Vocal MasterClass Discussion For American Idol Season 16: The Top 3 Finale

Last week, I was deeply embedded in Mother’s Day Celebrations and forgot to add a topic for Carrie Underwood’s appearance as a mentor and performer on last week’s American Idol show.

I managed to watch some of the performances online and they were truly excellent. Additionally, Carrie performed exceptionally well and was and will remain to be a stellar role model for these young singers.

This week, the American Idol Finale is in full swing and will culminate with the crowning of Caleb, Gabby or Maddie as the Season 16 winner. It seems that all roads lead to Gabby (if one is to believe the gossip and predictions online). However, the votes will tell the story and we shall how this evolves

American Idol airs on Sunday, May 20th and Monday, May 21st on ABC at 8:00 PM. Who do you think will win? Who do you want to win? Please share your thoughts in the comments section.

  1. I think Gabby or Caleb will win. I’m not much of a country fan, but I really like his voice and his sense of humor.

  4. It’s been a pretty good season. It’s nice to see the growth (and loss of weight) by Caleb. However, I do believe it will between Maddie and Gabby. I also like Cade and feel he’ll end up singing in a Rock and Roll Band. Gabby is glamorous, while Maddie is more down to earth. I think the girls need the win more than Caleb does. I do think he will make waves in the Country world. Only time will tell.

  7. I like Maddie, but I don’t have mainstream taste in music, so I’m surprised that she won. Pleased, but surprised.

I knew Maddie would win….. Just like Season 8 with Kris…… Gabby is now free for the taking….. Many doors will open for her….. She can pretty much do any genre, hopefully the R&B route…

  9. This was a meh season as far as I’m concerned. The final three were okay, and I knew for sure Caleb wouldn’t win because they didn’t want another WGWG. Speaking of which yesterday was the 10th anniversary of David Cook’s win on S7. Now that was a finale! I re-watched it, and the difference in the size and enthusiasm of the audience was really telling. This year it looked very small and contained.

I didn’t really think after only 2 years off the air that a re-boot would work, and I was right. The ratings for the finale weren’t through the roof. I know it’s been renewed but that’s because Disney has more movies to hype. What’s really unfortunate is that Katy Perry is returning as a judge. Major Fail!! Some where amidst all her babbling and posing, there may have been good advice, but I didn’t hear it. What advice could she give the contestants about staying relevant? She hasn’t had a hit in years and her last record disappeared almost as soon as it was released.

It’s unfortunate, but I’m not a fan anymore and don’t think I’ll be back next season. It’s time to move on people.

  11. Just wanted to add that I caught Caleb on Live with Kelly & Ryan this morning. I really think that young man will go far in the business. He is very talented, has a great voice and is a good musician. What makes me think he’ll be in it for the long haul, is his personality. He reminds me of another Idol contestant in that he has a great sense of humour, is very self-deprecating and is very self assured. He never misses a beat and is never caught off guard. Not to mention being very down to earth and likeable.

What do you think MCL? I think he definitely has what it takes to survive and thrive.

  12. Vocab Mad – hard to say about Caleb. He is very talented and so genuine but so many fine artists have been left in the dust after these shows are over. It truly saddens me. But, I am rooting for for him. He is a wonderful singer and so real. Love him
