  1. Surprised no comments here but I guess that’s because the best singers did not win and interest was lost, just kidding… but really Jeremiah and Madison were the voices this year…… I did not watch it through it’s entirety but Ms. underwood always seems to continue to impress…. great fun song, great vocals… . Jeremiah and Katy sounded wonderful together on Unconditionally….. I really hope this kid finds a way to make it in the business, he is just that amazing…… AGain the wrong winner was chosen IMO……

  3. The voice was very lackluster this season, Maelyn will win; I have no favorite. However, Andrew started to blossom at the end, I really like his voice. I do agree with the consensus that there were to many country artists in the finale, they split votes and Dexter and Andrew look a little too much alike. The judges panel were a little off this season too, Adam was pouty and there just didn’t seem to be much respect for each other…maybe this show has ran its course.

  4. Agree with Vonnie about The Voice. Of the four left, I like Maelyn best, and think she deserves to win. Everyone else is country, and I’m not a huge fan of country music.

  8. Lol, idol girl… I definitely see Maelyn winning tonight; she has a pretty voice, just a little boring for me. I’m not a country music fan either, but tend to like the male country singers voices usually more than the R&B singers, especially if they sound more southern rock, that’s why Andrew was growing on me, he peeked too late though.

  9. I don’t believe that the wrong person has ever been the winner of American Idol. It’s not a singing competition, although that’s an element of it. Ultimately it’s a people’s choice award, and in all probability the judge’s save is based on the people’s votes up to that point.

Congratulations to Laine! He is a fine choice for this year’s winner. He has a great rasp to is voice, can sing on key, presents himself as a star, and I feel weird saying so but, he looks good in his clothes! He can wear stuff that Lionel would wear and look good doing it. Clean cut all American boy. American Idol. I’m ok with that. The people I like usually go out between fifth and tenth place.

I’ve been a Dexter fan this season (but not to the exclusion of others) because he’s a homeboy and dang if the boy can’t sing. As Vonnie said, Andrew really began to shine in the nd. It’s a shame the two of them are competing in the same season. But Maelyn can sing! In the end , when I would normally only vote for my favorite, I voted equally for Dexter and Maelyn. Good luck to both of them.

Now that they have perfected multiple means of voting in real time, it’s time for the Titter save to go. Let everyone vote.

  11. I couldn’t stand Taylor Hicks, so I’m amongst those who felt that the wrong person won season 5 of American Idol. Same way I felt about season 8 and Kris Allen winning.

This nails all the gripes I have with The Voice. I’ve finally come to see the light and realize that it’s always been a game show about spinning chairs not really about finding talent. https://idolchatteryd.com/how-producers-ruined-the-voice/

  12. I was Team Jeremiah. His duet with Katy Perry was amazing. It was great to see Adam and Carrie once again. They are always awesome and seem to be consistent call-back Idol Alumnae for the episodes and finale.

I am pretty much done with The Voice. Long. Time. Ago.

  13. Gene, I totally understand but these judges simply don’t critique like they should have. And I really don’t buy into the people’s choice. Other factors come into play to determine the winner…. at least years ago the top two happen to be the best vocalists, and we know since CArrie Underwood we have not had any other true superstars from this show…I’m fine with Laine winning but is he marketable, only time will tell…… I was also in the Jeremiah wheel house, the gentleman had an amazing voice… he could be the next Elton John, it is so hard making it in this business…….. I always wish these recording companies did more for these contestants…….

  14. Idol girl you are absolutely correct. Adam and Katharine should have won in the perspective seasons. Adam ran circles around Kris in both voice and stage presence…. Even last year Gabby Barrett should have won, clearly the girl had the voice….. if her song right now does well, she may have a decent shot in Country music. At least she is out touring with the male artists of country and she just signed with a record company…..

  15. The mistakes of American Idol tend to be corrected with record sales. Chris Daughtry is the true winner from season 5, just as Adam has been the true winner of season 8.

  16. Music is so subjective – I’m always amazed at how everyone hears and what they deem a winning voice. Where one may be upset that their voice didn’t win, another is ecstatic that theirs did. I didn’t watch idol faithfully, I thought Jeremiah was really good, but I’m always distracted by shiny objects and Laine filled that distraction. He is a classy kid, who just so happens, can really sing…subjective! I also LOVED Taylor Hicks, saw him in concert and he put on an outstanding Jazz/Blues show – he was totally different than when he was on idol. I think the most head scratcher was Adam not winning, that still boggles my brain.

    Hi everyone! 😃💕

  17. I haven’t watched the voice since Billy Gilman was on, but I have to say Maelyn can SANG…. her version of Hallelujah and Stay were total dope. It’s amazing to know that she is totally deaf in one ear and can sing like that. Totally crazy….. impeccable voice…. I can see why she won……

  18. Hey everyone. Thank you so much for keeping this MCL Community alive. I really have to find time to add more articles.

But, I have been sick with the flu here for two weeks. It comes and goes and comes and goes. Tomorrow I am out of town until Friday for a family event, so, hopefully, I will feel better.

Thanks so much for your insights and support. I pretty much agree with all of you. We are a very symbiotic little group here, aren’t we! 🥰

  20. Richard,
I really enjoyed Maelyn’s duets this week, both with John singing Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable” and with Sarah Machlacan singing “In The Arms of an Angel.” I thought both duets were outstanding and very enjoyable.

  21. The type of country I prefer is pop style country – Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, for example.

  22. Oh no, MCL, hope you are feeling better soon! 😢

I wasn’t on the Gyth train, I would have liked to have seen Andrew and Dexter in the top three. I totally agree that Maelyn had a beautiful voice. I honestly thought she sounded better than Sarah. I don’t usually like all of the extra singers on finale night, but boy was I happy this time getting to see Hootie and the Blowfish – one of my favorite groups from back in the day. When they were up and coming, they played a lot of gigs in the Va Beach area, was really glad to see them make it in the industry; now to land me some tickets for their come back tour! 😃

Looks like AGT scrambled their eggs, switching out Heidi and Mel…can’t say I’m unhappy about Tyra leaving, Terry will do a great job!

  25. Idol Girl…oh wow! The writing was pretty much on the wall for Adam; after last season with D’Andrea and Reagan, voice voters made him and his team suffer this season. He has been pouty and pretty much unbearable, so I wondered if he would stay. I’m not sure how ratings will be with him gone and Gwen coming onboard. Wonder if it was his choice or a production choice? Any word on who the guest judge will be?

  26. Regarding The Voice’s support and promotion of their winners and other singers, I just saw Chevel Shepherd sing “God Bless America” for a crowd of over 300,000 during the opening ceremonies of the Indianapolis 500. Few people will ever have the opportunity to sing for a crowd of this size. There was one other notable on the roster today, our own Kelly Clarkson singing “the National Anthem.” Both ladies did a very nice job.

  32. Gene,

I didn’t watch it, thinking I’m going to pass on this one. Did you watch it?

    Like

  33. Yes I did. It was pretty low key. Even though there was an element of competition it doesn’t really seem like a contest. They have a guest artist, who was John Legend on the first episode, along with three well known producers and three young song witters who are pitching their song to the guest star. (Legend in this case)

So the writer comes into a room where the four professionals are seated comfortably and sing their song for the panel. The next part was pretty remarkable. They begin brainstorming and making subtle changes to the lyrics or the melody or the general style so that the song fits the guest artist style and what they are trying to say with their music. John Legend is remarkably talented in this area. He had a keyboard next to him and just begins playing the song and messing with the vocal phrasing etc. The others put there two cents worth in as well. Then each of the other two contestants take a turn pitching their song.

In the next phase, each contestant pairs up with one of the three producers to polish their song even further and then they present the finished version for the guest star. Finally he chooses one of the three songs to add to his upcoming album which is the competition element of it.

As far as I know, each episode is a free standing element and there is no ongoing competition throughout the season. I could be wrong about that. If I’m correct then there is no need to make it appointment TV but just enjoy seeing another side of the business, at least as they present it to be.

Whether or not I watch will depend more on the participants than anything else.
