Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

I thought the crossbow guy was pretty good. I haven’t completely caught up to the present yet – I’m 3/4 of the way through San Francisco. The painting guy was pretty good too. But you’re right, no one like Eugene Laudau Murphy Jr. or ILuminate yet. I definitely like Howard Stern. For a guy that I really didn’t have much, I think he’s demonstrated some real class so far.
And please please please….no more “Nessun Dorma”. There are other arias out there just waiting to be sung. Paul Potts already did it. That should have been enough.

Darlene – enough with Nessun Dorma. I totally agree with you. Most of the time that I have heard it performed on any of these shows, it is not a good experience. One of the hardest – if not the hardest – arias in the Tenor Songbook and everyone tries to scream out the aria. Horrible.
Still waiting for my Landau moment. That was truly special. I hope he is doing well. I should really blog about him more often.

This show is so disappointing this year. The talent is light years behind the talent from the last two years. What is going on? The best acts would be the worst acts in previous seasons. It’s as if Piers Morgan took the best talent with him when he left the show.

I have popped in and out of the show. There have been a few good acts but nothing to get overly excited about. Howard is a great addition to the show and with Piers Morgan gone, the aura of the show has improved. I will probably watch when just the good talent is featured.
I cannot believe NBC will have yet another singing show called, “The Winner Is.” They had a wonderful show with, “The Sing-Off” and they cancelled it. I hope American Idol hires one of their judges. What a great panel they were!

We went ahead and sent Shari’s video in to the youtube America’s Got Talent site, might as well. I have watched it this year and you are right the talent is weak thus far.

Kari Ann – NBC is starting yet another singing competition? Are they insane? They should have just fine-tuned “The Sing-Off”! Honestly! More money than brains!

I don’t think you can say “hardest”. It’s not as difficult as for example Di Quella Pira – you’d never hear it sung on a tv talent show. I am not even talking about Ah mes amis with its 9 high Cs or Credeasi misera or other bel canto arias, but then not all tenors specialize in bel canto. At least when it comes to Nessun Dorma popera singers can hit the notes. Mostly. Also, there is a difference between singing Nessun Dorma in concert, especially ampliied concert but even an unamplified one and singing Calaf.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard an opera aria performed on these shows that was a good experience. There were one or two people with potential, but in a genre when less than 1% of voice graduates with both talent and training even manage to make a living, potential only matters in someone under 30 at most. Otherwise, it’s like looking at a wannabe 20-something dancer with little or no ballet training attempting the Dying Swan or Kitri variations and calling herself a “ballet dancer” ;
I think the only decent attempt at Nessun Dorma I heard was from some guy in a Scandinavian country, I don’t remember the details, but he sounded like he had a real operatic voice. Donald Braswell had an excellent voice and training, but I am not sure how well he sing arias after his accident – I heard powers-that-be didn’t allow him to sing arias on the show. His early opera videos from the time before his accident are very impressive.
Now if they got an amater attempting Der Hölle Rache, that at least might be entertaining.
Seriously, with all those singing competitions and the success of so-called “opera” singers on talent shows, maybe they should televise a real opera competition. BBC televises Cardiff Singer of the World. Or they could have a tv competition with young opera singers and judges who know something about opera for a change. They could also show training, preparation, what goes into singing an aria or performing in an opera. I think Canada had something like this called “Bathroom Divas” – not sure if it was any good. That would at least be something different from all those singing shows.
