Vocal Masterclass Discussion For American Idol Season 10 Nashville Auditions

American Idol Season 10 Nashville Auditions

American Idol Season 10 Nashville Auditions

Last night’s show was pretty special. Once again, we saw evidence of some pretty exciting talent for this year’s season of American Idol.

I also enjoyed the heightened confidence and professionalism displayed by Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.

The highlight for me is when they told Randy to be quiet after he addressed a singer’s audition as a “joke”. Loved this moment so much!

I guess the anti-bullying message perpetrated via Ellen DeGeneres is finally taking root and planting its seed on the American Idol terrain. And it’s about time!

Also, I am sure that all the viewers were touched by the moving story of 26-year-old Chris Medina. It’s as if time stood still, very still.

When his lovely fiancée was finally introduced to the judging panel, it was the most inspiring moment I have ever witnessed on this show. The judges were quickly given a reality check. In fact, we all were.  I was touched by the loving manner in which they interacted with Chris’ fiancee. It was very moving.

Love can surmount tragedy,as witnessed by Chris’ devotion to his fiancée.  But oh what a journey this young man has endured after the tragic accident of his fiancée. It was a reminder of  how quickly all our lives can change with the drop of a hat.

I am sure we all wish this young man and his fiancée our heartfelt prayers as they look toward the future. So much research needs to be done to rectify these horrendous neurological diseases. We can only hope and pray!

Enjoy the Nashville show tonight. Somehow, in the wake of Chris Medina’s story, it all seems so unimportant. But we need good music in our lives. It soothes the soul and makes us smile during the most difficult of circumstances.

I was also very enlightened by the attitude of the show! Kinder, gentler but still fun. You did bring up an excellent point about bullying ~ I hadn’t really thought of it and I am guessing is that I had been desenstalized and that is the wake up call because of all our heightened bully of today. I am really really very happy with this panel and don’t miss Simon…how in the world we let him continue that long? and not only that, but Tyler and J-Lo really gets into the music and knows what they are talking about! Instead of turning my head when they are being bullying all these years, I am actually enjoying watching it. Oh my gosh………there are stories that cracks your heart.. It is odd though because I know it was taped some time ago and with the tragedy of that dark Saturday in Phoenix thus the message to become more civil seems to ring an universal bell.

I agree MCL, I think this emotional moment was necessary. She is a part of his family; a part of his life story. If seeing Juliana brings in some extra donations for her care, then I am fine with this first meeting. Julianna’s father appreciates all Chris has done to help with her care. Her treatments are very expensive, so if people want to help, they can go to:

He is a young man with a nice voice. If he has what it takes to be there, he’ll be in the TOP 40 or the TOP 20. I think the Idol judges handled the situation wisely, and now we are aware of Juliana’s condition. It is heartbreaking that good care is so expensive. Anyone wanting more information can go to:

I went back and watched it again. This time I did cry. I think it is because I read the link. Yep, I did cry tonight. I also paid better attention to Chris. There is so much potential with his voice. He did mess up his falsetto a bit. I think he is a better singer than Andrew G. He has a rich tone and could get better. I am going to send a small donation to the foundation. Prayers go out to this young lady.

It is so nice to enjoy this show and not worry about some off the wall comment Simon is going to make.

I have heard that Pia Toscano has a lovely voice. I can’t wait until they get to Hollywood!

Yes GrammieKari – I hope that Juliana’s story will raise awareness for her care. I am going to check out the link as well and send a small donation. I can still see her and it breaks my heart. Tears it apart.

Thanks for adding the link. Very much appreciated.

Hi Rosanne. I am not yet watching Idol but I will join the show again at some later time. I am just a bit too busy right now. I am still taking my singing lessons twice a week. I am so encouraged to hear of the more positive attitude from the judges. It takes so much courage to put yourself out & stand up in front of a panel of judges & an audience!! And positive feedback can make such a big difference. As you know, I am convinced that the relentless negativity heaped upon Siobhan Magnus last season did shake her confidence in herself. I think she is doing what she loves at this point but I hope that a CD is in the works. I am looking forward to joining the show but in the meantime, thanks for your comprehensive & thoughtful reviews of the singer. Also, being a Jersey native :), I am rooting for the wonderfully named Travis Orlando. With a name like that, how can he help but be a star?

I’m very glad that you mentioned the bullying that used to occur on this show. The contrast with the current judges and the previous judges is remarkable. It makes the previous judges–including Paula–seem so immature.

Steve Tyler especially impressed me with the tender way he spoke to Chris Medina’s fiancee.

It is a real pleasure to watch AI now.

    Grammie Kari,
Thanks for the link to the site for help with Juliana’s care. I’m on board as well. As sad as their story was it was uplifting in the end when she told Chris she knew he would get a gold ticket and as they left the audition, she was holding it up over her head.

    Darlene,
I agree with you about Siobhan. I think they intentionally ran her off because she threatened the designated winner. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem to be getting much traction in show biz. I read at her fan site that she had spent a few days recently in Nashville co-writing songs with a few Nashville based writers. She continues to perform locally with her pre Idol band Lunar Valve and I have seen a few poorly made videos of her performing with them and her Dad’s band. I’m afraid her 15 minutes will be up soon, but I’m still hoping for big things from her. I think she should go to Canada a polish her voice to perfection under the direction of the Masterclass Lady during this dry spell.

Hi Gene. I’m still optimistic for Siobhan. Sometimes it just takes time. But voice lessons wouldn’t hurt. And Canada is a wonderful place :). I am encouraged that Siobhan now has an official website. Have you seen it? It’s a work in progress but here’s the URL:

It’s nice to hear about good things happening on Idol! I will be following MasterClassLady’s analyses with great interest.

I have been to her site, but thanks anyway for the link. Self promotion may be the wave of the future. Maybe she will do some creative things with her site.
I also read that Allison Iraheta’s (whom I think you’re a fan of as well?) record deal has ended. That may be a mixed blessing. The pop shoes didn’t fit her too well.

It is shaping up to be a good Idol season. Good to see you back.

Hi Darlene and Gene! I post every day with the BonBons at her American Idol website. I have registered at her official website, but fan discussion is elsewhere. (Siofans.com)

There is no doubt in my mind that Simon and Kara squashed her spirit. I really do believe she threatened those that THEY wanted to win. At the time, I didn’t think of the bullying, but that’s exactly what they did. They did the same thing to Allison. One of my last images of Simon was his thought about Siobhan’s leaves on her shoulder. They were butterflies, of course. I wanted Kara to see Siobhan in concert so she could she WHO SHE IS!

I have commented that Siobhan should be concerned about her solo career and not worry about Lunar Valve. However, it seems like she wants to go with them. I had hoped Tony (her manager) would have had her “out there” singing and doing charity work outside her state. This is one talented young lady, but they need to give her more exposure before the new group catches on. I do see her eventually in musical theater. (Allison and Katie are taking acting lessons.)

I do NOT miss Simon one bit. His cruel comments may have been good for ratings, but they weren’t good for the contestants. Indeed, he could be called a bully.

+In our schools, we have anti-bullying programs. Wonder how they escalated? Because what they see on TV? especially when American Idol was supposed to be a family show? Sure, there were no swearing but boy oh boy, the bullying made up for it. Hope that Randy will follow suit; you can tell, he is beginning to see that bullying is not what helps the show.
