performance had my heart beating like never before. I am pumped here.

Bravo David. You are something else, my man!

Stand by Me uploaded by kaylah581 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbxZElcxVHg&eurl=http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=567425&st=8460

He sounds so happy during his dialogue with his audience. And this happy contented vibe is echoed in his singing voice. This song just flows so easily from him and accents his youthful, exuberant demeanor so very well.

I also love the adorable rhythmic steps he takes during the words, “so darlin’, darlin'”. Very good stage work indeed! Look at the fans reaching for him! haha

Now he is going to do his Mom proud by dancing -I bet she taught him a thing or two about how to move since she is such a talented dancer herself.

And that finale – yikes! Is it just me or does he hold that note on the word “stand” longer and longer with each successive performance? What a brilliant and prodigious moment in the song and that ascending run is just the icing on the cake – and this is one cake of a performance. haha.

    Bravissimo David!

Be888 – if your still checking the Duluth section — you win the crazy lady award!
While you are in your car — play CRUSH with the treble turned down and bass and subwoofer turned up – this “remaster” of Crush is great — I think the Main version is still too much treble.

MCL – again thanks – listened again to the same songs! No WYSYLM – ???? he read that he dedicated the song to his family and was the best ever.

MCL – a question about the aye, ee, y’s — would the type of song make a difference on how one enunciates the vowels.
Example – the song Angels in the Alley way from a few years ago – the line goes “please forgive me” with the “me” drawn out — David pronounces it more like a prolonged “meh” – at first I thought it was strange (doesn’t know how to pronounce the word “me” I thought) but realized that meee eee ee eee ee would sound harsh and not fit the gentleness of the song. In the power ballad of In This Moment from the final two show — he pronounces the prolonged me – meeeeeeee and of course that was just perfect.

ArchieFan -I never received the link for WYSYLM. It’s probably over at FansOfDavid, right? I just wait for everyone to post them here. hahah

Anyway, how great that he dedicated this song to his family. Very appropriate indeed!! I am sure that he sang his heart out when he performed this song in Georgia. He always does, but this performance must have been truly special.

ArchieFan – almost forgot your “aye and ee vowel” question. Sometimes pop singers experiment with the vowels, depending on what is occurring with melody line. It’s almost a stylistic approach more than anything

Classical singers, however, stick to the traditionally correct pronunciation of the pure vowel. No hank panky! Just clean, precise vowels – very British.
