Okay – I am finally getting the hang of the layout of this show this season. It was tricky getting in to the groove of a performance/results show in one night, but I am getting accustomed to this new format. The times they are a-changing!
I came home late last evening and had to view the performances online. I have to say that there are some very interesting and unique artists on that stage this season. The mix of singers is so diverse and the singers – for the most part – seem very refined, possessing a true vision of where they wish to take their artistry.
I am still missing Savion – he deserved to be part of this Top 12 but, with the exception of young Daniel, the most interesting singers prevailed and deserve to be chosen as Finalists. Daniel is very talented but, honestly, he would have been wise to sit out a year or two and then come back. He needs to ripen a bit. However, he is very musical and there is no disputing this fact. If mentored properly, he will have a very successful musical career.
Eleven of the singers – featured below – will sing Party Songs on Thursday Evening. They are:
- Clark Beckham
- Daniel Seavey
- Nick Fradiani
- Rayvon Owen
- Quaasim Middleton
- Jax
- Joey Cook
- Maddie Walker
- Sarina-Joi Crowe
- Tyanna Jones
- Adanna Duru
- Quentin Alexander
I believe that, since Adanna and Quentin were Wild Card picks, one of these two singers may be in danger and I think it will be Adanna. Quentin gave a strong performance of Royals last evening and fully redeemed himself. Adanna ran into problems – was very over-pumped and it adversely affected the performance.
American Idol Top 11 Show airs on Thursday, March 12th at 8:00 PM on Fox.
I am on vacation but hope to start writing Vocal Masterclass articles next week.
I value your input everyone so comment away and share your thoughts.
I enjoyed Rayvon.
MCL, did you know that Ryan Seacrest’s grandmother died last week? I never knew that she resided her entire 91 years in a nearby town to my home.

Love, love love Clark. His performance tonight brought back memories of Taylor Hicks when he sang “Takin’ it to the Streets.”

Tyanna is SO cool! Love that girl!!!

I thought party songs night was rather I-dull. Lackluster performers.

I really hope that Scott Borchetta isn’t going to” un-Jax” Jax. His comments and that performance really worried me. Tyanna and Joey were delightful.

Hey everyone. Thank you so much for your comments. I am officially in love with Tyanna. She has the whole package happening there – from the superb vocals, to her incredible and seamless performing ability, to her beautiful personality and current vibe. Everyone else is tied for 2nd place in my eyes.

I love Tyanna’s tone and her energy but my ear finds her a bit sharp. Is it just me? I like Jax but she doesn’t enunciate well. Other favourites are Clark, Quentin, and Rayvon.

Oksana – she has a very bright sound. Lots of ring. She may sound sharp because of it but she was spot on last evening.
It is a great group this season.

While I am relieved Idol is live again and has expanded back to a longer time frame, I feel that combining results and performances is not working. The nerves a contestant feels are doubled. They are anticipating a performance and a possible elimination. It shows in the performances.

Ha, MCL! The only two people I threw 20 votes to last night were Tyanna, definitely out in front for me–and, in a close second, Joey. (Joey’s too niche to win, I think–and she needs to stop clutching her hair while singing!–but she can have a solid indy career. Interesting voice, interesting arrangements, and I love how she spills joy all over the stage!)
A few other thoughts:
I was very sorry to see Sarina-Joi go because she has a beautiful voice and knows how to sing with restraint without fading into the background.
Qaasim shouldn’t try to highlight his singing abilities because they aren’t all that good. Yes, that was the best I’ve heard him sing so far–and that’s the problem. And yes, he’s an A++ high-energy performer–but he can’t put together a whole show of high-energy songs, he’ll exhaust the audience, so I don’t know.
I get so nervous when Daniel sings, wondering if his voice will crack–he’s immensely talented, his arrangements are mature beyond his years, he’s a joyous stage presense, and he’s cute as a button–but he needs a few years to let his voice settle and to get some weight behind his vocals.

Oh! I forgot to say that I did love how Qaasim leapt to hug each person as they were called safe–and how he really seemed to be thrilled every time. 🙂

Hey ReReader and all!!!
Tyanna is the bomb! Totally. She rules this season and I am saying this with the utmost respect to her fellow contestants – all of whom are immensely talented.
Her performances appear so effortless and genuine – like there is no thought process happening there. Yet – there is. I think it is called technique. Plus she prepares extremely well.
The audience responded to her more openly than any other singer last evening.
I also love Clark and, in the real world, they would be my TOP 2. But, it is too early in the competition and anything can happen.
Also – I wish they would eliminate the contestants at the top of the show. These singers would perform so much better. This is nonsense!

I think we may have a few surprises in store from Qaasim. 👏What a sweetheart.

YES! So much this.

If Daniel had tried out for the Voice, I very highly doubt he would have made it past the blind auditions.

MCL, I think Quentin is the most unique artist in years. His look isn’t resonating with stodgy idol voters, but he has star quality. Also as Ryan never says this is your bottom 3, we really do not know who is in the bottom.

Ryan hasn’t been announcing the phone numbers either. And they haven’t given any recaps at the end of the show.

Well, I’m officially in love with Joey. She did a great job with “Fancy.” It doesn’t matter that the arrangement came from Postmodern Jukebox (with whom I’m also officially in love), that was a hard thing to pull off. After that performance you could see her bloom with confidence; I think we’ll see some of the nerves disappear in the future. I hope she doesn’t allow anyone to get in the way of her bubbly personality though. I do think the hair grab is a habit, not an affectation. I think she proved she can be relevant.
