This is interesting. But I think there are also times when the singers have decided to ignore Jimmy’s advice & it has turned out to be a good thing for the singer. Is it possible that Jimmy thinks he’s doing the right thing for the singers? But given the “power” that Jimmy apparently has in regard to song choice, the judges should not criticize the singers if they don’t like the song choice. For Jacob to blame Jimmy for the elimination is a little presumptuous. Most people that have followed Idol this year knew that Jacob’s time had come. In my opinion, it’s remarkable that he made it to 5th place.

I am not surprised at all. AI, in desperate moves and changes to make it relevant, have almost totally scripted this show. Ever since Adam Lambert was on there and showed everyone how to “perform” a song instead of just sing it, AI has been trying to provide more guidance. But instead of taking the contestants ideas and figuring out how to make them work, they seem to be micromanaging them. And the judges are no help. Everything is “beautiful” and “the best we’ve had on this stage”. 😦

I’m actually not surprised by this at all. As a matter of fact, I mentioned in my post after the show that I felt Jimmy tried to sabotage both Haley and Jacob. Of course, both could have refused his suggestion as James and Casey did on an earlier show. But I have had the impression that Jimmy wanted Lauren to be the last girl standing, and since Haley has been picking up votes, I felt he gave Haley the unknown song so that it would not appeal so much to the voters. And he had to know that Jacob singing both parts of the duet would be a trainwreck! It was my impression that Jimmy knew it was time for Jacob to leave and wanted to make sure that he did.
Unfortunately, Jacob has a huge ego–that was clear to me when he wouldn’t stop singing last night, and when he made the comment that America loves him. Jacob has a nice voice, but he didn’t have the total package and I don’t think he’s as good as he thinks he is.

I was unable to watch this week’s show or the results show, so I’m not sure what was said. But given the past comments by Jimmy, and the way AI has been operating this year, I’m not surprised at all…if this is indeed true. However to blame Jimmy for his elimination is not right. As Darlene said, Jacob’s time was bound to come and I agree with her, I was surprised too that he made it to 5th place. In my opinion, he should have been gone a long time ago.

I am not surprised at all. I felt from the beginning that having a permanent mentor could lead to favoritism even before we met Jimmy Iovine. Stefano had no intentions of singing”Hello”. Idol told him the day before that his song choice was not cleared and they suggested he do “Hello”. He felt the song wasn’t a good fit for him but had no choice at that point.
This trickery has been going on for years and years. It happened to Siobhan last year. Same circumstances as Stefano.
James is a bit full of himself with America loves him. Obviously, he had enough fans to get him to the TOP 5. Did he really think he could garner more votes than the other four regardless of his song choice?
James is young, but someone has to set him straight or he will have problems for the rest of his life. He needs to learn humbleness. I still believe he will end up on Broadway, but he needs to work on his presentation.

Hi, Kariann,
In your message above, I think you meant to say Jacob is a bit full of himself and also Jacob is young . . . instead of James.
I really agree with your comments.
I also found your comments about Stefano not wanting to sing “Hello” to be revealing. I have always had the sense that Idol people–either judges, Jimmy, or TPTB–try to manipulate the contestants.
I can’t wait to read your link to the story about Stefano. I miss him.

Oh, Grammie Kari, that story of Stefano and Emma just warmed my heart. He really is such a sweet guy. I miss him so much. I really wish he did better on the show. I am so glad and relived that he has such dedicated fans like Emma, and I hope they help and support his career in the future.

Oh, Louise! I am so happy you can read my mind! I wish there was an EDIT button here. That was a major typo. I notice the HTML doesn’t work like it did a few weeks ago.
I want James to win!
Yes, there is manipulation going on. Jimmy will try to sabotage someone! Haley did not want to do that unknown Lady Gaga song. As it turns out, she got the last spot on the show, talked with Lady Gaga, and will have an advantage this week because Lady Gaga is mentoring. I do think they want a GIRL/GUY FINAL.
Kes, I started off really liking Pia, James, and Stefano. My votes went to Stefano because I wanted him on the tour and he needed them. However, I liike James as the winner or runner-up. Getting into the Final will mean so much to a lot of children and their parents.
I tried to find the price of that guitar and it is somewhere between $2,100 – $5,200. Kes, be prepared to see Stefano involved in some way with Hip Hop and Rap.

Dear Grammie Kari,
My preferences for the finale are:
James (sentimental and for the reasons you stated) and
Haley (I love an underdog who keeps getting better);
However, I think that Scotty will be in the finale because he has that warm pleasant personality and HAS been improving.
I think that Lauren would be happier if she could relax and get ready for the tour – I don’t think that she would miss the parade and hoopla at the end.
