Without question, the top performance of the night goes to:
Michael Johns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is closely followed by David Archuleta.
Honourable mention goes to Danny Noriega (not because of his singing tonight, but b/c I think he’s a born performer. Also want to mention Robbie Carrico b/c he sounded pretty good, but I don’t think he really ripped into it. Danny Hernandez too for his clear voice.
I was fairly disappointed with most of them and was expecting more for some reason. Can we bring back Brian Melo and have him perform “Bold As Love”? Haha….I’m biased, but I love Brian.
Without question, the absolute worst was Luke Menard…..the whole nine yards…even him saying he disagreed with the judges. Very unbecoming. Bad performance, no charisma = terrible.

I’m on the fence about Michael Johns. I love him to death and he brings great vocal skills and charisma to this competition – but – I thought he was a vocally flat throughout his performance. His pitch seemed really off to me and he was very overpumped throughout this song. the pacing seemed off.
Now, David Archuleta was absolutely brilliant and he made me laugh so much during the interview session with Ryan and the judges. So adorable.
David Cook was also a standout – great vibe, great vocal skills.
I think Luke menard is being underestimated in the level of talent he would bring to this competition. I think his voice is so beautiful, but the song was not one that the judges were going to swoon over. But I appreciated his vocal performance very much. I hope he stays – I think he will surprise everyone with future performances.
And Chikezie was just plain annoying in his banter with the judges. Worse than Luke, I thought. To me, Luke is probably hurting from his absolute lack of exposure during the audition rounds and has not been given a fair shake.

I absolutely loved David A. & Michael last night, too. Jason C. really surprised me as well. He has a really nice voice and is a great guitarist. Those were the only three singers I thought stood out from the rest. The other singers were bad or just somewhere in the middle.
I thought Garrett, Luke, and Jason Y. were pretty bad. I’d say two of those three will be heading home tomorrow.
Off-topic, but have you heard Melinda Doolittle’s full studio version of My Funny Valentine? You are going to be amazed when you hear it.

I liked David Archuleta too. He made me smile the whole way through his performance and the interaction with the judges and Ryan.
I agree that Chikezie was annoying. I thought he sounded flat throughout the first part of his performance. The combination of the flat vocals of the first part of his performance, the orange suit (very unflattering!), his flip attitude with Randy and Paula, and then the way he argued with Simon, then insulted Simon’s taste in clothing, made him seem very off-putting.

I loved the full rich sound of David Archuleta. I know he won a tv talent show as a youngster, but honestly, some of the children that win those things aren’t always the greatest, in my opinion. I was a bit concerned when David seemed to strain a bit towards the end of his song- will his past medical condition pose any problems for him? Especially if he makes it to the end- and I think he will.
I thought the dreadlocks guy (Jason?) had a very nice sound but I didn’t like the way his face seemed kind of frozen in one expression. It will be interesting to hear how he does with other kinds of music.
Not as impressed with anyone else as I thought some were flat or pitchy (Chikeze, Michael), boring (Moon River guy, David H.) or need more training/maturity?(Colton, Danny). Some I thought should have never made it this far- Garrett just doesn’t have the chops.

I agree – Katherinesmom – sometimes these star search winners never fare well in the long run, especially males who have to endure a major change in their voice range when puberty decides to strike. But David seems really grounded – musically and socially – and that should carry him very far in this competition. Like you, I am concerned about the possible straining issues, especially as the competition unfolds over the next few weeks.
Jason? No too sold on this guy yet, although he did perform pretty well. I just didn’t see what the judges were seeing.
I think based on arrogance alone that Chikezie should leave this competition and I still think Luke needs another week to redeem himself.

I thought Garrett Haley was far and away the worst – the song he selected did not suit his voice and he came across as inexperienced and uninterested. I think he and Chikezie are going home tonight, and Luke will have another shot, although I fear he might go home next week simply due to lack of exposure. The same goes for Jason Yeager – they showed his kid about 1000 times and that’s the only way he’ll survive this week. They need to improve – dramatically.
