David Cook’s Brother Adam Loses His Battle with Cancer.

American Idol Winner David Cook’s beloved brother, Adam Cook, lost his courageous battle with cancer. Early this morning, Adam Cook breathed his last breath, but, through it all showed tremendous strength and determination to circumvent the debilitating effects of this horrific disease.

I so enjoyed seeing his presence in the audience last year.  His smiling face and positive spirit certainly superceded anything that was happening on the stage. Adam Cook’ s presence was a reality check – one that reminded all of us that life is indeed precious and needs to be embraced and celebrated at every turn of the road.

This morning, David Cook released a statement about the passing of his brother.

He has asked people to honor the memory of his brother by donating  to the Race for Hope (through September 30, 2009). You may also decide to honor Adam’s memory by lighting a virtual candle – what a lovely idea, indeed!

For those of you who may have not seen this, I have added this video where David Cook addressed the Race for Hope crowd after the race.

Rest in Peace, Adam Cook. Our prayers and thoughts are sent to family and friends at this very diffcult time.

  1. I just came across this sad news while reading the Terre Haute newspaper online and came to tell you all. http://tinyurl.com/chofjx

It’s been a LONG struggle for the whole family (Adam’s parents/sibs and wife/kids) … I hope they will all have peace now.

  3. My heart goes out to the Cook family for the loss of Adam. My young nephew is also suffering from a brain tumor and doctors have given up any hope for a cure with this reoccurrence. It is incredibly sad.

  4. Yes, I was so crushed to hear about this today. I can’t really put down in words how awful it feels to watch someone you love struggle with cancer and fight so valiantly against it, only to end up losing the battle in the end. I can honestly say that I know what David Cook and his family are going through having lost my wonderful grandmother to cancer as well.

To Adam Cook’s dear family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. As hard as it may be losing a man who was so courageous and no doubt a wonderful father and husband, just know that he is now in the hands of the Father. Right now Adam is truly at peace. There are no more chemo treatments, radiation, or medication that wreaks havoc on his body. He is fully healed of his disease and feels more alive than he has ever felt. The struggle is over. The battle is won. Cancer may have destroyed his body, but his spirit remains as alive and vibrant as ever. I am sure right now he is looking down on his loved ones and waiting for the day they can all be together again. May God bless and protect all of you who still remain on this earth. I pray that the peace and hope of Christ fills you up and gives you what you need to get up and live your lives to the fullest in honor of the courageous man you loved so much.

  5. Oh, and Louise, I just read what you wrote about your nephew. I will truly keep him in my prayers. With God all things are possible, Louise. The doctors may not have much hope, but I have what I hope is some encouragement for you. Last year my mother was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. The doctors were (in their own words) 99% positive that the spots on her thyroid were malignant and possibly had spread to other parts of her body. However, we did not claim those bleak words. We prayed, we read the Bible, and we laid it all into God’s hands. Finally, after a lot of testing and a minor surgery, the baffled doctor reported that the spots were benign. My mother had no trace of cancer in her body. I thank God every day for being with us through that horrible time and bringing us through it.

A scripture that gave us a lot of peace during that time was Joshua 1:9. I hope maybe you and your nephew can find comfort in it as well. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified. Do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

God bless, and as I said, I will keep you in my prayers.

  7. Galen, your posts in this thread are truly inspiring. Thank you.

Louise, my prayers are with your nephew! Hope is never futile when you place it in One (and Galen has written about who that is). That is all I can say; I do not wish to overstep my boundaries. I know we are strangers, but my heart truly goes out to you and your family.

  8. Louise, prayers for your young nephew and family. Miracles do happen.

Galen, thank you so much for the scripture. I have a “Prayer Request” thread on a parenting forum. I will be using that scripture some time this week. Praise God for your Mother’s miracle!

I am very sad for David and his family. May God confort them during this time of need. Anthony Fedorov also lost his brother to cancer within a year of the Idol Tour. He was his only sibling.

  9. First of all, you are very welcome, Louise. I hope you were able to take away at least a little hope and encouragement from what I said.

J, thank you as well for your kind words. You are absolutely correct in what you said. When we lay it all into His hands, hope is NEVER lost.

  10. I just read your post, Kariann. Praise God indeed! And you are welcome for the scripture, but I don’t take credit for that. God definitely lead me to that scripture when I needed it the most, and I am just thankful that you could find peace in it as well.

I am also sorry to hear of Anthony losing his brother. I’ll keep him in prayers as well. After Carrie, he was always my favorite in Season 4.

  14. Thank you so much Galen, J, Kariann, and Masterclasslady for your kind words about my nephew’s illness. I know that he has a lot of faith and that anything is possible. He had been in remission for quite a few years–long enough to finish school, get a job, fall in love, and marry, but cancer returned in three places shortly after he was married. He had been undergoing three different kinds of chemo during the past year until very recently when the doctors stopped all of it. I know many of us have probably experienced horrible cancer deaths of loved ones so I won’t go into my experience with this. But from personal experience I understand what the Cooks have been going through and my heart definitely goes out to them.

  16. Many of you may have heard this already, but it is so appropriate for this thread. I rediscovered this song yesterday and it completely resonated with me. It is a lovely pre-Idol omposition from Scott MacIntyre!

This is called “No Fear”. He wrote it at age 14 or 15, I believe. Please comment if you want to!

MCL – I am particularly interested in your thoughts on this one! A few of Scott’s others are on YouTube as well. Maybe you could review those sometime too?

  18. Conni, the last address I can find for David is dated Sept 2008. I’m sure they would forward it, if it is no longer accurate:
    DAVID COOK
    C/O 19 Entertainment
8560 West Sunset Blvd, 9th Floor
    West Hollywood, CA 90069

    Also, in his obit http://tinyurl.com/ca6esp
the funeral home and it’s address is listed. I’m SURE you couldn’t go wrong sending a note there. The rest of the funeral home’s address is TERRE HAUTE IN 47807-3315
