  6. These singers are excellent! Thanks for sharing, MCL! I was very pleasantly surprised. I love how their voices have the warmth but not the stridency that you hear in some opera. The result is both authentic and approachable. Beautiful!

Rosanne, do you ever have “Ah, this is opera” or “Ah, this is classical music” moments? I know I do. I love pop music, probably more than the next person, but when I hear well-done classical music, it hits the spot in such a unique way! I guess that’s why there’s no substitute for it. 😉

I love seeing young men this age taking opera seriously. Keeping this fine tradition alive. 😀

  8. The voices of these three teenagers are unbelievably amazing especially Gianluca who is actually the youngest in the group. I love opera and I really appreciate it so much that this has been posted here. Now I know that we have at least three young operatic singers to look up to since most of the truly great tenors are really aging.

Here is Gianluca singing with Charice a pop-like opera version of The Prayer… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QloUs0E2p38.

Let’s not confuse crossover (popera) with opera. These tenors are very talented, but singing songs and even arias into a microphone isn’t the same as singing in full operas without microphones, while acting, and acting with both their voice and their bodies. Maybe in future they will, for the moment what they are doing is classical crossover. They are really talented though, I really enjoyed their singing.

Elek — most of great tenors are not ageing, most people just don’t know about them because they sing in operas and don’t crossover just like most people wouldn’t have heard about Pavarotti had he not crossed over at the end of his career, while he was already famous in opera in the 70s. Ever heard Jonas Kaufmann, Piotr Beczala, Lawrence Browlee? Juan-Diego Florez? As to young tenors, check out Michael Fabiano. He won Met Council Auditions (which is the most prestigious opera competition in North America) at 22, and made debuts in leading roles at the Met and La Scala before 25. Also, David Lomeli. How about this young singer:
