You didn’t think I would forget about Kelly Clarkson’s outstanding and heartfelt performance on American Idol last Thursday, did you?

I would never. Ever. In a million years. I was saving it for a my MasterClass Monday feature because this was truly a MasterClass Moment the likes of which we have rarely see on this show – if ever.

Her performance of her self-penned composition, “Piece By Piece“, was extraordinary,  real, genuine and extremely personal.  The song, which addressed the abandonment by her father when she was young contrasted with the overwhelming love  and support she now experiences with her husband, daughter and her soon to be delivered baby boy,  was a gift to all of us.

She is our first born American Idol. We watched her blossom into a star on this show. And, no matter how many followed in her footsteps, she is and always will be our first born!  Numero Uno!

You see, Kelly IS what American Idol is all about – finding a special person who has inherited a special vocal talent and is not afraid to share it freely with the world.

And, through this song, she has invited us to walk beside her on her journey – past, present and future.  She values her fans so much and, additionally, has enormous respect for this wonderful iconic show for affording her the blessings she has now come to enjoy in her personal and professional life.

So, taking all of this in, her tears of joy and gratefulness are understandable and wonderful to behold, highlighting how invested she is in this song, her family, her fans and American Idol.

And, this just in today from EW.Com:

“Still riding the emotional wave spurred from her “Piece By Piece” performance on American Idol Thursday night, Kelly Clarkson released the live cut from the show Monday. She’ll also put out a remixed version of the album by the same name March 4, in honor of the record’s year anniversary.”

So mark this date on your calendar – you will want to grab this remix ASAP.  Unti then, you can download the “Piece By Piece” DELUXE album on iTUNES or stream it on APPLE MUSIC.

Congratulations, Kelly.  With this song, you have stolen a piece of our heart and opened a window for a heartfelt peek into  your world. Thank you. For being YOU!

Enjoy the video everyone.

  2. I was just waiting for this. I knew you would not forget you favorite idol. I commend her for singing the song, it had to be hard. Just not a voice I find captivating as others from idol, but kudos on the performance.

Still waiting for the day when you do a remarkable write up on Carrie Underwood, she has done so many things and iconic roles that she gets overshadowed. A 7x Grammy winner, how can one forget.

I thought for sure her performance of ” someone to watch over me” at the Sinatra special would have been written up here since you cover some of the Idols.

  3. Thank you Peggy. All corrected. Don’t know what I was thinking.

  4. Richard – believe it or not. I missed the Sinatra special. I couldn’t believe that I did NOT know about it. I will have to find Carrie’s performance because I have no doubt she sang this song beautifully. She really can cross genres very easily. Thank you for stopping by and commenting.

  5. Kelly was an amazing judge. Her performance had me crying my eyes out.

Idol always should have had former idols as judges and performers. It is the contestants that Idol fans want to see and hear.

  6. I was moved by her song and her singing. Keith Urban touched me. I googled him and discovered he has 2 daughters so I imagine he was thinking of his girls. I bet he cannot wait to get home and hug them.
