[Spoiler] Song Choices For American Idol Season 12 Top 4 Performance Show

Here are the Song Spoilers for Wednesday’s Top 4 Show, courtesy of The Idol Pad

I have to say, I am loving some of these songs.

“Cry Me A River”? Seriously? That is an oldie but goodie to the max and I never thought I would hear this song performed on this show – EVER!

So, suffice it to say that, similar to Amber’s performance last week of La Streisand’s “What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life”, Angie is going to have a major moment.

Amber should render an amazing performance of Donna Summer’sversion of “MacArthur Park”. Ditto for the Celine number, although I wish she had stayed clear of that particular song. Not my favorite.

Candice’s songs are superb as well and, honestly, have we ever heard her not sing well?

As of this writing, Kree’s selections were undetermined but I will update this topic with her songs when they are posted over at The Idol Pad.

About Masterclass Lady

Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8. In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman. In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins. In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright. In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins. Under Rosanne Simunovic’s direction, the Timmins Youth Singers and the Timmins Concert Singers have been featured in numerous choral festivals and performing opportunities outside of Timmins.     I’m very excited to hear Candice with Stay! I was actually thinking tonight (before I read this) that it would be an excellent song for her for the finale.

    I am checking out the song choices. If I am being honest, I wish that Amber had stayed away from Celine Dion altogether. I am not a huge fan of this song. However, I think “MacArthur Park” could be great.

    Kree is going to have her hands full with “A Whiter Shade of Pale”. Trying to do something that has been sung by the great Annie Lennox and Procol Harum is going to be a real challenge. But then, that’s what it’s supposed to be about! So maybe we will hear something special from Kree.

    I had to check out Kree’s other song choice “It Hurt So Bad” by Susan Tedeschi. This is similar to a countried Joplin song. My advice to Kree? Read the words to this song, say them out loud if necessary and then go out there and rip the heart out of it1

    I also had to check out “Who You Are” by Jessie J. This one will be a challenge for Angie, because the words are incredibly powerful. She must feel the words and get the meaning and emotion of this song. I was blown away by Angie’s second choice of “Cry Me a River” by the great Julie London! Wow! That’s a blast from the past! I actually remember Julie London, because I was listening to all kinds of music from a very young age. This is a great song, but there’s a lot to live up to with this great standard.

    I love “Emotion” by Destiny’s Child, their version of the Bee Gees great version of this song. Good choice by Candace! I can see her doing this her way. I had to listen to “Find Your Love” by Drake! I don’t know this music! The one thing I will say about this song is that there isn’t a lot of variation in the melody. It will be interesting to see what Candace does with this one.

    They didn’t put Candace and Amber together for the duets. I guess it would have been a blowout with the two of them together.

    “Emotion” is one of the prettiest songs by the Bee Gees. I know Candice will have success with it! I’m not sure who Drake is, so I don’t know his song, but Candice is very excited about it! Good news!

    “Kree is going to have her hands full with “A Whiter Shade of Pale”. If she pulls it off, she’ll have a “moment” with it. Amber’s choices are weak and I see her going home next week.

    Next week’s theme is STANDARDS and “2013” current music. I bet it will be all four girls singing. I am looking forward to these final weeks!

    I know that many online on some blog sites are writing off Amber, however they have been doing that for weeks. The girl is still in it! I am glad because that means that I get to hear for one or two more weeks. I will never get tired of that voice! I would have preferred that she stay clear of Celine Dion. If I am being honest, “The Power of Love” has never been one of my favorites. Also, if I am still being honest, I think for some people no matter what Amber chose they would diss her. That’s been happening on blog sites for a while now.

    There are some incredibly challenging songs in this list. I think since all of them have great voices, the key is going to be the right songs and most important, connecting with the words and interpreting these songs in the manner that they deserve.

    I’m going to guess when viewers picked the one-hit wonder theme that they had songs in mind like “Tubthumping,” “99 Luftballoons,” and “She Blinded Me With Science” not “MacArthur Park,” “Cry Me a River,” and “Emotions.” Actually those three songs had second life as successful covers. So, yeah this is a disappointing application of the theme.

    Amber wins worst song choices. Both songs are decades old and frankly make 18 year old Amber look a bit anachronistic. “MacArthur Park” is a rather hated or an at least polarizing song as well. It did Carrie Underwood no favors when she covered it on idol in season 4.

    Listening to the songs; Kree’s suit her alleged bluesy, country style the best. At least Candice and Angie picked songs from the decade. Amber performed “Who You Are” during Hollywood Week.

    Also, “The Power of Love” has been covered at least four times on idol.

    At this point avoiding frequently covered song seems smart.
