I so desperately want to hear the last bits of this song.. but the screams go off the charts when he starts in with ‘stand’

I dont know if my other post went through or not(need approving?) but I posted 2 10 minutes vids of his whole set. Werent the best audio or video, but it gave a grasp on the audience tonight. I have no idea what they are feeding those people in sacramento! LOL

  4. Frogcooke – thanks so much once again. I can’t wait to hear these songs and it sounds like the fans were crazy nuts over Archie. Go Sacramento!

  5. I’ve heard that the crowd response was tremendous for both of the Davids — which makes me happy. Both of them deserve to have their efforts applauded and I’m growing VERY weary of the comparisons. Surely there is room for both Davids in the music world. And wouldn’t it be great if this was the year that winner and runner-up both launched tremendous careers? (I think this is the year!)

I watched the two 10 minute segments — thanks to Frogcooke. Wow. If I could choose to hop back in time and attend any previous tour concert, I’d go to Vegas. They seemed the most able to show their enthusiasm mostly BETWEEN songs, rather than during.

  7. Hi Everyone,

Haven’t been spending much time in here lately, busy place and I love the new format MCL. I’m so happy for our little David and all the other Idols. He seems to be growing with each performance and I love his moves on SBM. I cannot wait to see the live show, little over 2 weeks to go…. While I was surfing the tube for Idol performances I ran across videos from a little 15 year old Filipino singer, her name is Charice Pempengco, take a look and you’ll be astounded. One of ScubaJoe12’s
links was posted here and that’s ultimately how I ran across this girl.

MCL..Are you going to have an opportunity to meet the Idols at the live concert in Toronto?…I sure hope so and that they’re
aware of you and appreciate all your efforts here and elsewhere. Thanks again for everything.

  8. Hi again AuntAudie:

Thanks for stopping by! I hope to have the opportunity to meet the Idols in Toronto, but, their itinerary may be too packed. I can understand that there is only so much time they can spend with their fans – this is an exhausting tour and they are not superhuman! They need rest and down time, just like the rest of us! haha

Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the live concert very much. and, I hope that my commentary has proved beneficial to the singers. I like to think that the readers, as well, enjoy the articles – it gives them a clearer picture of the subtle nuances that create memorable performances.

I appreciate your kind comments. Thank you

  9. MCL…I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that you’ll have the opportunity, if I were them I’d beat down your door to find you!! I’m seeing them the night after you do and I’m on the fence about seeking them out, if there will be a meet and greet here, I’m trying to imagine a 61 year old woman standing amongst a throng of screaming young girls. I’m embarassed just thinking about it not to mention that my 37 year old daughter attending the concert with me will probably think I’ve finally gone over the edge. It’s all too funny, anything for our little David. Will you be posting your comments the day after you see the concert or will it be later after you’ve arrived back home? Can’t wait to hear what you think. Thanks MCL.

  10. I probably won’t have a chance to post my comments until a day or 2 after the concert. We are driving home the next day – 8 hour drive, so I may post a quick blog topic – sort of a teaser – on Sunday evening. (July 28th). Then the FULL version on Monday, July 29th.

I am as excited as you, I truly am. My daughters are real Idol fans – my oldest one, though, is a diehard fan.

She’s the one that organized this trip – so it’s going to be a family affair. And my 2 and a half year old granddaughter is coming along for the ride. I think she knows all the songs by now! My poor husband is the chauffeur! So much fun!

    Over The Rainbow

Wow – major screaming. Good for Jason, but bad for me. It’s hard to hear him, although his the lower register sounds quite resonant. Actually, the camera angle is providing the listener with a better listen to his vocals and that head tone just kicked in beautifully.

I would really like to see him work on improving the phrasing elements in this song – the song is still a little choppy and I would like a more cohesive approach to this song. But he sings it with the relaxed vibe that has made him a truly special artist to watch throughout this Season 8.

    Crazy

As I said before, this song is perfect for Jason’s style and he sings this song with an improved vocal energy and focus. Surprisingly, the crowd is extremely quiet when he performs, probably because his voice is projected with noticeable improvement.

    Daydream

Once again, his lower vocals sound really good in this video – even though the audio is not the best. The camera angle makes a huge difference – it helps if the videographer is sitting central to the stage. This person was and, even though the audio quality was not the best, Jason’s true vocals projected very well I thought.

Just a thought -during the instrumental section, he should encourage the audience to sing the words at that point. It would allow him to establish a greater intimacy with the crowd and it would add variety to the song.

    Good work Jason.

    Angels

Call in the medics! The crowd is insane! And the person working the camera is convulsing with excitement. LOL. He adds some subtle changes to the melodic line, bending the phrase lines in his intelligent, creative style.

His “ya ya ya” part is spectacular, so vocally secure. But, truly, this is the noisiest crowd ever. Love the ascending run at the end – gets me every time. Oh dear, the camera person or someone near her is squealing to beat the band. She is definitely a soprano! haha

You go David. You need to record this cover – it would sell better than the original. Gorgeous, gorgeous head tone. I hope and pray that this element in your voice will remain a constant in your career. It is THE BOMB!

Plus, David added some nice ornamentation throughout this song, especially in the upper “too late” sections.

I love watching him talk to the crowd after this performance. Such a genuine, humble performer.

    Stand By Me

He walks with ease and confidence along the perimeter of the stage, successfully connecting and exciting his dedicated throng of fans.

I love his ornamentation in this song as well. He is so confident in his interpretive skills – the runs just flow from his musical soul with skillful ease. It looks totally effortless, but, trust me, he is working up there. The key, though, is to make it “appear” effortless”; David’s technical proficiency, musical intelligence and natural soulful style allows him to transcend to these heights.

Strong, inspiring ending as always! Very memorable indeed. It takes a very very very very long time for the applause to die down. He is overwhelmed. He says “I don’t think I’ve ever heard the crowd this loud before.” hahah I love this kid!

When You Say You Love Me

As he introduces the song, the fans scream, “We Love You David” and he sweetly reciprocates the statement.

And – of course – this song is everything it was, should be and will continue to be because of David’s vocal talent. The expressive elements in his voice are stellar – the stuff of greatness. This cannot be taught – it just “is”. Outstanding vocals and superlative artistry. Bravo David.

  22. Kristy lee Cook is the best overall when it comes to performance, putting on a show and she looks and sounds fantastic. David cook to loud for my taste though fans loved him. Seyesha should use her voice and not her body, she has a great one (ok obth are great), buy her voice is what got her here. Chekeeze was great, Arch great, needs to improve on speaking, brook and Dreads need to move around a little and overall a great experience. I do se why Kristy is signed.

I totally agree about Kristy Lee – she has an outstanding voice and stage presence and I am sure her CD is going to sell extremely well.

She always appears so confident and relaxed on stage. It’s a shame that, just as I was growing to love her more and more during the competition, she was eliminated.

Thankfully, Idol is only the beginning for her – and for many of the other singers. So many strong careers have been launched this season.

When Syesha was doing songs to showcase her voice on the show people kept trying to compare her to Whitney Houston… and then when she would do upbeat numbers they kept going on and on about how she would only be good on broadway. So she was in a loose loose situation. Syesha is a singer and songwriter first and foremost.

While I will give credit to Kris’ last song of the evening which was perfect, everything else from him and the others were mediocre at best. When Adam hit the stage the audience was electrified; his vocals were great, his song selections diverse (and spotlighted his range), his energy was palpable. He is the ONLY Idol who can headline his own concerts and, if his handlers do this right, he’ll be an international star, ala MJ. Cougars for Adam!!!
