America’s Got Talent! Yes, the best all-round show in television also deserves bragging rights for finding a cohesive yet diverse panel of judges.
The judging trio comprised of Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel are the epitome of what every judging panel should emulate – succinct critique blended with humorous and unexpected banter.
Last summer was the first time I actually watched the entire run of America’s Got Talent.
I tuned in specifically to see what Howie Mandel would bring to the plate. I think he is a brilliant comedian but what I didn’t expect was how quickly and precisely he could provide critique to the various acts throughout the show.
Through it all, I also developed enormous respect for Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne.
Sharon was indeed a classy, intelligent artist and, yet, was warm and nurturing to the performers, while providing them with excellent feedback.
Piers was slightly more penetrating in his critiques and quite a perfectionist in his assessment of excellence on the America’s Got Talent stage.
However, all three had an undeniable charm and a strong commitment to the entertainment value of the show.
Founded by American Idol producers FremantleMedia North America and Simon Cowell’s SYCO Television, America’s Got Talent is entering it’s sixth season.
The Season Premiere, a two-hour telecast, airs on NBC on Tuesday, May 31st.
The production elements in this show are spectacular and give us a strong indication of what we can expect from Simon Cowell’s X-Factor series in the Fall.
Are you excited about the return of America’s Got Talent? Who was your favorite performer last season?

I can’t say that I’ve ever given this show a chance. One reason I’ve not watched America’s Got Talent is because of Sharon Osborne. She grates on my nerves, and the show her family did, “The Osbornes”, was a huge turn-off for me. I do think that Howie Mandell can be funny, but he often comes off as manic, and I don’t think I could watch an entire show with him judging.

Definitely agree with you, MCL. My husband and I enjoy watching America’s Got Talent over the summer. Howie’s addition to the judges panel last season was a VERY welcome change from David Hasselhoff. I thought it was really interesting to see Lauren say that she was turned down twice for AGT!!!
Did any of you see Pia perform tonight on the Memorial Day special from Washington, DC? She opened with the Stars Spangled Banner and ended the show with I’ll Stand by You. She did really well. Kris Allen was a guest too. I haven’t seen him since he won Idol.

I’m with you on this, MCL! I watched AGT once with David, but wasn’t that impressed. I started watching last year around TOP 10 and found it quite enjoyable. My favorite judge on the panel is Sharon. She is a role model to other women who want to judge talent reality shows!
I also think the judges on America’s Best Dance Crew are quite good! They know dance and make good recomendations.
I enjoyed all three top acts last year. Jackie certainly was a surprise and the Finale was really good. I may be the only one around here that isn’t that excited about X-Faxtor. I really don’t want to see Simon again.
Oh Louise, Pia was amazing! These two appearances on the Memorial Day tribute did more for Pia than 10 episodes of Idol. What an honor for her. I picked her to win the whole thing (with James runner-up and Scotty in third place). Kris was soooo good! What a sweetheart!

Grammie Karl, you’re not the only one. Ultimately, it may not keep me from watching X-Factor, mainly because if I don’t watch, I won’t be able to make comments here LOL. But he treated Siobhan (and others as well) horribly last season and that just was not right. Period.
