This week, the Top 8 singers will perform for your votes. Each artist will attempt to reach the top 10 on iTunes in order to receive a vote multiplier. The three contestants with the fewest votes will get a second chance to perform again for the Instant Save, with the loser leaving the competition.

The Voice Season 8 Top 8/Semi-Finals
The Top 8 singers in this competition are Chris Blue , Brennley Brown, Vanessa Ferguson, Jesse Larson, Tsoul, Lilli Passero, Hunter Plake, and Aliyah Moulden pictured above.

And for the first time, the singers will be paired and perform competitive duets which will be voted on via overnight twitter hashtags. Lord help me. There has to be a better way.  Tweet, tweet, tweet. I miss the good ole days of the telephone. I don’t know why. I just do. Indulge me here.

The Voice airs Monday May 15th and Tuesday May 16th on NBC at 8:00 PM.  Please share your thoughts in the comments section. As I am not a regular viewer of The Voice, y’all are the MCL judges here. MasterClass away.

  1. MCL, its Lauren instead of Lilli…😃

I predict Lauren, Brennley, Chris and Aliyah top four 🤗

  2. i loved all the duets tonight.

and jesse larson was my favorite solo performance.

vanessa ferguson looks so much better now. before she had this dark sort of presence that was off putting for me, even though her voice is good.

  3. Jesse was good tonight. I enjoied Aliyah in her duet but not as much in her solo. The arrangement and presentation weren’t great but she sang well. I like Aliyah but I think Hunter may have a better shot than she does of making the final. Lauren was good as expected but I didn’t like her duet. Gwen’s advice hurt Brennley. Her natural presentation was among her better qualities but that was out the window tonight. I’m suprised that Vanessa hasn’t gotten more traction this season.
They make strange choices of who they attribute songs to on this show. There were many odd ones tonight.

  4. gene! glad you are here. i wonder if it is possible that the reason vanessa didn’t get as much traction is that ‘darkness’ that i felt around her…i had this feeling of ‘not wanting to get close’. i feel she has a bit more openness now.

  5. I’m not sure if I noticed her during the dark period that you spoke of Hunter. When I began to notice her she seemed like a ringer. She presented as a finished project, a professional who is ready to go to work tommorow. She has a strong sense of personal style in both her music and her appearance. I thought she would be a strong contender for the big microphone. I didn’t like the rap number that she did a few weeks ago but she has demonstrated decent taste in music. I think she would bennifit from expanding her knowledge of original source material, so she can draw inspiration from many artist instead of just listening to one and spinning it a little. She and Chris are splitting any votes that might come their way from Alicia fans, and they may appeal to the same voter to some extent. Chris seems to have paved a path to the final round but I’m guessing that Vanessa has not.

  6. Hunter and Gene,

I agree with you both in regards to Vanessa; she had a stand-offish manner about her in the beginning and for that reason I didn’t give her a second listen, however, last night in her duet with Chris, my ears said she out sang him, and sounded really good doing so. I too think it is to late to earn her a spot in the final four. I stand by my four predictions, even with Brennley not charting as well as in the past.

What do you guys think of Jennifer Hudson taking Alicia’s seat this Fall? Miley returns as well.

  7. Vonnie,
Vanessa was very good in the duet, and their duet was the best of the night. Chrris’ entry into the duet was good. The first words he sang were strong, in good tone and distinctly him. It was better than anything he had done prior to that. I agree that Vanessa was better over all, probably by design in a last ditch effort to safe her. I think she will find her way in the music industry.

I think I would prefer Jennifer Hudson to Alicia based on my own perceptions. I don’t follow the gossip / entertainment media very much, so if she has any major transgressions on her record, I’m unaware of it. Is that your suggestion or is Jennifer in line for the job?

  8. Hi Gene,

Jennifer is set to join The Voice this Fall and Kelly Clarkson in the Spring. I wonder if the Voice isn’t working overtime to wrap up any would be judges before the new Idol reboot?

I thought Chris and Vanessa’s duet was the best of the night too, and strangely, Jessie and TSoul was my next best.

I still think Lauren will win! 💕😃

  9. Thank you Vonnie for the information on the judges! I was always an advocate for Kelly as a judge on Idol but having seen her judging on a few shows now, I’m a little mixed. She did show a lot of heart when she guest judged on Idol when she was expecting. You are probably spot on with the speculation about the timing.

I thought the Beards could have had a better song choice but I liked them too. TSoul has grown on me. He is so likable and I get a kick out of he and Blake together. I still prefer Jessie when he sings and plays but that might not have been fair for a duet.

I still think Lauren will win too.

  10. My favorites are still Jesse and Chris. Much prefer them to the two country females. But I think you’re right that Lauren will probably win.

  14. ITunes proved to be predictive this week.

I like Aliyah (good call Vonnie) on stage but her recordings aren’t good. I can see her with Mouse ears on.

Jesse made very good song choices this week, especially tonight. Both songs were by Chris Stapleton who owns the Country Soul lane and “Tennessee Whiskey” was a huge hit for George Jones, who will always have a place in fans hearts. By doing so, he grabbed some of the country voters as well as people who just like him, not to mention the folks that might feel sorry for Adam and think he may need some love and support after the awful rap thing he unleashed on us tonight!

    Not a bad group.

  15. I actually thought Hunter sang better tonight, crazy! The bad thing with the instant save, only those who have twitter and those who live on the east coast gets to vote. I would have rather they just announced the fourth one, not that the outcome would have been disappointing, but the votes by the audience as a whole seems like it should matter more! Oh well, off we go to another finale!

Ha, Gene, I was going by the iTunes standings from last night with Aliyah. 😂🙃

  16. I agree with you about the voting. I was complaining about twitter earlier in the season when they had a live vote via twitter. It apeared to be nothing more than a marketing tool for twitter. I refuse to tweet.

I think Jesse was sitting fourth on iTunes at the end of voting, so at least this time the twitter vote matched the iTunes count.

The online voting system is very civilized compared to the old Idol phone only method. If they are looking for an indication of marketability, they should go with iTunes sales.

  17. It’s almost midnight Wednesday and Lauren Dusky is still at number 6 on the iTunes chart. I don’t recall anyone remaining in the top ten a full day after the results show. Has anyone else seen this before?

Chris is hanging at 12, Aliyah 41, and Jesse at 54

Craig Wayne Boyd. I have to confess, I remembered he had three names, like some guy who has gone off his meds and done a bad, bad thing. I also remembered one of those names is Wayne. That’s where I hit the wall and had to look it up.

She and Chris remain in the top 200.

Sorry for the delayed response. I took a little road trip to see ZZ Top. Great show!

  21. chuckling at you, gene. yes, craig wayne boyd. 🙂 wow, good for you, zz top, especially since it was a great show.

although i think chris is a really good singer and performer, his songs before were never up that high on the chart so i was surprised to see him in the top four. i think it was totally song choice this time around.

  22. so i’ll write a little of what i wrote the other night that didn’t get posted (probably due to me doing something in error).

so the night of the big cutting from eight to four i was on the computer. i wasn’t paying attention to the time.

i decided to check ‘the news’..and part of that checking was to check twitter.

lo and behold, it must have been exactly during the twitter save (which i too absolutely can’t stand), because a couple tweets came through saying #save jesse #save hunter #save brimmley. i thought, ‘ohhhh noooo, i don’t want to be spoiled’. however, since i was right there, right then, i thought, i’ve got to participate.

i had no idea who had gone through, and who hadn’t, but i knew that my favorite the night before was jesse, so i posted several #save jesse tweets.

i noticed that #save jesse was trending.

when i watched the show, i found it interesting that jesse was way ahead of the other two which definitely showed up on twitter when i was there.

i’m surprised that hunter didn’t make the final four since he’d had sooooo many charting songs on itunes for so long. yes, his songs didn’t chart as high this last few weeks, but i thought that he probably had piled up past votes. but no, that apparently wasn’t the case.

  23. Hunter,
I was also suprised that Hunter didn’t make the cut given his past performance in the voting and iTunes sales. If he had made the cut, he may well have won after the counted those sales agin toward his season toal. I believe Jesse’s twitter votes came close to equaling the other two combined. Thanks for tweeting for Jesse. He was the pick of the litter.

I have lost post as you did. If you think to do it, you can “copy” your post before posting and if it disapears you can just “paste” it in and try again.

Yeah, we stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel on or ZZ trip, a first for me. They have tons on artist memoribila everywhere. The neetest feature for me was that you can pick from a catalog of Fender guitars and they will deliver the one of your choice with an amp and headphones free of charge. They pick it up again on check out day. How cool is that?

  24. Did anyone watch the Billboards last night…all that I could think, was what has happened to music? Am I getting old? Do I sound like my parents and grand parents and so on? Will they let just anybody make a record now? 🙁 I went to bed, I couldn’t listen anymore!

  25. Vonnie – I didn’t watch it but I feel the same way regarding today’s music.

yes, i should have copied my post that got lost in the ethers. wow, so it has happened to you too! i do copy them, sometimes, but just didn’t this time unfortunately.

what is interesting on my twitter feed: the person who tweeted ‘save jesse’ is a big known guy (in news circles, not entertainment circles). he seems to have the same taste i do. i’m surprised when i see that it is him tweeting (saving someone) from The Voice.

  28. Vonnie,
I didn’t watch it either but I’m not suprised. I usually don’t watch award shows because of that. The only way to go is record it and FF to edit out the garbage.

  30. Lesson learned, I don’t usually watch them either, I wanted to see Celine, but bailed, I left in such a hurry that I didn’t even hit the record button. I figure it will be on YouTube eventually.

I kept thinking, what happened to being able to sing live, in tune, without technical help or lip syncing! The concerts that I went to back in the day, the artists sounded like they did on the vinyl or 8track 😂😃

I see why these kids from the Voice don’t make it mainstream, they can sing!!!

  31. Let’s see if I remember correctly, 8 track sounded pretty good until you hit the eject button and the cartridge popped out of the tape deck… and the tape stayed inside!

It’s a good thing Celine made hers years ago. If she had come along today she would have been a featured artist on a rap song, never to be seen again because she can’t lip sync.
