  1. Hi MCL,

Not sure where to put this! Just wanted to share this fantastic link/video of “Home I’ll Be” by our beloved Canadian Tenors!!

  2. Thanks again Bizzee. Have you heard the news? Jamie McKnight is no longer with the Canadian Tenors. He seems happy though – I think he missed the musical theatre genre. That’s just a guess.

More details to follow, but here is an article: http://www.bclocalnews.com/vancouver_island_north/northislandgazette/community/38501674.html

Really upset that Jamie is gone. Clifton Murray was in the Top 32 of Canadian Idol one season – can’t remember which one.

  3. MCL, here is a clip of Jennifer Hudson singing the National Anthem at the Superbowl! She was so wonderful, considering all the horrible stuff she’s been through these past few months.

  4. Erin – thank you so much. I meant to add a blog topic about this, so thanks for adding the link here. Much appreciated. Jennifer was just outstanding and my heart goes out to here. What a horrible tragedy. The loss she is feeling must be so profound.

  7. Erin – thanks so much for this. I have been so busy with family and music-related activities, so I appreciate you sending me this link. Jennifer is such an amazing talent. I only hope that the prayers and love coming her way will continue to give her the strength and perseverance to overcome the pain she must be feeling over the loss of her family members.

The Impossible Dream – what a great song choice, considering her journey through life! Perfect song choice, as always.

  8. Yeah, I loved her song choice, too!! Things are already looking up for her now that she’s won a lot of awards in a week. A lot of people said that performance was so moving and inspiring. I honestly couldn’t be half the strong person she is so I am so proud to call her a wonderful role model.

  9. I had to watch it again before I went off to dreamland. It wa such an inspiring performance and such a wonderful tribute to Muhammed Ali. Jennifer’s voice truly soared in this song – this, to me, is her signature song. It speaks to her distinct artistry and triumph over adversity.

  18. Hi! I haven’t commented on here in a while, but thought you would appreciate having this link to Adam’s Time for Miracles. It leaked on a website I frequent, and someone got it on Youtube.

It’s stunning. I can’t wait to hear the actual recording and buy it on, I believe, Tuesday. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would love to read your review of it, but barring that, I just thought you’d love it. Your blog brought me so much pleasure, I just thought I’d return it in small measure, if you haven’t already heard this.

And just because I’m still flailing, I have to say… omg his VOICE. Especially the last two minutes. I’m speechless. I hope this works, I’m a little unsure if I have the coding right.

MCL, I wanted to get your take on Kris Allen’s “Live in the Vineyard” performances from last weekend. All of them (Man in the Mirror, Let it Rain,Falling Slowly/With or Without You) are on Youtube, but I’ll post a link to one performance: “Heartless/Gangster’s Paradise”

I liked the creativity of it, but what I REALLY wanted to know was your take on his voice. Do you notice any change? He has said that he’s been taking voice lessons since the show’s end. Thanks!!!

  22. MCL – I know I’ve been beseiging you with David Archuleta links lately. Believe me, it is only because he moves me so much and I want to share my joy. The following video is one of David performing “Prayer of the Children”.

This video also includes David introducing the song and explaining how his recent charity work has increased his appreciation of it. That in itself is well worth your time, and once he started singing, he left me utterly speechless. As`in everything else, David seems to connect to and believe every word of “Prayer of the Children”.

If nothing else, please`watch this video for personal enrichment and pleasure. Share your thoughts if you feel so inclined. I really enjoy your insightful comments on this site.

  24. I wasn’t sure where to post this, but I seriously cannot stop watching this video! It really reminds me of why Kelly is my favorite singer. Her phrasing is incredible; it’s so wonderfully bluesy and soulful. I love how well she projects throughout her entire range and the skill she has in varying her inflection and employing a wide palette of vocal textures and shadings. Not to mention the gorgeous purity of her tone and the way she approaches the “lies” diphthong; you can hear how she directs the vowel towards AH. Emotion and technical brilliance. 😀 Amazing!

  26. Hey MCL, long time reader, rare commenter. But, I just happened upon this amazing unplugged performance of David Archuleta singing his song “My Kind of Perfect” off of his new album. It has snippets of him speaking about the album and this song and I can’t express how much he’s actually matured. I can’t believe he’s happening on 20! I remember watching him on Idol when he was just 16, 17 years old. Granted, I’m a year and a half younger than him, but it makes me realize how fast time flies. Can’t believe I’m in college already, and everything is just so surreal! Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

  28. MCL, here’s a video of Eva Cassidy singing Over the Rainbow…she’s the greatest female singer who ever lived, in my opinion.

  29. Thank you so much Erin. I love Eva Cassidy. She is in a league of her own. This is why I am rooting for Dia. She is unique and innovative.

She also seems to be the media darling of this competition as well and her ITunes sales are indicative of her popularity across the board.

  32. MCL, do you think Eva had great technical ability when it came to singing? I sure think she did!!

  33. Yes, Erin, she did. But it was her creativity and passion for the music that drew me to her. Excellence = Eva Cassidy

  34. Oh yes, thats what I love about her the most!! I’m also pretty convinced she had some type of condition on the autism spectrum, possibly Aspergers (what James has)…if you read more about her, you’ll see why. Aside from the fact that she was painfully shy when performing in front of an audience, she wanted desperately to connect with people but wasn’t sure how. She was also a bit of a loner…preferring to be focused on her art projects, music, and love of nature. I can give you more info about her if you want. : )

And here is David talking about ots genesis at his show in St. George, Utah, on release day. He has been on quite a journey since his Idol days:

Additional good news is that David will be released another single at Christmastime called “My Little Prayer.” I am SO looking forward to this because it’s a gorgeous song. And I have no doubt David’s next album (currently being remastered; release date not announced yet) will be my favorite of his to date.

  42. More David Archuleta goodness. On December 8th, he released a single for the Christmas season called “My Little Prayer.” He tells the story of the song’s birth as only he can, so forgive me for pasting it all here:

“Something I try to do to each day is begin by saying a prayer in the morning, and then end my day with a prayer at night. Sometimes, however, I fall asleep before I say my nightly prayer. One time almost a year ago I had one of these nights where I fell asleep before saying a prayer. Something unusual happened.

That night I had a dream. It was different than anything I had experiences before. In my dream I was praying-having a conversation with God. The conversation was also different. I was singing. I could hear simple chords in my dream that I was laying a simple melody and prayer on top of.

As I was having this conversation in music with God, He told me to get up and write this down. I thought and said, “…but… I’m sleeping. I’m not sure I know how to get up from a dream!” He told me “if you don’t get up now, you’ll forget it in the morning.” I tried everything I could to wake up, and I did! There in the middle of the night I went straight to the piano with the words and melody I had spoken in my dream still clear in my head, and wrote it all down. It was the fastest I had ever written a song because I feel this one was given to me.

I’ve sung this song several times this year now and people kept asking where to find it so I felt it would be good to share it during this Holiday season. I hope you enjoy it and find encouragement to begin your own simple and sincere conversations in prayer! #mylittleprayer #prayer #christmas”

Here’s the music video, which was filmed on Temple Square:

And here’s a live performance, where it’s just him playing the piano while singing. I am especially moved by this performance because you can actually hear the tears in his voice toward the end:

Merry (early) Christmas to you and enjoy “My Little Prayer.”
