Did anyone catch Andrea Bocelli’s glorious and inspiring performance of The Lord’s Prayer during the Festival Of The Families celebration on Saturday, September 26th in Phildaelphia?
What a moment! Pope Francis must have been incredibly moved by this performance as we were by the Pope’s love, presence and spirituality throughout his entire USA visit. During this celebration, the Pope’s passionate and spontaneous message about the importance of the family really resonated with me and I shall never, ever forget it.
Then, you add the magnificence of Andrea Bocelli’s voice and the entire event took on an ethereal quality and, for me, was the closest thing to what Heaven must be like – where time stands still and you truly live in the beauty of the moment for eternity.
I always love listening to Andrea sing but, more important, his relaxed, yet refined technical skills draw me in each time I hear him. His relaxed and open jaw, the circular mouth, the elevated eyes as he navigates his upper range are impeccably executed.
I always wondered if his visual impairment frees him of visual distractions, thus allowing him to truly focus on his voice.
To that end, I have encouraged students to sing with their eyes closed during their lessons with me and it is amazing how much better they do sing. They naturally correct their technical problems. It is a wonderful little trick and everyone should try it. You become very aware of your vocal sound and the diaphragmatic energy you are using to correctly produce this sound.
Please share your comments about this performance. Did it move you as it did me?
although i didn’t watch this, my twitter was alive with the fact that aretha franklin was going on and on and on and never looked at or acknowledged the pope. twitter was not impressed. did you happen to see that?

Yes, Hunter, I did. It was awful. Not one nod in the direction of the Pope and her singing was a major out of tune scream fest. I have no idea why they asked her to perform. She has lost it.

Disappointing re: Aretha but I think her glory days are WAY behind her anyway. Andrea was magnificent!! His singing is so simple and yet so profound. Way to go!!

There is no one on this earth that has such a beautiful voice as this Andre does…. He literally put this man to tears…… What was taken from him was his eye sight but his voice was a heavenly gift from the Lord……
