An exciting gala event in honor of American Idol Season 7 Runner-Up, David Archuleta, was held on Saturday, April 6th at the Newport Beach Marriott Bayview in Los Angeles, California.

Organized and hosted by the extremely talented author, Pamela Pike, this event took months and months of planning.

As many of you already know, David is away for two years on a Mormon mission and this event was held in part to celebrate the one-year-milestone of his mission as well as to raise money and increased awareness for David’s favorite charities, the Children’s Miracle Network and Child-fund.

I was graciously invited by event coordinator, Pamela Pike to be a special guest speaker for this occasion.

Unfortunately, I live in Northern Ontario Canada – Timmins – and the distance, coupled by my personal schedule, made this an impossible journey for me.

But, oh how I wish I could be there. I am such an enormous fan of David Archuleta and, through his wonderful and supportive fan base, have come to appreciate and applaud every facet of his musical and personal life. He is a very, very special young man, always working so hard to bring an stellar and inspiring musical style and message to his listeners.

I did, however, send a video message which was played yesterday at the luncheon. Additionally, his vocal coach, Dean Kaelin sent a video message as well, detailing the process of recording his BEGIN CD. He mentioned that the vocals were recorded first. Interesting!

Many artists were invited to perform including David’s coaches on American Idol, vocalist Dorian Holley and pianist Michael Orland.

I have included a video of their performance of “My Funny Valentine” at the end of this blog topic.

I would like to thank FansOfDavid Facebook page for providing me with live updates of yesterday’s event, as well as pictures and videos for use in this article. You guys are the best!!

I will update this topic as new details come in. And, hey there David Fans, please add your thoughts and memories of this event in the comments section. Make it come alive for all of us, especially me!

Enjoy the video of Michael and Dorian!

  1. It sounds like a nice event; however, I will be more excited when a “Coming Home” reception is being planned. It seems I remember Michael Orland enjoyed working with David. There may have been problems with David’s Dad, though. Anyways, it is good that his fans want to keep David current!

How nice that you were invited, Rosanne!
