About Masterclass Lady
Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

Well, I would have picked a few differently than the judges, but all in all, I think it will be a pretty good group going to the Live Round. I think this season, I like someone from each team; not good at names yet. There are a lot of big voices this season , and a few that sound quite a bit alike, that will cancel each other out. As far as a pick for the confetti bath, not a clue…yet!

Is Wilkes your “Long Hair Guy?”
He’s pretty good. The thing in his lip in a distracting annoyance for me.Was he as good as you had hoped for?
The kid that opened on Alicia’s team who played the piano this week is the guy who I was talking about who has somehow mastered how to perform as a singer while playing the guitar. He handles that task better than anyone I have ever seen. He had an interesting take on “New York State of Mind” and included a little bit of Rat Pack swag to combat the dedicated crooner. I think he stays a while.
The four who range from R&B to pop, two from Kelly and two from Alicia I think, can’t get beyond the full throttle vocals from start to finish with 30 runs per minute. It’s a shame because I think all four are talented singers and all four seem to be very nice folks. The guy who was a cancer survivor was the only one of the four that you could tell a little bit about what his voice sounded like. Wouldn’t you like to hear the lady who is a backup singer just sing a pretty ballad. She’s a hoot.
The girl at the end who did a little Etta James was pretty good too. At least she had a clue about the power of nuance. Still a little over the top but she did have a gas peddle in her vocal mobile.
I’m really enjoying Kelly since the end of the blind auditions. She offers very good evaluations after the singers perform and I have learned a few thinks from her advice to her team members during practice sessions, like suggesting starting the word “Ever” with the “H” sound, “Hevea”
I’ve also enjoyed seeing the comradery and support for one another between the contestants.

Yes, Wilkes is the long haired guy, umm, I didn’t like him last night. I actually liked the guy “Dylan” who was paired against him much better; Blake should have kept him. Wilkes has a cool voice, but didn’t like that song or something, I don’t know!
Yes, loved that guy “Britain”(?) from team Alicia, he is my favorite from her team followed by Kelsea who sang I’l Rise up. Kelly has a couple on her team that I’m liking too, no names yet 😃. I am really enjoying Kelly too, I would love to see her become a permanent judge. When she gets up and does that Pappy O’Daniel dance, she cracks me up, her sense of humor is off the charts.
I too would love to hear some of the big voices, settle in to a ballad, I would like to hear their voices other than glory notes and runs.

Yes, Britton is the guy’s name that did the cool guitar work and played piano and sang New York State of Mind this week. All of his vocals have been good since the blinds. I think he and my 14 year old will make the top three.
There is another girl whom I have lost track of, that went to Berklee College of music and there is a guy who got the rush montage right at the end whose name eludes me. They are both good as well.
One thing is for sure. They are going to throw away a lot of talent this season.

I liked Reid also, sounds like Vince Gill. I liked Jackie too. You’re right, a lot of really good singers are going home next week. I see all four judges having potential winners, but agree, Britton will be around for the long haul.
Hahaha, and they talked about Kelly’s dance last night; they called it the bounce! My goodness I loved Adam and Blake’s Duet, they should put out a standards album together (Blake is definitely the Dean Martin of the two) Kelly and Alicia were great too.

I was worried for a moment, I thought Idols kind of theme weeks; but these won’t be bad. It will just open the door more widely for back stories! The only one I don’t care for is duets week, and the fact that it counts for votes. Other than that, I’m loving the voice.
