Vocal Masterclass Discussion For Top 24 Elimination Night Of American Idol Season Seven

Well, that’s that. No big surprises tonight. Hopefully the ladies will do better next week without the flu and with this first big week behind them.  Ditto for the guys, yet, overall, I thought the male performances were visually and audibly more impressive than the female performances.

The mother in me wanted Garrett to stay another week. He is too adorable.

And the tears that were shed. Poor Ramiele. She was a mess. And it seems that everyone loved Joanne.

I also felt that the group  number was quite outstanding. The ensemble vocals were very impressive.

Any thoughts out there, Masterclass fans?

    Long time reader…first time responder.

I missed the episode tonight, who left? Too bad I missed the ensemble too!

I’m looking forward to this season of AI. I’m a little too busy to watch every night right now, but once the top 12 gets sorted out…I will be parked in front of the TV ready to watch it!

    Hi there Bizzee:

Garrett and Colton were the male eliminations and Joanne and Amy were the female eliminations.

I don’t know if I will have an opportunity to watch next week – really busy. Thank heavens for YouTube.Com 🙂

I think all the right people left, although I would have rather seen Luke leave than Colton.

BTW, Masterclass Lady, did you check out Melinda’s My Funny Valentine yet?

I guess it makes sense because I can’t remember any of these people. Except for Joanne.

I don’t know if Garrett and Colton were necessarily the worst (the guys in general were very talented), but they certainly suffered from song choice (Garrett’s was especially languid) and lack of screen time. I am eager to see what Jason Yeager does with this second chance; he seems to be a rather solid singer to me (despite the supposed “cheesiness”).

The bottom two girls were spot on. I know it’s awful to say, but I remembered those two performances precisely because I found them rather painful to listen to. My eyes were popping out of my head, and I was thinking, “Ow! What is this? I cannot believe I am hearing this…” Amy’s singing was very breathy and decentralized at the beginning, and her diction was sloppy, and her pitch was extremely flat throughout the entire song. And Joanne, who for the record is extremely beautiful and seems very sweet, had major tuning issues throughout her song, lacked roundness to her tone, and failed to show much musicality in her interpretation. I’ve heard some really lovely sensitive versions of that song, and Joanne’s unfortunately came up very short. Nerves and/or sickness may have played a factor, I understand, though. They both seem like nice girls who are capable of much better, but vocally, they didn’t bring it last night.

I just wanted to add that it does seem like everyone loved Joanne! All the girls were crying. (Ramiele, Kady, and Asia’h notably, and other girls were getting there and/or comforting each other). It’s very touching to see how close these girls are.

I wish all the eliminated contestants the best in their future endeavors.

Erin – I haven’t heard Melinda’s song yet. I can barely find time to post these short discussion threads on my blog. I will listen to it – promise!

Looks like we are all on the same page here. But, I do think Luke deserves at leats another week. Has anybody heard him singig with his phenomenal a cappela group, “Chapter Six”? Really great singing. You can probably find the videoas on YouTube.Com. If I have a chance, I will post them.

I loved the ensemble song – best group together since season 2 I think – will see how it all plays out once we get to the top 12. So far seems like there is some depth of talent so it should be interesting!
