Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

MCL, it is with bittersweet pangs in my heart that I post these links from Providence. The tour is coming to a close and within days David will be embarking on a new chapter in his career. I’ve just seen “Angels” for the 48th time this summer and I can barely type. It is that spectacular.

Oh Janey – first of all, shall I call in the medics for you? I can’t wait to see and hear these songs. I knew David would “go for broke” during the last few concerts of the tour. Go David! We are a mess here – we can’t keep up with you!
Will look at these in a bit – just have a few things to do and I want to give these videos my undivided attention.

Now, Janey has told me that all of these performances are absolutely incredible. It seems that little David is full of surprises, so let’s see what this talented guy has up his sleeve for the Providence performance of “Angels’.
Lots and lots of hysteria precedes David’s appearance, which only increases as the dry ice appears and the opening strains of this song begin. Goosebumps here!
This is a close video shot of David, although the bottom half of his mouth is not too visible, except when he raises his head.
And he sounds so wonderful, doesn’t he? Always alive with a song in his heart and the emotions on his sleeve! And I love the vocal pirouettes he inserts here and there -in the words “instead” and “call”
And the instrumental/vocal bridge is glorious – resplendent with wonderfully focused “oh” and “ah” vowels. His liberated soulful voice is so amazing. His voice wraps around the melody line with musical dexterity and confidence.
And as he moves into the last refrain, the tour-de-force continues as he applies two vocal pirouettes that bookend a mini-run on the word “call” (4:02 mark).
His voice sounds a little strained tonight, but, in David’s world a little strained still means an extraordinary and stellar performance.

Aww, yes, the dramatic change of mood as he walks up the stairs to begin this song. Woo – I loved the cutting hand motion when he sings the words “cut me down”. The beauty of a great video indeed. Thanks MJ!
Now, I don’t know if it’s the audio, but to me, David’s voice sounds a tad tired in this video. The passion is still there, but his upper notes sound less pure than in other performances.
But what a great shot of him during the “oh oh, it’s too late” hunkerdown segment. He sounds superb and, man, does he know how to internalize the emotional core of a song. Just exceptional!
And see how he always has one foot slightly ahead of the other? This is a perfect technical stance and it allows him to bend and/or move forward to walk with ease and comfort.
And as he begins his final rhythmically enhanced stroll to the front of center stage, I just sit back and watch a rising star in motion with a smile on my face.
And a great double vocal pirouette on the final “yeah”. Wow. He just brings you along with him and you hold your breath until the final note is vocalized.

What a great shot of his beautiful, smiling face. And he points and flirts and shake shands with the fans as he moves along in this song.
This song was programmed so well into his set, as it not only provides contrast to the first two numbers, but also allows David to have pure fun on that stage without worrying about challenging vocals – well, at least until the end of the song.
Love when the guitar player nods to David as he passes him. (1;14 mark) HAHA It’s as if he is saying, “Not you again, didn’t I see you last night and the night before and the night before etc.?”
And the “meet and greet” portion of this song breezes along in a rhythmically smooth fashion, with David’s genuine, soulful vocals leading the way.
Oooh -that sustained “daaaaahhhhhling” is so delicious, isn’t it?
And, now the fun part all you “beautiful girls”. He comes Salsa David! And he is pretty frisky tonight. Let’s see what he has in store for us with his ending!
Okay – that last “stand” was held for a very, very long time and then he moves flawlessly into the word “me” but sings a suspension on this word – vocalizing an upper note and then quickly resolving to the main note.
And those final “oos” are extremely well-focused and resonant in this performance.
Kudos and bravo David! A remarkable performance!

WOW JANEY those were all extraordinary videos!! And what a screamin’ crowd…those poor lovesick girls. 😉
WYSYLM….the crowd hysterics are in full-swing and David can barely get the song started…but with the blink of an eye, he is in the ZONE!
As usual, such beautiful “aliiiiive”‘s and “flyyyyyyy”. I just love his sustained notes….so pure and powerful, followed by that subtle crescendo and eventual lovely vibrato. Perfect!
Notice at 2:34, David has no choice but to give a little smile and wave in response to the “I LOVE YOU DAVVVVVIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDD”…I’m sure he had to do that in order for her to pipe down…haha.
Oh, and nice touches to the final phrase…nice little melodic change at the end.

What a great video – once again! And David looks wonderful and happy, just enjoying himself so much and the crowd is near hysteria now. They are ecstatic to hear him for one last time.
As he begins this song, David’s face just glows with love and appreciation.
And he sounds so spectacular and every word in this song means so much to him. He emphasizes the right words in the right places and communicates his feelings with vocal expressivity and dexterity.
And that first “fly” – just so delicious. It pierces the very center of my heart. He is so darn musical and sensitive – it is truly a joy to behold.
Beautiful vocal pirouettes when he sings “time” and “words”. He is totally immersed in the music and wearing his heart on his sleeve.
This video is truly beautiful – it captures everything that we love about David. This song is truly a spiritual journey for David and, most certainly, for all of us. And then he embraces us with those heartfelt ooos at the end of the song.
Passionate love (during the forte passages) versus heartfelt love( as we hear, both at the beginning and the end of this song) – David gives us every level of love he can emit through his vocal presence.
And that last “you” – he adds a few extra notes, to tell us that he really means everything he has just conveyed to us. Beautiful, just beautiful. A transcendent performance like no other.

Hmmmm Jason’s voice sounds hoarse during the introduction. He just can’t seem to shake this cold, can he? He was wise to initiate a faster tempo for this song. It just flows more easily and certainly assists him with his breathing.
Boy the fans do love their Jason don’t they? And, as much as his technique is not as refined as I would like it to be, this faster pace is certainly more lilting and more appropriate for this particular interpretation of this song.
A good solid performance by Jason, but I wish he would keep that mouth round – I. wish.! He would add more depth and resonance to his overall vocal timbre and relieve some of the undue stress he places on his vocal cords.

Huh? At first it sounded like Jason was singing this song a cappella. I could barely hear the accompaniment.
Boy, he is really suffering from this cold. isn’t he? Poor guy. It’s almost bordering on laryngitis. And he is stretching his mouth and tightening his neck muscles like “crazy”. Yikes! How is he supposed to sing tonight? He should be on vocal rest.
But, still, all in all, he performed this song to the very, very best of his ability, given his health circumstances and you have to give him kudos for this. Bravo Jason! Bravo!

Thank heavens for this song – he can finally relax. Look at his animated and joyful face – doesn’t it make you melt? He is having a great time, nonetheless and the song sounds fantastic.
And the crowd better applaud with ferocity and fever – he deserves credit for just walking out onto that stage and acting like the consummate professional that he is, given his horrendous cold virus. Kudos, my Jason!

MCL,After this morning’s “medical emergency” and subsequent recovery I found myself with this question. Suppose David had been a student of yours in the early months of this year. In your professional opinion, might there have been any indication to you at that time that David would be able to achieve the magnificent level of vocal and performance skills we have come to witness and enjoy?
