Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

I really liked Chloe tonight, she sounded like a mix between Melissa Etheridge and Stevie Nicks, absolutely loved her. I liked her and Noah as well. Chloe as far as I’m concerned stands alone.
I was really hoping Davon would strip down that song and simply sing it. I loved the fist few lines of his song, he has a beautiful voice, but I can’t go with him when he goes wherever he goes.
I guess if I were to chose a top four, I would say definitely Chloe but after that I don’t know, Brooke, Red, Keisha or Addison. Just a guess

I thought Addison’s solo performance was beautiful, heartfelt and stood far above the rest as the best performance of the night. Hers was the only song that had an emotional component that she delivered with incredible grace. I’ve heard this song since it was brand new in the 60’s from both Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell and a host of others later on. I’ve always thought it was a beautiful song but it never had an impact on me like it did when this 16 year old kid sang it. Wow. It was about 2/3 through the song when it seemed like she stopped singing with her mouth and the song became her story and came from her heart. The brief moment that she was overwhelmed by her emotions and did that thing with her lips was pretty cute and also shows what she’s made of. Outstanding! (I may be a little biased)
I thought Addison got screwed in the duet pairings. That, along with Adam’s comments make me think that Addison is getting in the way of their plans for this season.
Red sang “Go Rest High” better than I thought he would but for this iconic song that has brought many grown men to tears, most frequently it’s writer Vince Gill, Red lacked the emotional connection for me. The two female backing vocalist who sang with him were excellent and brought the part of the song most often sung by Patti Loveless to life and carried Red through the high parts masterfully. You could also see his skill and experience in working seamlessly with the backing vocalist.
Chloe had a good night with both performances, which may be the most important factor in her probable win. No one else’s duet made it into the iTunes Top Ten. The duets chart performance may be what pushes Noah past Brooke into the Top 4. I didn’t see Chloe as Blake described her, “the most iconic voice ever on The Voice.”
Noah hasn’t really impressed me vocally for several weeks but he had the performer thing going on last night. I think he is a capable singer but his song choices didn’t suit my ear.
Of the rest there may be a market for Brooke. She has a nice voice but gives into the temptation to over sing too often. There were moments in her duet where her voice was very nice and you could see her in the new R&B or dance music or as part of a duo. Not my cup of tea.

It always amazes me how music touches us each so differently. How we each watch the same show, and walk away with a different perception; I love it. I love reading why and how a song and a voice became music to your ears, caressing your soul as it is being delivered. That, is what music is all about and why I love it so much.
I will agree with you Gene on the Blake vs Chloe comment…while she does have the most iconic, stand alone voice this season, there have been others before her and most assuredly will be after. Red, didn’t wow me either…for that matter, Chloe was the only one who made me sit up and listen, mainly because, she creates the whole package when she’s on stage; voice, wardrobe, ambience!
Keisha should have driven to the nearest exit on that country lane and took it. I would have thought after last week she and Blake would have seen the light and changed lanes. I’m afraid it may have cost her a top four spot.

I’m back.
I agree with you 100% regarding your first paragraph. Music is very personal and at the same time it brings people together of different backgrounds, and interest.
Regarding Red’s song, “Go Rest High,” I had thought about recommending a Kieth Whitley song for him in last weeks comments but I didn’t have time. Ironic that he chose one that was, in part anyway, written in honor of him. I’ve seen Vince Gill perform it a number of times. It’s always good, sometimes emotional and sometimes VERY emotional. He and Patti Lovelace did it at a huge memorial service held for George Jones at the Opry House. Everybody in country music was there. Vince got choked up and the lip began to quiver and he retreated to his guitar playing to compose himself while Patti carried on like a trooper and sang his part. At the same time Garth Brooks rose to his feet as if at attention, placed his big cowboy hat over his heart and stood there quite and strong in support of his friend who was honoring their friend. Trica was close behind in the gesture. Some people would see an epic fail. Others would see a great moment in Country music history. I know this much, I wasn’t really a fan of Garth Brookes prior to that, no particular reason, but I have been since.
I was going to say earlier that I liked Chloe’s performance and I watched her pretty closely as well. One thing I didn’t like so much was the way changed the phrasing of the song. It just didn’t sound right to me. It worked much better for me in the final line of the song were it had sort of an Alice in Wonderland quality as if she REALLY wanted to know what love is. I liked the change there. Last week she scored 100 on the costuming choices and Addison was at about 75. This week It was too much, for my taste anyway. It does relate to her performance style but so does Addison’s. She’s a stand and deliver singer that draws you in, that tells her story with her song and facial an eye expression. Chloe is more of a big show type of performer. Given Chloe’s style last night, I would have added a hand prop of some sort, like a long scarf or something of that sort. It was sort of like Stevie Nix with nothing on or in her hands.
I think Idol Girl has the right people in the Top 5 but I will go out on a limb and put Noah in the Top 4 because of the better iTunes ranking of his duet. Brooke has pulled a few spots ahead of him in the Top 10 though. There has also been voting that didn’t align with the iTunes tallies this season. Who knows?
I will probably watch Idol for a while anyway but I don’t like Katy Perry. Luke Bryan is, by all indications, a good man. He has a good nature and is comical. I don’t really know his music and have no idea about his knowledge of singing or what sort of judge he will make. Lionel Richie is very well qualified on paper for the job. I don’t know how that will translate. Hopefully they will look at all of the competing shows that they have spawned over the years and try to incorporate some of the successful features of those shows while maintaining their unique DNA.

I really have no idea past Chloe who will grace the top four finale bound contestants, I’m guessing Red, Brooke and Addison, but not sure if those two are canceling each other out with votes and maybe Keisha and or Noah will sneak in. This has been an odd season indeed for voting.
Speaking of Vince Gill, he just called a young man out of the audience up on stage at his concert to sing a Conway Twitty song ( one of my all time favorite singers) his name is Tony Jackson and he, to my ears, is the best country singer I have heard in a long time. If you get a chance, look him up, he sings George Jones’ song “Grand Tour” it is outstanding, he also has a single out that he is peddling called “old porch swing”.
I have listened to Addison, but I guess I haven’t heard her, might be I’m a little put out with Adam this season, I’ve not gotten over Emily yet.

It ended up following the iTunes singles chart except that Red was ahead of Brooke on the chart. I’m not sure how the duets contributed to the totals tonight but it wasn’t enough for Noah to overcome two positions on the singles chart. It’s a good result I guess.
Vince does a little bit of producing and he and Amy have a pretty nice studio at their home. He did Ashley Monroe’s album “The Blade.” I know a little bit about Tony Jackson. I saw he a Vince on RFD TV i think. He’s a protegee of Vince, but wait, there is more. The two of them have worked with some of the best in remaking the old Lovin’ Spoonfull song “Nashville Cats” featuring Vince, John Sebastian, legendary guitarist Steve Cropper who was with Booker T and the MGs (Green Onions) who were also the house band at Stax Records, where they recorded a lot of those songs you may have thought were done at Motown. Like Sam and Dave’s “Soul Man.” In the middle of that song Sam Moore says “play it Steve and he hits about five licks. He was also in the sort of spoof band the Blues Brothers who turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to the old forgotten blues players. After they played on Saturday Night (back when people watched it) recorded a killer album and made the Blues Brothers movie, the old blues records began to fly off the shelf. Back to Tony Jackson, he also has Paul Franklin on steel guitar who is the best player of that instrument that ever lived. If there isn’t a steel, it ain’t country. He and Vince made a great album together reprising some great country music from the era when there was great country music. They also do a regular gig at a small venue in Nashville every Monday night with a band they are both members of called the Time Jumpers. The band is made up of old Nashville side men and studio musicians, backing vocalist and older female singers. Great stuff ! Tony Jackson has a good voice and he is aligned with people that can help him find success.
I’ve liked Addison for a while but what I saw in her last night came maybe one line before she became verclipzed and did the blublublubu thing with her lips. The songs original meaning sort of faded into a story of a wide eyed young woman realizing, and saying, “I really don’t know life at all” in a very compelling and believable way. I’ve seen it three times now and it has the same effect for some reason.

Wow Gene, here I thought I was going to introduce you to a new break out artist and you in turn enlightened me…I did not know that about Tony and Vince. You are right, he is surrounded by the right people and is being introduced around town, he posts pictures of himself with some big names. I love his voice, I have been watching this young man. I’m not a country music fan, but I’m certainly his fan. Vince Gill is phenomenal as is his wife Amy.
Conspiracy theory, you say! The Voice? Nah, never! Haha, you betcha! There were a couple of conspiracy recipients in that Vegas group sing last night. I know, I know, again with this Emily thing; after watching her go home, yeah, somebody’s got something cooking in the kettle and it’s stinking up the place.
I don’t like the instant save, at all. For some, they are re-voting to save the same person they had put through the night before. In some instances you know that a person whom should have went home, gets saved, while the one who actually made it through goes home. That in itself is a conspiracy, how do we the viewers know who actually wins the instant save?!?!?!?!
I kind of feel like this is going to be a Miley year, just like they did for Christina and Alicia…funny how, all four coaches are represented, while Blake had three in last night?! In which my husband said all three of them should have went to the finale, he liked Keisha, I did too, but song choice is what sent her home, or else I think she would have taken Adam or Noah’s place in the sing off.
On to the next topic…I think Luke will be a big draw for Idol. As far a Lionel, not so sure, there are more than enough current artists who would bring in viewers, I highly doubt any of the voting teenie-boppers knows who Lionel Ritchie is. Now, Bruno Mars! He woulda pulled in some viewers, Katy Perry may bring some viewers, but I think she has turned off more than she has won over. But, it could go very well, or it could go very bad. Hopefully they fixed what was broken before, because if not, the bus won’t leave the station.

I did a little poking around and found Tony Jackson’s cover of Jones’ Grand Tour. The way he did it was interesting. Most people do some Jones-nastics when they cover his songs, sort of a sign that they are in the Jones fan club. He chose to sing it straight up as if it was his own song. Nice job. I also found that his agent is Jimmy Dean’s widow and another apparently well known agent, Jim Della Croce who doesn’t seem to be related to the late Jim Croce. He’s on the right track.
You have to look everywhere except the radio to find good music in the Country genre, but it’s out there.
There is a young woman I have taken notice of that has a heart for traditional country music. Her name is Teea Goans and she does a lot of good covers, some original music that is distinctly traditional country as well as some gospel. She befriended the late great Jim Reeves before his death, worked for him a while, performed some of his songs on a tribute show for him (also one for Bill Anderson and another for Merel Haggard) and has recorded several songs from Reeves as well as the others mentioned. There are many of her videos on you tube going back to 2009 through the present. Here is one of them:
Another young man who is doing classic country is Mo Pitney. He has a really nice voice. The introduction in this video is pretty funny as well.
I’ve had the same thought about Miley winning. I’ll hope you are wrong if you’ll hope I’m wrong! Keisha has a nice voice. It would be could if she could of made the country transition but it wasn’t working for me. She would have been better off singing straight up R&B or better define her style as a country artist and sing country songs. As you can see from what Teea is doing, there are a lot of good songs out there that can be given another walk around the block.
The thing about Lionel is the experience he has as a member of a group, a solo artist, a writer and a producer. No one knew who Simon was when Idol first aired. As we have seen before, these judges have to sell themselves by demonstrating their knowledge of the subject in a way that is trustworthy yet entertaining. There have been some very talented and successful people who have sat in those chairs and sounded like morons trying to judge contestants in real time. I hope they will stay away from Facebook, Twitter and not have artist performing just because they are friends of Ryan. Bring back past Idol notables to perform every week. Old fans will tune in just for that.

I knew I couldn’t be the only one! I’ve always had a lot of respect for Joni Mitchell both as a singer and a musician. Addison described her as a folk singer, and while that’s true, I would call her a folk / rock singer with a heavy jazz influence. And this kid does justice to her songs and even manages to make them her own. I have to be honest, the later part of that song when it just seemed to flow out of her brought tears to eyes.

Wow, Gene, I loved both of them, especially Mo…what a find! Wouldn’t it have been great being a fly on the wall in that room? I’ve never been to Nashville, but it is one of my bucket list entries. I can only imagine the “undiscovered” talent that fills the streets and honky tonks throughout that city.
I too hope I am wrong about a Miley win…I can assure you, if she wins, the fix is in. Like you said, others who have had to sing for the instant save, charted above her.

I’ve always followed “links” in music to find new artist. Not internet links but things like label mates, who has writers in common, back up singers, musicians in common and on and on. There is a lot more information available nowadays but, in the spirit of spending the day in a record store reading album covers, Teea and Mo have something in common as well. A guy named Larry Black who is the guy behind the counter at “Larry’s Country Dinner” in the Teea Goan’s video. That’s a program that airs on a cable network called RFD TV. It has all sorts of horsemanship, rodeo, farming, tractor and music programming. Larry’s show is old school with a live audience sitting around in this dinner-like set where they can actually order food. All of the shows sponsors are in the audience and Larry talks with them about there products from cowboy boots to chicken and then he has a musical guest, many of which are A listers. You may have noticed how good the sound quality is on this show and also the old boy playing guitar and dressed like a Sheriff is actual one of the top session men in Nashville. I find it relaxing to watch a simple show like that.
Larry Black is a video producer (Angel Productions) and as such he has produced a whole family of videos call “Country’s Family Reunion” as well as several tribute programs for popular older, or recently deceased artist. Late night you will see one and two hour segments of these multi hour videos air as a form of advertisement for the DVD set, much like Time Life music CDs. It was on one of the tribute videos that Mo Pitney appeared. Teea has also been on a few of the tribute videos.
It was on these shows that I first saw the two of them. I have since purchased all of Teea’s CDs except the one that just came out. It has a song on it that Teea and her grandmother wrote when she was a young girl. It’s a simple little gospel ditty called “I Know the Lord Will Stand By Me”. She performed it on one of Larry’s videos called “Wednesday Night Service” that was really good. She had all of the old veterans singing along and tearing up. Good stuff. You can see a lot of this stuff on You Tube but it usually lacks the introductions and conversation.
Mo’s introduction was a hoot, wasn’t it? That was Junior Brown sitting next to him in the white hat. He is another hoot.
The Queby Sisters are another one of interest. Three clean cut sisters in their 20’s I guess who all sing and play fiddle in a western swing style sort of like Bob Wills or Asleep at the Wheel. I think each of them has been named Fiddle Champion of some sort as individuals.
Marty Stewart also keeps the older stuff alive and has had a show on RFD that is much like the old Porter Wagoner show. Simple, old school. Top guest. It’s like a time machine. Pretty neat.
The suspense is killing me. I thought Chloe had the Voice sewn up until I read through some of the iTunes standings over the season. Addison may have been more consistent over the season. It’s ironic that Charlie Puth is going to be a guest on the show that kicked out his You Tube duet partner!

My area is slowly adding venues for local artists, we have quite a few local bands and artists who are pretty good. We have an old hotel that houses music on their lawn, they bring in a symphony each summer, I have yet to get the hubby to attend with me, it may need to be me and my son whom makes the trek back this year and leave mr. un-enthused in his recliner. My son has a pretty eclectic taste in music, he now is sampling rockabilly artists, it’s pretty funny hearing some of my old tunes on his playlist. I just hum along and don’t say a word.

Hey,I like the tractor shows too! You would probably enjoy some of the horsemanship programs. There is an Australian guy who is a really good instructor.
Our symphony used to do a series called Pops in the Park years ago when my daughters were little girls. You could throw a blanket out, let the kids take the fresh air and play and enjoy the music. It was surprising how into the music and the sounds of the different instruments the kids were.
If he keeps following those Rockabilly roots, he will discover the Blues one day. The other direction takes you to Celtic music I believe.
