Miley Cyrus To Appear On American Idol Tonight

Make the pimping stop! We get it, American Idol. Lauren Alaina is the chosen one for Season 10 and we all knew this from Day One.

Yet, to drive home this fact, Miley Cyrus is set to guest mentor Lauren Alaina and only Lauren Alaina on this evening’s Top 6 show.

EOnline broke the scoop here. It’s quite the story, if you can all believe that there is a story here. It’s all part of the plan, everyone.

She is improving – I will grant her that. But, quite frankly so is everyone else.

How do y’all feel about American Idol’s role in the pimp process, for want of a better word? Does Lauren deserve to win this show? Who is voting for her?

  1. I’ve loved some of Lauren’s performances this season, but truth be told, she is not one of the standouts this season. So far, there are others more deserving to win than she. From my perspective, of the 6 left, Casey, James, and Haley have done the best.

  2. Yes, I agree Anita. Everyone I have spoken to seems to like either James, Scotty or Casey with a dash of Haley thrown in. Strange.

  3. There are a few obvious factors of which I feel are reasons why A.I. wants Lauren to win:

    1. Lauren is Country, and Carrie Underwood is Country, and of course is the most successful person to have been on A.I. Country Music is very popular, and I think they believe that Lauren will have great success as well.

    2. A.I. wants a female winner for a change soooooooo badly!!

    3. She’s only a teenager, and has a very strong “young” fanbase. I get the feeling A.I. believes the younger the contestants, the better.

    4. She certainly, of course, is a fantastic singer.

Can anyone think of any other reasons?

  4. Anita – those are all good reasons except, for the life of me, I don’t know why they would want a Carrie clone. Not too creative or ambitious on their part. Plus, there is Taylor Swift to contend with as well.

  5. Rosanne,

You are right!! Lauren will have her work cut out for her contending with the monster success of those two “Country Dixies”!! Ha! Ha! I think, though that the judges feel she could still be wildly successful, even if she doesn’t reach their success level. You never know, Laauren might give them both a run for their money! Lauren certainly can give Taylor a run for her money based on vocal talent. THAT’S FOR SURE!!!

  6. I have never known u 2 be so different ~ Rose All the years I’ve been here; you always had a positive attitude and say something good about all. What pimping? geez. man. Americans are the ones who votes and who in the heck cares if a female contestant does not get AI~! She is 16 years old!!! of course the judges are being kind with her. Golly, the judges *pimps* ALL OF THEM. Come on!!! Someone got to say, oh! oh too much of a cheerleaders! oh! they don’t ever say anything critical 2 help them 2 do better…Jimmy Lovine does that and is SUCCESSFUL. AI is not rigged; how about Blake? hello. How abt Hicks? what it rigged? AI DID NOT WANT HIM 2 WIN. We can have a better society if we are nicer 2 @ other…..the bulliness is getting out of hand nowadays…..everywhere! ppl kill themselves over negative comments about them. Please

  7. SurelyBSerious,

Yes, Jimmy Lovine has been awesome this season. He’s been a great asset to the American Idol Team!! Including him this season was a great move on Simon Fuller’s part! My question is, if they are expecting Jimmy to do all the work, why did they even bother having judges this season?

  8. I’m not getting the Lauren pimping at all, and she’s one of my least favorites. Without Simon (and I’m one of those grateful for his absence), seems to me the judges have been overly praising all the contestants, with the exception of Haley. (And no, I’m not a Haley fan either, even though I think she has a great voice).

Personally, I wish they’d crit the contestants on all fronts. Vocal ability, song choice, difficulty, performance skills, interpretation…etc., so the contestants understand where they’re most vulnerable (in the eyes of the voters).

Clearly, most Americans, myself included, aren’t buying music based on vocal superiority, we’re choosing it based on what we like to listen to, and what speaks to us. IMO song choice on AI is 50% of the battle, and why the bottom three become the bottom three.

Finally, it makes me nuts when the judges compliment the contestants on their physical beauty, as if that’s a talent, or a valid reason to overlook a sub-par vocal performance. I get that we’re a looks-based society, and that we’re particularly hard on women, I just wish these judges would avoid highlighting it.

  9. I guess I’m in the minority, as Lauren is and has been one of my favorites since the top 24, along with James and Haley. I admit her age does limit her performances, and there are certainly others who have more artistry and musicianship. But I don’t necessarily think it would be a bad think for her to win the whole thing. As the winner, she’d receive the input and advice that she needs in crafting an album. And as non-winners, the other finalists would have more artistic freedom to work on their own music. It’s similar to the Bo and Carrie finale. I really enjoy Bo’s voice and his artistry, but I didn’t want him to win because that could have limited him from making the type of music he wanted to make.

  10. There’s some feeling, at another message board, that the reason the results were done in a random order this evening is because the #4 and #5 spots were Haley and Lauren, respectively. Jordin Sparks has a gorgeous voice and gave a stellar performance of Shirley Bassey’s “I Who Have Nothing” on week 2 of AI 6 when she was 18 . I’m still waiting for a stellar performance from Lauren. I think she needs more coaching and experience.
