About Masterclass Lady
Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

As your readers are aware, I’ve never sent you PDSTM. I thought this one was worthy of review because of the exceptional video quality and since the tour is ending I thought we should have one for the books. The interaction between the Davids makes this one a keeper.

ArchieFandoc, you cracked me up with your comment about Mr.-Tone-Deaf…I have one of those too, who just looks at me and shakes his head at times. I guess enlightenment eludes him….haha!

I actually watched this last night and what a thrill it was to see him perform this song again. What immediately struck me, though, was how utterly relaxed he looked at the beginning of this song -more than I have ever seen him look on previous occasions.
You will notice it at the 1:06 mark when the camera focuses on the large screen, David is looking off to his left, as if something is distracting him and then turns his head to face us a couple of seconds after- when he moves into the refrain.
And look at his eyes! So open and expressive. Did he always do this? Darn, now I have to watch some previous videos to see if this is new to his performance – not that will be an unpleasurable ordeal in my life. Quite the opposite. Can’t get enough of my David.
I am accustomed to seeing his eyes closed, so I guess he decided he wants to look around since this is his second last performance. Take everything in!
His voice is truly transcendent – soooooo gorgeous and luscious.
Love the vocal acrobatics on the word “street”. And listen to the swell and build in the dynamic level of this song when he moves into the 2nd refrain. The nuances he employs through this song are so sensitive and so musical and his phrasing is impeccable.
And, as he moves into the “oh ya” segement of this song, his voice just soars through those round vowels as he lingers and caresses the notes with exquisite vocal finesse.
Now, he is singing that last powerful refrain and moving toward his big vocal surprise of this evening’s performance- the “it MAY take me” (3.41 mark for those of you who can’t wait) – where he hits a newly unveiled upper note on the word “may”. Isn’t he something else?
Remember when he had trouble with the “it” word in this section and then lowered the note for a few concerts and then brought it back up again after he worked it out during his private time?
Well, I guess he decided to take it up a notch and move “may” even higher. Two of the nastiest vowels for singers to manage – “i” and “eh” and he performs them both in a row. Unbelievable!
Oh my – I love this kid! And his last “I’m loving angels instead” was as good as it gets. Pure brilliance. And that body language before and after he sings this line lends an additional element of power and momentum. Bravo Archuleta Artistry.

What else can I say about David’s phenomenal performance of this song that hasn’t already been said.
Well, let’s see. I love how he minimizes the “r” consonant when he vocalizes “words” and “hearts” – he is such a refined artist in so, so many ways. And yet so relaxed and liberated with his vocal style! Extremely soulful and heartfelt.
And listen to that first “fly” – so wonderfully focused and resonant. He truly embraces his notes, doesn’t he.? Like he could hold on to them forever! And that’s key right there. He doesn’t worry about hitting those notes, or running out of air, our obsess over whether the tonality is correct or not. He just does it and it all falls into place.
We cannot underestimate the power of his technical skills – they are tantamount to his vocal success. However, in the end, his artistry and spiritual connection to the music is the reason why he can trust his voice to carry the message to his audience. It all boils down to faith and trust in the power of positive thinking and faith and trust in the most spiritual sense of the word.
And when did those “ooos” toward the end of his song become such a highpoint of this number? Such a contrast to the passionate forte vocals that he just completed! He truly captures every facet of love when he sings this song. Those “oooos” could sooth a little baby to sleep or console a despondent human being. So real and so true. Just like our David.
