Vocal MasterClass Discussion For Season 15 Of The Voice: The Top 24 Live Playoffs

Vocal MasterClass Discussion For Season 15 Of The Voice: The Top 24 Live Playoffs

The Voice airs live this week as the Top 24 perform live for your votes on Monday, November 12th on NBC at 8:00 PM.

On the second night (Tuesday November 13th) of the live playoffs, the two artists with the most votes from each team advance to the Top 13.

Then each coach will select one more artist to move on to the Top 13.

Additionally, two “comeback artists” will perform live for a chance to re-enter the competition.

So there are many chances for your favourites to move deeper into the competition. I like that. Hopefully, some really great singers will prevail as the show starts to wind down for another season.

Best of luck to all the artists.

  1. Nothing deep here just my first impression of each of their performances. I made the notes to help me sort through the field more than anything else.

    Team Blake

Michael Lee opened with a Delbert McClinton song. I’m beginning to believe that these newer TVs are listening to you like people say. He performed well enough but you have to be careful who you compare yourself with by virtue of song choice.

Then Dave rubbed a hole in his guitar right where “Triger” has one to do his Willie Nelson number. Didn’t like.

I’m on and off with Natasha. Off tonight.

Chris is decent but a high voice in the style of music he sings doesn’t seem to fit very well. I thought it was a woman singing until I looked up and saw Chris.

Funsho sounds like a pro! Very good performance!

Kirk started his song pretty well but fell apart on the high part midway through. He pulled it back together in the end. Maybe he will make the cut.

    Team Kelly

    Abby just ok

    Keith (Adele) didn’t like.

Sarah Grace singing Sam and Dave’s “Something’s Wrong With My Baby” and playing her Hammond B3. YEZ as Kelly would say!! I’m in love with this child!!!

Zaxai I thought he was good but a little under his ability.

Chevelle I said earlier to my wife that she reminded me of Niomi Judd in her early days and she comes out with an early Judd’s song.

Kimberly sang well enough but I didn’t like this song for her or all of the screaming at the end. She has better in her.

    Team Adam

Steve Ben Afflack IS The Wedding Singer! I enjoy the songs he’s singing and I thing Carnival and Princess Lines are booking for next cruise season.

    Deandre Very good! Another pro.

Radha She is good at what she does but her tone doesn’t set well with me.

Kamron Good song choice. Pretty good

Tyke The Taco truck singer / surfer dude. Good song for him. His best performance to date.

Reagan Good song choice, decent delivery

    Team Jennifer

Patrique Dude can sing, I’m not a likely customer

Makensie I would like to hear her sing. She was killing me with all of the embellishments. It was two shoe worthy for what it’s worth.

    Franc Good performance from Franc

Sandyredd Another shoe from j Hud for the Tina throwback Diva with the super low register and huge stage presence. Honorable mention for the thigh work. I like this one for some reason.

Colton I don’t care for his style.

Kennedy The kid is remarkable. It’s hard to have much depth at her age but she may rate child prodigy status. That was a pretty decent live performance.

Ridiculous elimination on DWTS tonight. They cut one of the most likely winners.

  2. Kind of a lackluster night for me:

Team Blake ( his team is the hardest for me to pick three, I would advance them all)
    1. Michael Lee (my favorite)
    2. Kirk (another favorite, although I didn’t like his song)
    3. Chris or Dave

    Team Kelly
    1. Chevele
    2. Sarah Grace (my favorite)
    3. Zaxia

    Team Adam
    1. Steve
    2. Tyke

    Team JHud
    1. McKenzie (my favorite)
    2. Kennedy (only because I know she will advance, her song was not good)

I don’t have a favorite, favorite this year, a lot of likes…hopefully someone will change my mind in the live rounds.

  3. What did I just watch? Color me confused…come back artists, whose idea was this. Does Kelly now lose her bring back contestant?

What was Blake thinking, letting Michael go home, one can only hope he brings him back. As well as Kelly, not keep Zaxia…

  4. I was disappointed with Michael Lee going home and surprised by a few others. I new they were doing the come back artist thing but was unclear how they would re-integrate that artist into the competition. I haven’t heard them mention the bring back artist this season. Have you? I wonder if they will have them on any team.

I guess Sarah Grace is my over all favorite. Not that I think she will win, just that she is my favorite. I was pleasantly surprised that Kirk made it through as well as SandyRedd, Given the group still standing when she was chosen.

They should have only cut two from each team at this point, but I say that every year.

Did you watch the new show?

  5. Gene – thanks for your synopsis. Deandre who? Not the same Deandre who was on American Idol? If so, I am rooting for him. I have yet to watch this season lol

  6. Gene,

I did watch the new show; it was kind of cheesy! Tony wasn’t on there this time. They have three, either single artists or group compete and the audience votes, the winner is then put through to a grand finale show.

I agree with your thoughts on the Voice, we go through all of the rounds and finally get to see the teams and in one show half of them goes home. I think once live shows start the elimination process should be one from each team for the first two weeks and then one a week after that, maybe cut out some of the early rounds.

  7. MCL,
No, this is a different Deandre. He is pictured on the right, under the M, in the team Adam photo above. The season has been pretty good so far.

  8. Vonnie,
Cheesy says it all. Interestingly the first song “Two More Bottles of Wine” was written by Delbert McClinton. He also wrote the song that Michael Lee opened the live rounds of the Voice with. I feel vindicated after following the guy for nearly forty years. Also, the first two songs on the new show were first recorded by Emmylou Harris who was born here and I’m also a fan of. I didn’t care for any of this weeks acts, so if it continues at this pace, Tony should win handily.

  9. Gene,

Oops! Sorry, I wasn’t sure if you had watched it and here I go on about it…😳 yeah, none of the three had me riveted to my tv. Tony should do very well, I will definitely watch until he is on and see how he does. It just seemed so scripted, I like the idea of the show, I think different judges maybe? Keith Urban would be good, I like Shania, she can stay. Hopefully Tony sings Grand Tour…with him being a fairly local boy, he does several concerts that are relatively close by, and yet I have not made it to one. I really need to go, cause one day, he’s not going to be doing these small hometown venues, I think that boys gonna be big and I hope this show does it for him, but still think he should have went on the Voice.

  10. No big deal Vonnie, my question was vague.

I agree with your points except that i think these judges are about as big league as this show can justify. They spend too much time gloating over Shania but maybe that will settle down. I wanted to like the fist couple but the woman kept singing off key. I don’t care for the style that the other two represented.

Tony is a shoe in, but, one of his mentors let me down last night. I bought tickets to see Vince Gill for our anniversary way in advance during the pre-sale period. The day of the event he had to cancel due to minor illness. It happens. What can I say.

I recorded the CMA award show so I could watch in fast forward. One notable observation was that the show was “Idol fest” with Carrie, Kieth, Luke Ryan, Ryan, 3 new contestants auditioning, Lauren Alaina, and Kelli Pickler. Carrie, her soon to be born child, and Lauren performed, were nominated and Kieth and Carrie won. Lauren was being pimped pretty heavily and Kelly did a back stage interview and looked better in her dress than most of the folks there. Sharna Burgess from DWTS accompanied Bobby Bones who was her dance partner this season and presented an award.

About the only thing worth seeing was a song by Chris Stapleton, his wife who always sings with him, Mavis Staples, (YES) Marin Morris, and back from the “you no longer fit in our idea of country music file” Marty Stewart who was playing Pop Staples guitar, which he now owns. You probably won’t get that fun fact anywhere else. I pulled it from my box of useless information!

The rest was fast forward material.
