Do we have to take up a collection to purchase a better set design for Late Night With Seth Myers?
Have you had a peek this week? For those of you who have lives beyond a remote control, Late Night With Seth Myers had its debut Monday evening. The show looks promising but the set? How shall I put it?
Okay, I will jump right in. The set is a nightmare in every way imaginable. Used furniture – or so it seems, plain backdrop, sideway entrance for the guests, rollaway chairs for the guests so they can tip over and fall. It’s madness!
Did NBC blow their budget on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon? What gives, NBC honchos? If you need an extra couch, I have one in my basement. Truly! It’s all yours! It’ll cost ya, though, because it belonged to my parents and is an heirloom. On second thought…
It must be very difficult to create an inspiring show in such dismal surroundings. It’s as if everyone gave up before the show started.
Seth Myers, although a little stiff at the onset – and who wouldn’t be – showed incredible promise and looked immensely at ease during the interview portion of the show.
Of course, it helped that Saturday Night Live alumnus, Amy Poehler, was his first guest. The repartee between them was hilarious and, most important, genuine.
Then Vice President Joe Biden stopped by for a visit and a more incongruous trio I could not imagine. And yet, it worked! Amy, Vice President Joe Biden and Seth had a grand old time.
If their aim was to put a silly grin on my face, it worked! Kudos Team Seth! And a special shout -out to Fred Armisen and his band. Great sound!
The show ended with a passionate performance by A Great Big World. Man, that lead singer can sing!
So, NBC, let us know if we need to start a collection here or something. Or else, dig a little deeper and fix up this Set Design fiasco. There must be a “Sets Are Us” store in New York or something resembling this kind of store.
Wait – here’s an idea! Why not use Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night furniture. Or, better yet, auction it off on Ebay and make some money for a new one for Seth Meyers!
What do you think all? Did that hot mess of a set design drive you crazy or is it just me? What did you think of the show?
Comments are now open for business!!
Rosanne! I totally agree with your assessment of the set! I blurted out the same thoughts when the show started! “How come there’s no set?” I like your EBay idea. May I suggest Jay Leno’s used goods also?

Suncatcher -my husband and I were killing ourselves laughing! It was like it was a spoof of a talk show! Yes, Jay Leno’s set would fetch big bucks. Good call!

The roll out chairs were the best! And that small pedestal stage for the interview segments.
