Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. 1. great show, there were some EXCELLENT performances. yikes…that LONG break with a bad mike. hopefully it will work for her rather than against her. she handled it like a pro.

i LOVE how the coaches are so excited when their team members are doing great.

the guitar player who has always worked with paul m has been appearing on idol the last few weeks. i miss him so much on the voice because i am used to seeing him there. he would have been great during kat’s song.

hmmm…there was one more quicky thing i wanted to say, and i forgot.

  6. How did Bria Kelly and Sisaundra do?

  7. MCL,
Bria did ‘Rolling in the Deep” and it was decent but I’m still not loving the direction they are going with her. Every song has to be wide open. She did manage to change the song up sufficiently to avoid the boredom of hearing the song again. She needs to rediscover the Blues soon or she won’t last long. She opened the show, BTW

Sisaundra did “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and with Blake’s advice, toned down her tendency to GO BIG on every song. Less is more should be her theme for the rest of the season because it resulted in a much better performance that was enjoyable to listen to. She seems like a very nice lady and I hope she finds the right approach to lead vocals to launch her new career.

I thought Kat Perkins had the performance of the night with Heart’s “Magic Man.” I also liked Tess Boyer. I also like Josh but I didn’t think this song did a lot for him.

I wish they would change the system so that there are no eliminations on the first night of live performances. I didn’t think anyone deserved to be sent home but Jake may have had the shakiest performance.

    Louise,
Maks and Meryl were outstanding! As good as I’ve ever seen. I think whichever judge said that she was bringing out the best in him was exactly right and that she is the first contestant to truly keep up with him.

I hope that they will make DVDs of Amy Purdy’s performances and distribute them to Orthopedic surgeons, prostheticist, military hospitals and anywhere else where people are facing life after the loss of a limb, and when they ask the doctor “what can I do” or “will I be able to” or when they say “I can’t,” just have them watch the video. Her performances this season on DWTS are the most amazing thing I have ever seen.

  8. Gene,
I agree with your comments, especially about Sisaundra. She was much better to listen to. And I also agree that Kat was one of the best–I just didn’t love the song she sang. But I still preferred Kristen’s voice, and she deserves tons of credit for continuing on when the mic went out. Jake was shaky, but he is extremely likeable so I hope he’s not eliminated tonight. He seemed very nervous. I also didn’t think Josh’s song was great, but I love his voice.

And I agree that Maks was better than ever. I’ve always, always loved to see Maks dance, and it’s GREAT being able to see him with a partner who can match his ability. Meryl is a beautiful dancer!

And your comments about Amy Purdy are spot on. She is SO inspirational!!! Even if people don’t like to watch DWTS, they should watch this season just to see her.

  9. mcl, Sisaundra ‘toned it down’, and it was magnificent. that ‘sound’ that comes out of her is wonderful. since you haven’t watched the show that much, do you know that she sang backup for celine dion?

i couldn’t remember bria kelly’s name but she is the one i was referring to who i didn’t think did that well. i’ll have to listen to her song again, however, it just wasn’t up to what i know she can do. i agree with what gene said.

  10. I really like Susaundra, Kristen, Josh, and Christina Grimme! I loved Kristen’s voice and think that she is absolutely adorable; her composure during her glitch was very deserving the four chair ovation!

I haven’t watched DWTS yet, will watch it after my run this morning!

  12. Who ever advised Kat to loose the fish hook in her lip did her a great service. She went from skanky to a decent looking gal in one fell swoop. It’s not a good idea to make choices about your appearance that come between you and the audience that you want to turn into fans. Good move Kat.

I wish they would take Bria’s guitars away from her. I will volunteer to hold them until she goes home 🙂 She doesn’t play them but rather uses them as a prop. Jake did essentially the same thing but at least it’s not uncommon for country front men to play a few chords and then concentrate on singing.

    Louise,
I agree that Kristen handled herself well in the face of a technical glitch. At first I don’t think she knew what was happening. You could tell that she lost the feed to her ear monitor but it was a bit before she could tell the mic had died. It was a shame that they couldn’t find time for her to finish the song. She was doing a good job with it up to that point.

There are several good stories coming from the DWTS show this year. You can tell that Danica really IS Winnie Cooper. A real over achiever that thrives on praise from teacher. You can see her confidence grow from week to week. Most years someone dancing at her level would be a contender for the win. Peta’s partner is very good as well. I think Meryl’s drive as a recent Olympian is waking up the Maks of old when he was a competitive ballroom dancer. Not to mention, he’s in love. She may be too. What Amy is doing is not only incredible but it’s also invaluable. We talked about how it could benefit those who unfortunately find themselves in similar circumstances but I think the bigger story is that it helps those of us in the general public desensitize to the sight of a person with a prosthetic limb. That will be a huge benefit for those who find themselves needing one. There is also the story that they seem to have successfully shifted gears into a new model for the show that has given it new life without sacrificing the most popular parts of the show. I hope by this time next year Idol will have been able to do the same thing.

Why did two go home on the Voice?

    Like

  15. They do double eliminations on the Voice. I wish they wouldn’t have an elimination at all on the first week of live performances, much less a double. They waste so much time in the early rounds and then blast through the lives. Doesn’t make sense to me.

    Like

  16. Yes, this is what I dislike about this show. Too much filler during the Battle Rounds and the Steals and then a FF when we finally have a Top 12. It is ridiculous. They wrk so hard to get to these live shows and then – boom – two are gone.

    Like

  17. That’s right. You barely know who they are before the double eliminations start.

I thought Sisaundra looked like a third (fourth) wheel during the Team Blake group number. She was basically a backup singer for the rest of them. She did a good job of finding a place to jump in and hang on but it wasn’t good for the image she is trying to build as a lead singer.

I was glad Tess got the save anyway.

  18. i felt really yucky with that instant save. i know they did it last year too and i didn’t like it then either. i feel like it is unfair. the voters already voted, why put those contestants through more of that excruciating pain of waiting. i strongly believe the instant save is just to garner publicity from twitter, nothing more.

i wanted tj to get the instant save. and i thought the blond sang beautifully, and better than tess, so, gene, i’m glad you at least, are happy with the results. 🙂 i really wanted tj, but i felt so very bad for poor chakira too. obviously i am not a happy camper with tonight’s show.

i also agree with those of you mentioning how eliminating two people at a time now is ‘strange’.

  19. i guess i’m not finished complaining about the instant save. 🙂 last year i participated. i then thought about the west coast who couldn’t vote. i thought about the fact that i’d spent a lot of time hoping jonny would be saved and it looked like his name was up so much more than the other two, but he wasn’t saved. it was then that i realized it was nothing at all about saving these kids, it was only about the publicity generated on twitter. bah humbug. 🙂

  20. The instant save is atrocious for all of the reasons you sited. It was already decided and not everyone is a “twit.”

I thought Dani was good tonight but hasn’t been consistently. TJ never interested me much Seemed like an Usher clone. Tess has been on the same ride as Josh, clearly beating her competition and then being eliminated twice. Just reality show gamesmanship. I was surprised that she as in the bottom three.

A lot of the votes at this level are noting more than a popularity poll not really based on performance.

  21. I think this show is becoming too gimmicky and all the social media stuff – particularly with Twitter – is just plain stupid and unfair to the singers. It is humiliating.

  23. the first few seasons they had that horrible whatever-her-name was rah-rahhing the twitter stuff. then i could FF through her bits. at least that wasn’t toying with the singers in an unfair manner.

I think this is the first time that I have watched from auditions to live rounds of the Voice! I have watched live rounds but never watch elimination night the same with idol, I tune in to see who goes home!

So will they eliminate 2 each week and will they do the instant save each time too?

    Like

  27. If memory serves, that is right Vonnie. The instant save was new last season. While I support the Voice’s attempt to keep it fresh and introduce new ideas and cut features that are not working, I don’t like this feature. Anyway, they go into the finale with the top three instead of the top two like Idol does.
