Aaaaaaaaaand, we’re off!!
Yes – January can only mean one thing to Idol diehards and that is the debut of a new season of American Idol.
What will this season bring us? Well, hopefully, singers with charisma, talent, professionalism and poise, elements that were sorely missing during Season XIII. I am still recovering from that mess of a season – so much so that, at one point in the season, I basically stopped critiquing one contestant and, later, pulled down the Vocal Masterclass Article curtain on the remainder of the show.
Yes – it was that bad!
However, 2015 is a New Year and, for whatever reason, I love the “ring” of those numbers. I don’t know why – I just do.
There are spoilers aplenty all over the Internet but, quite honestly, I would rather approach this season with an open mind. Heaven knows there will be enough “creative editing” by the producers to lend focus to their favorites as the show progresses.
The BIG NEWS here is that American Idol has finally returned to the Top 24 format. This is huge. I have been ranting and raving for three years to reinstate this semi-final format so I am assuming this will be the plan with these singers. As the saying goes: “All things come to those who wait“.
This season’s premiere airs on Wednesday, January 7th and Thursday, January 8th at 8:00 PM on Fox.
Okay Idol fans – what are your thoughts about this season? Are you excited? Have you spotted any favorites yet? Let’s get this party started.
The two things that I’m most interested in this season are seeing how invested is Scott Borchetta is in the whole process and how they are going to handle having just one live show a week.

Yes Laura this should be interesting to see. Hopefully, he will make a difference. One live show a week is problematic for me, however. I loved the 30 minute Results Show. However, it probably isn’t feasible for the Fox programming format.

The buzz is that they’ve made a great many changes to the format, so I’m interested to see what they’ve changed and if they’ve changed the right things!

Let’s hope the changes are a good thing. Every year we have been waiting for good results. Perhaps this is the year!!!

Liked Riley, Michael and Emily . So far some good talent. Current and marketable. Hopefully they keep out the buffoons that America will vote for in mass. :p

Oh and the Opening Number of Feeling Good was fantastic.

Aubrey – yes. That was a smart idea. Really clever. Makes you want to match the shadows with the faces with the voices. It’s fun.

If I were Michael Simeon, I would request a poster sized color glossy of me dancing with Mz. Lo and her terrific stems, post it on my dorm room wall and declare myself the winner! He would have the support of all college age males. His take on Sam Smith was decent as well.
Actually Emily Brooke was my favorite tonight. She has several key ingredients for a successful Idol run. She had a nice voice with decent range and was able to pull off a Carrie Underwood cover while putting her own spin on it. She has shown determination in achieving her goals and is willing to put in the work to achieve them. From this brief preview it appears that she may have the talent to go with it.

I agree that Emily Brooke probably has the most potential. The only thing that worries me about her is that 15 is so young.
A lot of reviewers are saying that tomorrow is the better night so I’m looking forward to that!

I loved Emily as well but we still have a ways to go. Tonight should be excellent. I am happy with what I have seen thus far. The opening segment of the Top24 in the shadows was brilliant!! Kudos to whoever came up with this idea.

I liked a lot of things about the premier of Idol 14; the opening number, much fewer tears and making fun of those who really didn’t stand a chance (brutal and unnecessary for the most part), Emily Brooke and Michael Simeon! I could use a little more Ryan Seacrest however, lol. Looking forward to tonight!
