Today is Oscar Sunday everyone. Like you didn’t know. Like you have been living under a rock for the past week! Ha!
Watching the telecast of the Academy Awards has been a family tradition from as far back as I can remember. It was a HUGE deal in our house and it still is!
Last year’s show was fantastic, due in part to the shenanigans of host, Ellen DeGeneres. . Remember the Pizza Boy and Selfie moments? Pure Ellen.
And, it seemed to me, that the show was getting back to the traditional “feel” of the Oscars, featuring tons of live performances and surprises. It was a creative bonanza last year and I expect the same this year.
Why? Three words: Neil Patrick Harris. A multi-faceted performer, Neil has hosted the Tony Awards 4 times to much acclaim, for which he won several special class Emmy Awards. And he twice served as a very successful and entertaining host of the Emmy Awards.
Therefore, suffice it to say, this talented artist is very much in demand as a host and can spin an awards show into a multi-genre event. He is an exciting and engaging performer. I am sure we are in for a great night of laughs and surprises with Neil at the helm.
Overt at the 87th Academy Awards Wikipedia Page, there is wealth of information on what to expect at Sunday’s event, including a list of the Presenters, Performers and Nominees.
So, sit back and relax with your bowl of popcorn and let’s go to the movies.
Comments are now open for movie business.
Rosanne-I think the Oscars is the best awards show on TV, period! I love to watch, but it’s hard to get myself to sit down and watch over 3 hours of it. That’s really neat that it’s such a tradition in your house. It’s funny, every year, come Oscar time, I think of you MCL!!

I love Jennifer Hudson, but I thought the choir was too loud to hear her well tonight.
And Gaga was spectacular with The Sound of Music medley. Also LOVED John Legend’s performance.

My goodness, Lady Gaga has had vocal training! I wonder why she’s been pretending otherwise?

Because her artsy and quirky way sold records. Now she can be true to herself!!

Yes, I had trouble hearing Jennifer as well, Louise. Nice performance but poor mix.

I just read an article about the Oscars, and they mentioned the bad sound mix for Jennifer’s song. Really too bad because she can be wonderful!

whenever i see jennifer at these shows (and there are A LOT), i think about simon cowell telling her she sounds like a cruise ship singer and that she should stick with that. he has apologized but it doesn’t keep me from thinking about it. 🙂
her popularity and visibility is perhaps greater than any of the other idols i think.

i had seen that movie that adam levine was in and had really liked that song in the movie. i didn’t even realize it was nominated, that was a big surprise. the sound quality last night wasn’t the best for him either, the instruments were louder than he was.
i wasn’t impressed with his wife giving the thumbs up, tongue out, twice. the first time, after he sang it was kind of cute, the second time i thought ‘she’s acting like a kid’ (maybe a spoiled kid looking for attention)?

I missed Adam’s performance, so I can’t comment on the sound or his wife.

Wow! Lady Gaga!!! I think she was overwhelmed and a little unsure of the audiences response to her! She was truly amazing! But, I think Tony Bennett already knows that, and is why the two are friends! I have become a fan!!!

I had decided that I was not going to watch – I really wanted to go to bed early. Ha ha ha. 11PM rolled around & I gave in, which was excellent timing because right after I started watching Lady Gaga started singing. In a word…AMAZING!! I have always known that she has a beautiful voice but this was better than I had ever heard her. The only note that was a little less than stellar was the very last note & my singing teacher & I think that it was a bit too high for her (and after all that beautiful singing she may have been a little tired). But I think Julie Andrews (who looked utterly fabulous) was very touched. Thank you, Julie and thank you, Lady Gaga. It was really a treat. Plus Eddie Redmayne won!! If you have not seen his performance in “The Theory of Everything” you must.

Julie Andrews was indeed touched, according to Billboard: http://www.billboard.com/articles/events/oscars/6480362/julie-andrews-lady-gaga-sound-of-music-response?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_term=daily_digest&utm_campaign=Daily%20Digest
