First of all, congratulations to Kelly Clarkson on two fronts: her recent marriage to Brandon Blackstock AND the impending release of her spanking new Christmas CD “Wrapped in Red.

The CD is scheduled to drop in stores and online on October 29th.

Here is the official release notes from KellyClarkson.Com

“Start the holiday season early this year with Kelly’s first Christmas album Wrapped In Red featuring the new classics “Underneath The Tree” & “Wrapped In Red”! Plus favorites like “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” White Christmas,” “Silent Night” and more! Click here to pre-order your copy on iTunes today. “

I had a listen to some of the tracks and was duly impressed. Check out some of the videos below.

Now, this is how “White Christmas” should sound like! Quiet, restrained, nostalgic – all the qualities that Irving Berlin strove to create when he wrote this song in 1941.

Oftentimes, you hear this song performed with an upbeat tempo and it makes absolutely no sense in the context of when and why the song was written. It is meant to be a nostalgic, melancholy song and has a special connection to those who served in the Second World War. Certainly, the film “White Christmas” is strong testament to this fact and so I have issues when this song is interpreted in a frivolous manner.

And her new single, “Underneath The Tree” is fun, spunky and just out and out phenomenal. Underneath The Tree is where I want to be with this CD this Christmas!

And wait until you hear her spin it around at the 2:55 minute mark. Her upper notes are stratospheric, crystal clear and clean. She’s the Queen! Long live and sing the Queen!

This talented young lady is going strong, looking radiant and has never sounded better. She is one of my favorites and I am thrilled as punch for her ongoing success in the music world.

  1. Sweet! I’m glad to hear Christmas music from Kelly. By the way, she just tweeted today that she got married over the weekend!

  2. Yes, indeed – she did get married. Feels funny that none of the parents were invited to the wedding. I’d be heartbroken if my daughters did that. Wonder if any of the Moms will be in the delivery room? LOL. Kelly wants to get pregnant quickly.

Anyway, I wish her the very best in her marriage. Much happiness to both! Hope the album does well.

  4. I agree with what you wrote about the melancholy nature of “White Christmas” as well as Kelly’s excellent treatment of it. Well said. She treated “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” with similar respect on the “iTunes Sessions” live album she did a few years ago? Give it a preview; I think you will like it. It’s one of my favorite three Kelly Clarkson songs. I wish she had included it on this new Christmas album.

The other two Kelly songs I would recommend to you that are not on this album are :
The live version of “Why Don’t You Try” that also appears on the iTunes Sessions album.

And a song that is my favorite Carrie Underwood song called “I Know You Won’t”. Kelly performed this on a VH1 Un-Plugged concert she did last year, I believe. You can watch the individual cuts or the whole concert (less the between song commentary) on VH1’s You Tube site. She could have a big hit with this one if she recorded it.

I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of Kelly’s new Christmas album, I’ve only heard some of the previews so far. Thanks for the heads up.
