About Masterclass Lady
Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

DWTS was a huge disappointment! I have seen the judges biased before but last night was pathetic!

We had continuous weather coverage on the local channels due to tornados in the state so I didn’t get to see The Voice or DWTS. I did get to see Bate’s Motel which was another good one. When this has happened in the past on Idol night, the weatherman would say repeatedly that American Idol will be aired in it’s entirety after the storm coverage. As much as we like The Voice, it still doesn’t generate the must see TV addiction that Idol does.
Based on the performance trajectory from last week, I wood guess Jake and Bria may be at the bottom of the heap, but that’s just a guess.
I heard there were some injuries on DWTS, Winnie Cooper, Amy, Max and Meryl’s names were all mentioned on the injury list. What was the issue you mentioned with the judging Vonnie?

I had a chance to watch the performances on you Tube and really enjoyed Delvin. “Bright Lights” by Gary Clarke probably doesn’t roll off everybody’s tongue but he is one of the few current artist on the blues charts and is making a name for himself as a guitarist as well. Delvin rocked it.
I think my sight unseen choices were about right and unfortunately I think Tess Boyer may join them in the bottom three through no fault of her own.
I think Josh is the early leader at this stage of the game.

I’m not sure what Vonnie is referring to about the judge’s showing bias on DWTS. I’m guessing that Vonnie and I must have different favorites this season.

LOL Louise, I don’t have any favorites this year on DWTS, oddly that is a first too! In doing so it has enhanced my hearing, LOL. I think the judges favorites are Amy and Meryl…nothing wrong with that, but I think Charlie is doing as good. James, Danika and shoot what’s her name, full house girl are all doing really well too! While I appreciate Amy and I love Derek; it is an inspiration to us all that she is out there dancing, but……

gene, i love delvin. by this i mean that i also love his personality. i am so glad that he ‘quit’ his red mohawk. blake especially voiced this to him, but i’m sure the stylists did too, and i’m glad he listened. gene i hope you got to see the ENTIRE delvin performance…when he appeared to be finished, but then continued. there was a great interchange with the judges about that too.

I did get to see all of Devin’s performance at the Voice site. They have that site so junked up that it doesn’t stream reliably though so I ended up going to You Tube for most of the other performances. You don’t get the mentor session, the intro or the judges reaction there.
I’m glad to see the “lobster roll” retired as well. It was on par with Kat’s lip ring for me.
The song really suited him so much better than what he has done to date. I wondered if the ending was planned or just a burst of enthusiasm. It was good stuff though. He may be the dark horse in the competition if he can connect with a few more songs like he did on this one.
I didn’t want to see Tess go at this point. I think they have done her wrong in several ways but Kat was the clear winner of the sing off so I’m glad the twits got it right.

I see what you mean. I still haven’t seen this weeks performances but when you look at past seasons, the judges comments are usually on a grading curve based on the contestant’s abilities and their scores are somewhere between what the contestant earned and where the judges want to rank them.
In the case of Amy, I don’t really know what is the right thing to do. She actually out dances maybe 2/3s of the field and the rest of her score comes from her extraordinary circumstances. I think it will have to come from her that she be judged in the same way as her piers or the judges will continue to score her higher than the totality of her performance would warrant.
I think they do favor Meryl, but hey, so do I. She is very good. If James is the guy with Peta, I would put he and Charley on the same level, but just a fuzz behind Meryl. All three of them have excellent partners. Danica is by herself just below them. Amy probably slots in at this level and “Full House” girl is behind her. She is holding herself back though. In a fair competition, I think any of the top four are contenders for the win.
I don’t recall a season like this where so many contestants had a legitimate shot at the win. Meryl and Charley have an advantage in that they are world champion level competitors and their usual discipline is in an area where they do very expressive body movements. Amy is also a world class competitor but I’m not sure that her competitors are all equally matched. I don’t know if James or Danica have previous dance experience, but if not, I would rate them at pretty darn impressive.

I agree with your comments about DWTS, especially Gene’s ranking. I honestly am torn about Amy. I saw Cheryl being interviewed after Drew was eliminated, and she said that she thought that the win would go to either Meryl or Amy. But I also think that Charlie and James have had moments of greatness. Danica is quite good also. And Candance has had a couple of pretty good performances too. Meryl is my favorite and I’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t win if she continues to perform as she has the last couple of weeks. I especially thought her tango with Maks was magnificent!!!!! In all of the seasons, Maks has never won and I hope this is his year.
But, while I am favoring Meryl, I can also see why it would be wonderful for Amy to win. It is absolutely remarkable what she is able to do!!!!!!! And I’m not sure any of the pros besides Derek would be able to work with her so well. He is a spectacular choreographer.
As for Charlie, I think he’s terrific and love watching him dance, but one of the things missing for him is that there just isn’t any chemistry between Charlie and his pro. And that is not his fault.
But there is certainly chemistry between Peta and James. Whew!!!!! In fact, my adult daughter who never watches the show, was at my house on Monday evening for the beginning of DWTS, and was a little embarrassed watching their dance. She asked how parents could allow their young kids to watch this show! 🙂
In the beginning of the season, I thought there was a lot of chemistry between Val and Danica, but not so much any more, although she has a lot of ability. And Mark is struggling with Candace, I think. But I really give her credit for hanging in there and doing as well as she is doing.
This has been the most enjoyable season for DWTS that I have seen in a long while!!!

Now for my comments about The Voice. Do you think they call the people who are saved in the order of their number of votes?
I was actually surprised to see Kat in the bottom three last night, but glad she was saved.
Song choice is so important for all of these contestants because at this point, it’s anyone’s game. There is a lot of really good talent remaining.
I happen to love Josh’s voice. But I also love Kristen’s voice too. But this week, I thought Christina was really good the first time I saw it, but when I watched it again, I wasn’t quite as impressed. And I though Josh’s voice seemed a little weak. Was it his microphone???

Monday night put Amy into a different light for me, her dance was not a lot more than one would do at a wedding Reception and then the complaining and crying because she can’t meet the needs of her boyfriend coupled with the awkwardness of the camera going from her to him…she snowboards!!! I love Derek he is my absolute favorite and I think he is phenomenal…I do think they have a less is more thing going and are getting great scores for it! I love that she is out there doing what she is doing and she is an inspiration to anyone who may find themselves in a position of life changing experiences! Bravo to her for that! Meryl and Charlie are not only dancing they are skating too, I have not heard one complaint, others have been away from husbands boyfriends/girlfriends…Amy has a huge opportunity here!!!!!!!
Louise, I must admit that maks has never been one of my favorites ~ Nah! You don’t say? ~ No, really, I have always found him to be rough and arrogant!!! LOL
But this year I am enjoying him, his choreography and watching him for the first time really dig his partner! He and Meryl are amazing and I love to watch them dance…I guess I would be disappointed if she was not holding the mirror ball…
I loved Charlie’s cane dance, I thought it was superb…I think Peta may be leading James down a road that could have send him home! He is a really good dancer and anyone with eyes knows the boy is well, all that!!!! There is a fine line, and she is crossing it in leaps! Yes! Charlie and his partner does not have very good chemistry! But that boy is so graceful and fun to watch!
Danika and Candice are both putting so much effort into each week, and I hands down completely understand Candice’s perfection thing, it is horrible!
Poor Tony, can’t say that I am not happy to see NeNe go home, but Tony always ends up with the short end of the stick! But that said, I loved the group dance and thought they should have scored a lot higher than they did.

it was planned. they alluded to ‘what to do’ when they were doing the coaching. and then after the performance adam talked about it with carson. adam said carson was coming out and he’d hoped carson wouldn’t stop (interupt) delvin from finishing the planned ending to the performance. delvin seems to be a natural entertainer. and he certainly seems to care a lot about his fellow contestants. i really like him. not to mention that voice.
for me, tess just never distinguished herself.
and bria. what a shame. gene you were entirely right in your comments of last week. in this week judge’s critique of bria’s performance adam addressed that ‘we weren’t getting the real bria’. she teared up. it was usher’s attempt at making bria more well rounded, but in doing that it was taking away the bria that we wanted to experience and that we did experience in that very first ‘blind’ performance.

I agree with that sentiment completely on the emotional level. When I look at it from the purely practical side it begins to not look so good. We all agree to some extent that several dancers are outperforming Amy on the dance floor. I think each of them would except defeat gracefully, under the circumstances but I think it would begin to bother her if she wasn’t actually beating them on the floor. The other side of it is that many past contestants have stayed on weeks beyond the point that their dance talent maxed out because people liked them or identified with, or were inspired by some aspect of their life. I have a feeling that she might make a bigger splash and a louder statement by finishing in her natural pecking order than winning in what may seem to be an unfair way. She can certainly hold her head high based on what she has already accomplished. I feel strongly both ways, as they say.
I was also surprised to see Kat in the bottom three and I’m not convinced that they are truly the bottom three in the voting. I think the lowest vote getter is in the bottom three but I’m not convinced that the other two belong there.
I also noticed the low volume coming from Josh during his performance. I think it was a bad mix on his mic because his output was consistently low throughout the performance.

I may not have seen as much of Delvin’s whole presentation as I thought or I zoned out for some reason. I did see all of his stage performance, including the delayed ending, and it was very impressive. Gary Clark’s original of this song comes up just a little short for me because the song and especially the tittle are sort of a rip off (you could say homage I guess) of one of the great Blues classics, ” Bright Lights, Big City.” So at first I was surprised how much Delvin was getting out of the song. It’s a pretty simple lyric after all. He had left me short on both his AL Green cover and his “Other Guy” cover. I don’t know if he just got fired up and kicked it up a notch or if this song just suited him well but it was good. He seems to be a good guy as well.
As for Tess, I think she distinguished herself in her audition, and the two battle rounds that followed. I believe they used her to make the contestants who won the battle rounds seem better than they were. Bria is an example of that and there was another, it may have been Christina who I thought Tess bettered at that level. Since that time she hasn’t impressed much, Bria continued downward and Christina has gotten better.
It was sad to see this group of girls in the bottom three. Bria was my favorite audition but I expressed concern then that Usher may not be the best coach for her. You make a good point that he was trying to make Bria something she wasn’t, and he was also failing to rein in her excesses. I mention Tess already and Kat has grown on me week to week. She always puts everything she has into her performance but the results have yet to meet or exceed the original versions. Of the three of them, she is the only one on the uphill side of her arc.

Yes! My thoughts exactly about Amy! What she is doing is wonderful and amazing; it’s hard when the other dancers are getting beat up and putting their sweat and tears on the floor too…
