Finally, American Idol is live and unedited. Not unscripted, mind you, but unedited.
This week, the American public has to whittle down 31 singers to a Top 13 lineup for the Finals. This ritual will continue over three-day period beginning on Tuesday, February 18th at 8:00 PM on Fox.
I am not sure how this is going to play out but, apparently, some of the singers will be cut by the judges during the live show without being given an opportunity to perform. Well, that is just rude. What is the point of this?
At any rate, the Top 15 gals will perform, so to speak, on Tuesday, followed by the guys on Wednesday with the Results Show on Thursday.
Former Idol judge and veteran, Randy Jackson, accompanied by Idol Alumnae Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert, will be mentoring the singers, so that should be a fun and interesting segment of the show.
However, at the end of the day, we just want to hear these kids sing, so I hope they don’t get too hot and heavy with the behind the scenes stuff. If it is not interesting, everyone’s eyes will glaze over and the interest will wane.
Performing for your votes tonight are: (my personal preferences are in bold text. This may change as the show evolves.)
- Marrialle Sellars
- Briana Oakley
- Jena Irene Asciutto
- Kristen O’Connor
- Andrina Brogden
- Emily Piriz
- Kenzie Hall
- Bria Anai Johnson
- Brandy Neelly
- Majesty Rose
- Austin Wolfe
- Jess Meuse
- Malaya Watson
- Emkay Nobilette
- Jill Jensen
So there you have it everyone! Are you on board? I know I am. The artistic blend of this show is just sublime this season. I think they have captured the perfect chemistry between the judges, host, Rickey Minor and his band, the coaches – everything.
Comments are now open! See ya there!
Spencer, Sam and Magisty are my favs

MCL I haven’t enjoyed the other gals at all. Too much over-singing IMO or should I say screeching. 😦

Oh, how I would love to become the ‘Smaug’ of AI:) By the time I was finished, balance would have been restored in the AI universe. Plus the BIG universe also.

Liked Emily and MK!! The ones not picked can’t have been as bad as those picked.
Disappointed 😦

Yes, I agree Aubry. Now, MK – she was brilliant. Soft and subtle

Not enjoying the majority of picks so far. No Kenzie? No Austin? Ridiculous.

I agree very disappointed in the picks. WHY?

Where are the older females? This is not teen idol nor should it be. I like a mix of teens and young adults.

What a stupid, senseless process. All of them should have had a chance to perform in this round and if the home audience is going to chose the last boy in their top 15, they should have chosen the last girl as well. I liked your choices as well, MCL.
Daughtry’s advice was good. Adam’s suggestions didn’t seem to help anyone. Randy put me to sleep. I think all of the girls were over coached for this stage of the game and it contributed to the nervousness that most of them showed.
The little tuba player is a, well, hoot. She over sang her song tonight but she should be fun going forward. Keith was exactly right about her confidence making glasses and braces look cool and I liked her song choice.

Well said Gene. I have real issues with this process. The games never end. There was some remarkably refined singers who never performed this evening – like Kenzie and Austin. What a travesty for these young ladies.

Well said Gene. They games never end. I have real problems with this format. Some truly remarkable singers – like Kenzie and Austin – were totally robbed of an opportunity to perform. Plus, there was a refinement in their voices which I loved. Very, very disappointed.

I had high hopes for this season of AI – enjoyed the judges chemistry and comments during auditions and Hollywood week… but they blew it in my opinion with ‘rush week’.

While I love this new Workshop , I hate the fact that not all the girls got to sing. I guess a couple of them will be Wildcard contestants. Hopefully one of them will be Austin! I really love Brianna’s voice, even though I could see a couple flaws in her performance tonight. She’s got tons of potential though, and I sure was excited that she came back to audition this year. I’ll always believe that the Top 24 concept worked best! They need to bring it back!

I was very disappointed in the girls round last night. First of all, I thought it was ridiculous that they chose a top 15 but then picked the top 10. Why did they get hopes up for the other five? Very unfair. And I was quite disillusioned with the talent. I liked the first girl and the last girl (although more for personality than actual performance last night). But my very favorite was MK. By far the most enjoyable of all. I’m surprised that these were Harry Connick’s top picks.

Let’s hear it for the Top 24 format. Because it was the best. And, as I said in my article, to ignore 5 of the girls was just plain rude, especially since two – Austin and Kenzie – were, in my opinion, front- runners. What a mess. Nothing has changed.

And – I would like an explanation why those 5 girls were eliminated right out of the gate.

The TOP 24 was the best!! Certain contestants like Jason Castro never would have made it into the top 10 if the judges had their say.
I was hoping Harry had more control over which contestants moved on. That seems not the case. Harry understands that rifs and runs and vocal gymnastics is not the be all to end all. Girls with current interesting voice (except for Majesty and MK) were left out for the no control Diva’s. MCL I am very upset that Austin and Kenzie were not allowed to sing. Feels like more manipulation. Is it possible those not selected can return next year?
I saw Chris and Adam both trying and the contestants really not listening to advice. Both were right IMO gal should of dropped the guitar and paid more attention to her facial expressions ie not smile and laugh during such a dark song and the one that sang Roar should have brought it down as Adam suggested. Wish more of Adam and Chris were shown.
Hopefully the boys are better tonight. That Adam and Chris are shown more and that were get less vocal gymnastics and more heart felt performances.
MCL, is it possible that the gals were manipulated as AI wants a male winner this year? So they have stacked the deck? That is what I felt they did last year with the gals. None of the males who made it through were any good IMO at all.
Just pondering

Aubry – those were my thoughts as well. That they want a male winner. But, truthfully, the male singers always move forward with more ease than the females no matter how the deck is stacked. Tonight should be interesting.

I agree that overall, last night’s show was dissappointing. I really expected better performances. But, MK was wonderful, so understated and beautiful. I was just in tears while she was singing. She definately was my favorite of the night!

Yes Anite – she was terrific. Some intonation problems but I really appreciated the simplicity of her performance. My worry is that she may become a one-trick pony can she sing upbeat songs?

Rosanne-MK has never sung an uptempo song yet, and I’m with you. I hope she does soon, like next week!

Last night I was reading some articles about the girls’ performances, The writer said that Kenzie had decided that instead of a first and last name, she henceforth only wanted to be known as Kenz. As much as he liked her, he thought that was a little obnoxious. So for what it’s worth, I’m not agreeing with him necessarily, but thought I’d pass it on.
