About Masterclass Lady
Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

Which actually translates to “Grammy-winning songs we happen to have performance rights to,” so while it’s not much of a theme, it’s more restrictive than you’d think, although not stylistically.

Trent…Whaaat! My favorite of the night!
Dalton…has a great voice, but needs to get away from the boy band vibe and do something different. Maybe a ballad!?!?!?

Dalton: I don’t know what the judges were hearing, I thought Dalton sounded great–it was good to see that when he chops off notes it’s because he wants to, not because he has to!–and intense. (I do agree that I love hearing his rearrangements, and we didn’t get that this week–but he’s still got that flu/sinus infection, and it didn’t show in his voice, so I’ll give him a pass on the rearranging this time!)
Lee Jean: His voice always surprises me–he looks so young, and his voice just doesn’t sound like that! But yeah, JLo has a point–he definitely can use tons more practice. He was having trouble singing and moving at the same time–he was a little shaky in the first part, but he didn’t really hit sour notes until he started moving around. And for me, it didn’t sound like he was connected to the lyrics.
Sonika: …I didn’t hear any angry at all in the verse. And maybe it was too low for her? She sounded better in the chorus, but not really angry. I think that was a bad song choice for her, and it’s a pity because I love her voice so much.
Mackenzie: Right, if someone was going to take on a Whitney Houston song he was a good person to do it because he sounds so very different that there’s no direct comparison. It sounded very odd to me that he was singing the harmony on the chorus and no one was singing the melody, but that gentle take on the song, I liked that.
La’Porsha: …I thought it was a bit boring? That could be the song which I don’t know and I didn’t like all that much. Or maybe I just expected more? In any case, her voice is big and she’s in control of it which is amazing, but I just felt not engaged tonight.
Trent: I love how Trent can reach those high notes so cleanly, but I thought the song tonight was just a touch too high. Not that he can’t reach the higher notes–he can, clearly!–but I thought too much of it wasn’t in the richest part of his voice, which is just a tad lower. (He had just a little of that near the end, mmm hmm… ) That was really good.
Tristan:Yay! She went back to playing at the piano, there’s audition!Tristan back again! She was a tiny bit shaky at the beginning but boy, that was a very, very good song choice for her and she sounded lovely.
Avalon: I say this every time–I don’t like the songs she sings, but I like them a lot more when she sings them, which is a gift she has for sure. And she has such a lovely easy style. (But I still don’t like the songs, so there. 😉 )
Olivia: Oh, dear, this was a terrible song choice for her. …Really, a very bad song choice for her. (And that ending just proved that she is not La’Porsha, which we knew already.)
Gianna…should have taken the judges advice on song choice. (Maybe Katy Perry’s Roar? But not this.)

Dalton not his best. Poor kid like Olivia last week he is very sick. Also like Olivia given the death spot.
So sad to see Olivia go would have saved her.
I am not on the LaPorcha or Trent finale train. They can sing yes but neither are marketable stars.
Mac was good.
I think Tristen is the chosen one.

OMG NONONO! According to MJ’s (https://twitter.com/mjsbigblog/status/705601850578444288), next week’s theme is (da da da): “the Top Six will sing the AMERICAN IDOL Songbook, featuring the most-performed songs from past seasons of AMERICAN IDOL.”
Which is pretty much the exact opposite of what anyone at all wants to hear.

Olivia shouldn’t have been in the bottom three. Then her song choice wouldn’t have mattered as much. She can sing, and she can perform, and she should have gone further.

I was really surprised to see Olivia go. Thought sure she would be on til close to the end. My favorite performances of the night were La’Porsha (gave me chills), Trent, Tristan, and Avalon. I was quite surprised by Tristan’s voice tonight–much better than last week. And I am always pleasantly surprised with Avalon’s performances. I like MacKenzie, Dalton, etc., but just not as happy with their performances tonight.

I must admit, I did like Tristan tonight…stop the press!
Dalton needs to stop overthinking the competition and do what he does best. I think he could win the whole thing if he starts being himself. JLo’s comments only reinforced his fears!

My top eight,
Trent – loved that song for him, he sounded great!
Avalon – her voice is like silk to my ears!
Dalton – while I did not love his song choice, I love his voice! Kings of Leon shreds that song, and I kept hearing Caleb Followill’s voice on the song!
Tristan – I know, believe me, no one is as shocked as I am! I didn’t hear that Carrie Underwood thing tonight, just her voice, she can sing country without that “thing” I don’t know what to call it. But, very good song choice and performance!
Sonika – I love her voice, that said, her performances feel forced. I think she is confusing movement for emotion!
MacKenzie – gosh I love this kid, but I am afraid he is going to sound the same each week no matter what! I want to see him step away from the mic stand and lose the guitar! I think on his current path he is going to be overshadowed by the bigger voices!
Lee – I like his voice, but I think he fits the same critique that I gave MacKenzie!
LaPorsha – nothing about her performance worked for me, the whole thing from wardrobe to staging was cheesy!
This week, I thought it was bad seeing two go, next weeks gonna be harder! I don’t like the judges choosing who goes home! Even if it is still two going, it should be on votes! However, I guess this helps the judges set the stage for their winner!

I don’t care for Avalon at all. Last night was her best performance but the music she is interested in plus the gansta grabbing her …. think looks dumb when guys do it and even dumber when girls do.
Triston must be physic because I have been thinking about her song choice since Kelly Clarkson’s performance last week and haven’t had the time to post on the other thread about it. I can think of four times where I have seen a singer be overwhelmed by the personal, emotional content of the song they were singing. Personally I don’t know how anyone sings songs of that sort without breaking down but the ones that come to mind were, Kelly Clarkson herself when she sang her coronation song and became verclipsed, Kellie Pickler singing a song that she co-wrote about her mother abandoning her (I Wonder) at the CMA awards show in 8 or 10 years ago, Vince Gill singing the song that he wrote for his brother’s funeral which has become sort of a funeral anthem. He was singing Go Rest High with Patty Lovelace at the funeral of George Jones and the emotion of the situation hit him and he began to sob as he sang and Patty and his guitar carried the rest of the song. I developed a new respect for Garth Brooks when he stood from his seat, placed his hat firmly over his heart and showed solidarity with his friend Vince. My allergies kicked in about then and my eyes began to water. This is the song that Kirstan sang this week, so while I was glad to see her return to a better style for her and give a decent performance, it came up a little short for me, having seen it performed many times by Vince and many other artist. Finally, there was Kelly’s recent performance on Idol. She attributed it to being pregnant but I would attribute it, like the others, to being human. Well done Kelly.
I’m really bummed that Olivia was cut by this ridiculous elimination scheme. It was obvious after Avalon sang that they had already chosen her. As long as you don’t think it’s a competition, it’s entertaining I guess.

Gene, I agree with your take on Avalon and the gangsta thing! I was thinking last night, how the should play dress up with her; a long red dress, hair done up, give her a jazz song and see what happens! Sometimes change is not a bad thing!
Watching last night and watching the Voice this week, Idol did kinda feel like open mic at Joe’s Coffee House and Truck Stop!

Maybe they should have a sing along night to see what contestants can really get the audience involved – We Gotta Get out of This Place, We Ain’t Gonna Take it, God Bless the USA, YMCA, Bad Moon Rising
