Tonight, the Top 8 Male Vocalists from American Idol Season 9 will get their final “kick at the can” before the announcement of the coveted Top 12 Finalists tomorrow evening.

They are: Aaron Kelly, Alex Lambert, Andrew Garcia, Casey JamesLee Dewyze, Michael Lynche,  Tim Urban, and Todrick Hall.

Best of luck to the guys this evening and feel welcome to come back after the show – or before – to share your comments.

MCL UPDATE #1: If I never see a guitar again, it will be too soon. Get out there and perform singers!  A guitar, in this kind of competition, does not work every week. Connect with audience – move, do something.  So far, only two singers have accomplished this task.

MCL UPDATE #2:  And then there were three – three without guitars, I mean!  Bravo!

MCL UPDATE #3: Not a Michael Lynche fan until tonight and now I am a HUGE fan. This is what is missing from Crystal. folks, and so many of the others. Move away from the bleepin’ mike and connect in a passionate and meaningful manner

My Top 6 Male Performers tonight were:

Aaron Kelly,   Casey JamesLee Dewyze, Michael Lynche,  Tim Urban, and Todrick Hall.

This time I agree with you completely about the top six, MCL. I never thought I would not include Andrew Garcia, nor did I think I would include Tim Urban in the top six but after tonight’s performances that’s what I’ve done. I couldn’t believe how well Tim Urban did tonight. And I loved Michael Lynche. With his talent, I can’t believe that he came out the first week and sang that Maroon Five song while playing the guitar. He has so much more talent than he showed us the first night. I actually think this is going to be a very entertaining season.

Yes Louise! These guys really came out of their shell and I, too, am feeling more optimistic about Season 9

Hey everyone! It’s funny how after the girls sang I couldn’t wait to come on here and talk about it. Tonight…not so much. I did my laundry and my dishes and now I sit here, wondering what to say. I did think Michael Lynche was amazing – he didn’t move me or make me cry but he sang well. The rest were blah to me. Some had moments but once again these guys are so pitchy!! It drives me crazy – I just can’t listen to that! If I continue to write I’m afraid that everyone here will think I’m miserable and negative and I am not so I will just give you my ranking.
    Michael Lynch #1 tonight.
    And now I’m stuck…
Ok, maybe Tim Urban next. (Wow. two weeks ago I was screaming at the tv – WHY IS HE STILL HERE? Ha! ) But there is a quality to his sound – especially his lower register, that is quite impressive. Tonight he sang well.
Aaron next – but he had major pitch issues near the beginning. I hated it. Then he began to really sing! And when that happened, he sounded amazing.
Lee is next but his pitch and his posture are bugging me.
Casey is #5 although his performance was very boring. Sounded kinda good – nothing special though.
I would have to put Alex next. Like his sound. Don’t like his stage presence.
Todrick – sorry, but I thought he butchered that song! Very pitchy. Not strong at all (Now, I had the We Will Rock You musical version in my head as I watched him and was waiting for that powerful moment and it just wasn’t there.)
Finally, Andrew. I think it’s time my man….It’s just not happening for him.
The results show SHOULD be interesting! Have a great night, all!

I have just finished watching the guys. This time I don’t think there will be a whole lot to say. I find the girls much more interesting, but here goes.

There is no question that Michael gave the best performance of the night, by far. That was so beautiful, filled with poignant emotion and feeling and so powerful. I was quite moved. I guess he is the real thing. This felt more sincere than any other performance of his so far. Great job!

I have to give credit to Tim Urban for somehow pulling off a song that is quite difficult to sing. It’s not the best version of that song, not by a long shot. But he deserves credit for giving the song meaning, conveying the feeling and emotion and singing in pitch throughout. I thought he should have been gone two weeks ago, but that performance may well earn him a place in the finals.

After that it gets kind of muddled. I still like Lee, even though he hasn’t managed to pull off a fully realized performance. I don’t know if he’s got a bad case of nerves, but he was off pitch in parts and seemed kind of tense. But the guy just has something, a kind of star quality, that makes me want to see more of him. I would love to see him get into the finals and get his act together, because I still think there is a good deal of potential and a real voice there.

I didn’t think Alex was as good as last week. It’s not his voice, it’s his stage presence. The guy seems very tense and almost like a deer in the headlights. He has an interesting tone and husky quality to his voice. If he could just relax, I think he might do well.

I think Andrew is in trouble. He just didn’t get the job done. I don’t know what is going on with his song choices, but he simply isn’t able to find the right one. He has a great sound and is talented, but he hasn’t gotten it right in the semifinals yet. Unfortunately, this could be it for him.

Casey did enough to get into the finals, but I am still not a fan. I don’t see any originality and unique quality to his singing. But he has the sex symbol thing going for him, I guess.

Aaron really gave it his best with that beautiful song. I think it’s going to be either him or Alex, not both. He had some trouble in parts of the song, but I thought he did connect with the emotion.

I cannot give an opinion or critique of Todrick, because he picked my all time favorite Freddie Mercury song, “Somebody to Love”. Some songs are untouchable to me and Freddie Mercury’s are in that category. I can’t be unbiased and that’s why I am unable to give an accurate assessment of Todrick’s performance. People who know me from last season will remember just how much Freddie Mercury means to me.

I am not at all sure who will be going home. It could be a toss-up among a few of the guys. I think either Alex or Aaron will go and probably Andrew.

I am not a music expert, so I just go with my reaction as a fan of the show. Michael did a nice job, but he doesn’t have that lovable Teddy Bear quality that Ruben had. Mike has a bit of an attitude and I haven’t fallen under his spell.

I think the three boys, Alex, Tim, and Aaron vying for the tween/teen vote will knock one of them out. I think because of the shakiness of his performance, it is going to be Aaron. It isn’t even a matter of song choice, but rather delivery. As a dreadhead, Jason’s performance felt more real and polished. However, he was already established as a fan favorite, while Tim is trying to survive. He did do a nice job with a great song choice. Alex has a lot of potential.

I cannot figure out Andrew’s choice; I did not like that song at all. Todrick took a risk. His singing was just okay; his performing talent is apparent. Casey still remains a solid choice for the tour. I think he will get better.

It wasn’t as boring of a show as some thought, but then maybe I am easy to please!

I’m also not a music expert, but very much enjoy the show. For me, it’s definitely a girls season, as Siobhan and Crystal are my favorites.

Tonight, I thought Mike’s performance was good, but as Kariann1 said, “I’ve not fallen under his spell”. As for Casey’s performance, I happened to be in the other room when it came on, so I heard it without seeing it, and I loved the sound. I liked his performance best of the guys last night. And I actually liked Todrick’s performance last night too.

I didn’t change my mind last night about any of the guys…I still like Andrew, Alex and Lee!

I am so sad at what the judges are doing to Andrew, is he a threat to the chosen girl? Give me a break!!!

He did not peak at Paula’s Straight up…but they have him chasing an un-obtainable “judges” moment, just let the boy sing what he wants and what he knows. I’m so mad, if he goes home it is not because of his voice it is because of the judges driving over him with the idol bus!

The other three places are up in the air for me, I will not argue over who fills those spots.

Ellen is becoming my favorite judge…she does not mind disagreeing with the other judges, she calls it as she sees it and I usually agree with her.

Please tell me that Simon and Kara are not going to start the goofy stuff!!! I think that it is rude to act like first graders while trying to judge a show!!!

Vonnie, I agree that Kara and Simon’s behavior are really getting on my nerves. I don’t find it cute or amusing, and it’s just so fake.

    Vonnie,
I really agree with you about the Simon/Kara behavior. It’s SO juvenile!!! Since the season started, it really seems like she is trying to be Paula’s replacement in every way and it’s not working well for her.

    Hi Katillac!

Katillac and louise…I was so irritated last night, how serious can you take someone WHO is supposed to be the professional, when they are acting like pre-schoolers…? Come on!!! I was so hoping that with Paula gone the show would take on a bit more of a serious tone. WRONG!!! Does Simon act like that when a new talent comes into his recording studio???
