The Knockouts begins this week and Mariah Carey will be on hand to mentor the singers during this final stage before the Playoffs begin.

Hopefully, she can encourage them to NOT adopt the annoying hand wipe mannerism she currently employs when she performs.

Honestly, Mariah. Put your hand in your pocket or something when you perform. You are singing, not conducting.

Anyway, on that negative note (tee hee), I hope you all enjoy this week’s shows.

The Voice airs on Monday, October 29th and Tuesday, October 30th on NBC at 8:00 PM.

About Masterclass Lady

Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8. In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman. In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins. In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright. In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins. Under Rosanne Simunovic’s direction, the Timmins Youth Singers and the Timmins Concert Singers have been featured in numerous choral festivals and performing opportunities outside of Timmins. 1. Haha, MCL…I fast forwarded through the conductors parts of the show.

Wow, Blake sent home my girl, huh! While I didn’t care for her song tonight, she has been great before.

I think the writing is on the wall, another young winner, Reagan.

  2. Vonnie,
You ask about the schedule for American Idol. It will start back Sunday March 11 from 8:00 to 10:00 Eastern.

I like Reagan and I think that if she can still sing when the live shows start, she will be a contender. She continued to do what she had been coached not to do, dropping the end of her sentences, last night. She was telling her story very well but would drop the end of the line and the meaning was lost. The question of whether or not they can actually sing without the aid of the editor will be answered soon.

Surfer dude will likely be there a s well, but I was unimpressed with him last night.

Kymberli, on team Kelly is among the best former backup singers they have had on The Voice.

Zaxai had a very good night and I like the style of music that he is singing. I wonder how popular that style will be with the voters.

I’m glad that The Voice finally discovered George Jones after all of these years. Natasia did a nice job with “Tennessee Whiskey” but found herself in a tough spot. I’m glad Blake picked her up.

I enjoy Sandyredd’s performances (a lot) but she wasn’t enunciating well last night. I couldn’t understand much of what she sang. I don’t recall that being a problem for her before though.

Miriah did a good job mentoring but I thought she was tacky with Kelly and, to a lesser extent, with Blake. She gave pretty sound advice. I wish Radha had listened to her. I think she was actually saying that she didn’t like her own version and that she should be guided more by Michael Jackson’s version. I agree with that.

  3. I was really shocked to see Katrina go home, not sure what Blake was thinking on that. Zaxia is one of my favorites from the blinds. I am glad too that Blake used his steal on Natasia.

  4. I missed Mariah…I had fast forward on speed dial. I really hope they aren’t considering her for a judge, I would really stop watching.

I wonder if Blake will bring Katrina back

  5. I liked Katrina as well, until last night. Didn’t like the song she sang and she didn’t seem to have the confidence that she had in the blind and battle rounds. She even looked different to me and not in a good way. Maybe not going on her honeymoon is wearing on her. She seemed to be very talented, especially in the blind round. Maybe he will bring her back.

Yeah i hope they don’t put Miriah on the coach’s panel either.

Have you seen a little cable show on AXS, The Ronnie Wood show? Ronnie is the other guitarist from the Rolling Stones and was with Rod Stewart and Faces in his hay day. It’s a great little insider interview show. Sir Paul McCartney was his first guest.

MCL, I didn’t notice anyone “directing” (hah hah) but there were quite a few that had adopted sort of a modified “rapper hand” style where there are a lot of emphatic motions of the off hand. The “modified” part is that what they did with their hands could be shown on prime time TV!

  6. Yeah, I didn’t care for her “electro pop” sound and look either, hopefully he will give her another chance. But I think it’s going to be the young ones again this year, Kennedy, Reagan and Abby(? From last night). Of course they may cancel each other out in votes.

I haven’t seen that show, will have to check it out. Also on the channel USA on Nov 13, there is yet another singing show coming on, but this one has my boy Tony Jackson as a contestant. It’s all country music, I think.

  7. Good show tonight! I particularly liked Kirk and my man Michael Lee. He might go with “Stormy Monday” or ‘One Way Out” next round. If a fight ever breaks out in a club he’s working, he could always pretend to be the air conditioning man and slink into a back room. He’s pretty incognito until the music starts.

Kirk just jumped out at me tonight. The break up with his girl friend came through in every lyric he sang. Great tone with a light rasp. He was excellent. Home boy too.

Sarah Grace is another one of my Blues singer favorites. I’m curious where she will go next. “That Did It” by Tedeschi Trucks Band (Susan Tedeschi) or “Three O’clock in the Morning.” Traditional Blues but Ike and Tina Turner did it very well in their earl years. They said she plays the B3 also. Bring it on. “Walking Blues” is another one that’s been done by several artist from Clapton to Melinda Doolittle.

Kennedy did a good job as did Deandre.

I have seen an ad for the show you mentioned Vonnie but I didn’t notice Tony in it. I missed my opportunity to go see him when he was here.

  8. Oh yeah, the Ben Affleck look alike, Steve, did a decent job with his cover of Allen Stone’s “Unaware.” His falsetto sounded pretty shakey at some points during pratice but he pulled it together nicely for the show.

  9. Vonnie,
I have just seen the commercial for “Real Country” that will start soon. I saw Tony Jackson this time and there is a very brief clip of a blonde headed girl who says “God gave me this voice for a reason” who may be Teea Goans. It’s hard to tell because the microphone is covering about half of her face.

That’s starting to look like a show with potential if Teea and Tony are going to be on it, not to mention an alumni of the Master Class Lady herself, Shania Twain as the Executive Producer and likely judge or coach etc.

Series premier November 13 10:00 Eastern on the USA Network.

Update: It’s not Teea, it’s a girl named Billy Jo according to the shows website. Dang!

  10. Hi Gene,

I loved Kirk as well, I think he has the potential to take this to the confetti bath. I like everyone you mentioned. Sarah Grace is my favorite of the younger ones…Kennedy has a beautiful voice, but she lacking the angst and emotion when she sings; technically she is spot on, but almost too polished.

I am really looking forward to the new show, and hoping Tony does well on it, I love his voice! Maybe MCL will cover that show too…cough, hint, hint! 😃

  11. The Voice is switching from iTunes to Apple Music voting for Season 15.

I’ve been hearing rumors that Apple may be considering closing their iTunes store, as more people stream music than download music.

  12. Vonnie,
I think you are right about Kennedy. She does have remarkable skills for her age, but maybe no “there” there.

The new show may be a vehicle for Tony, given the high powered backing he has had so far.

    Idol Girl,
I hope that Apple does not go that route. They will lose me as a customer, for what that is worth.
