It’s Top 8 week and we have seen a great deal of phenomenal talent come and go but, overall, this is pretty decent Top 8.

Team Adam seems to be kicking it this season. That’s what happens when the mentor is deemed by People as the “Sexiest Man Of The Year”. The fans come running and voting.

However, in as much as he does have a strong Team, my favorites happen to be on Team Christina. How about you?

She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. 1. I have to think that the Proactiv company was happiest to hear that Adam is the sexiest man alive.

Team Christina has my favorite as well but I’m not sure the winner will come from there. If Cee Lo can coax something more interesting out of Caroline, she could still take it. Christina has two contenders though. Adams team doesn’t interest me very much.

Looks like the Sing-Off will return this season but with Jewel taking over Sara Bareills’ spot.

  2. Gene – I am not a fan of Caroline at all. No star power whatsoever.

Love Christina’s team. They are the best of the best, I feel. I am sure others here will disagree. Haha. Everyone has their favorites, right?

  3. I think Caroline may be done. They did try to get her out of her box but she didn’t quite make it. Cee Lo’s comments sounded like a farewell to me and it also seemed like Adam undercut Tessanne a little bit.

Jacquie remains my favorite by far. She didn’t disappoint tonight even though she may have been a little over enthusiastic a few times during her performance. She bordered on screaming near the end. This kid gives you everything she’s got and that’s what I love about her.

I thought Will did a decent job with “At Last.” You won’t hurt my feelings singing the blues. He pushed a little too hard at the end of his song as well but I’m not going to hold it against him or Jacquie because they were both trying to give it all they had and just tried a little too hard..

Ray’s song choice took me back to my misspent youth, so that was a lot of fun. He may be the first singing show contestant to have ever covered the Spencer Davis Group.

Matthew performed well but I didn’t care for his song, but I’m sure he will remain a strong contender.

Vince Gill was a tough cover for Cole to pull off. I think Cole and Caroline may be going home this week.

  4. Glad to see a little discussion about The Voice. Although I think most of the remaining contestants are really enjoyable to listen to, my favorite has been James–partly because he grew up not far from my sister’s home. So I’m rooting for the “home” boy! There’s something really interesting about James to me. My favorite performance of his was several weeks ago when he sang the Carole King song. Absolutely loved it.

I like Jacquie sometimes. She is pretty amazing for a 16 year old girl, but last night her performance seemed a little over the top for me.

Sometimes I like Caroline too, and I think her sound has a place, but I don’t think she should win.

Tessanne is one of my favorites, but I don’t know if she can win. And Will impressed me more last night than ever before.

Young Matthew is usually quite good too, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win.–and getting some votes on looks alone will probably help him.

As for Cole and Ray–I’m not much of a fan of Cole’s, and I think Ray is getting better. But I’m sure he’s getting votes because he’s so nice to look at !!!

I agree with Gene that Cole and Caroline may go home tonight.

  5. Hi Louise,
I can’t disagree with you about Jacquie being over the top. That is Christina’s influence. I also didn’t like Cristina bringing in her choreographer and laying out the plan for Jacquie’s whole routine for us during the practice session. His “ideas” were what she does naturally and has been doing since the blind auditions and battle rounds but it gave the appearance that she was just going through the motions and that Christina and the choreographer were the brains behind the scenes. The “over the top” aspect really comes through on the recorded version as opposed to the live stage performance where there was enough visual interest to moderate the vocal a little. These things will pass one day when she is out from under Christina’s wing so I don’t worry too much about it now. As you noted, she is 16.

Tessanne may be that contestant that is the best, or one of the best, vocalist but can’t garner the fan support for one reason or another. I don’t see her winning.

James has had moments when I liked him but I’m over him now. He seemed like a geek that was making the transition to rock star before our eyes but I think the truth of it is that transition took place before we met him. He’s no stage virgin. Neither is Caroline for that matter. She has an album on iTunes.

Speaking of iTunes, I don’t know how they were charting during the voting period but Will is the only one in the top 10 now, followed by Cole, then James, Jacquie, Tessanne and Caroline. So Mat and Ray may be in trouble.

Who will win DWTS? I would like to see Jack and Cheryl win. How about you?

  6. Well all I know is this – I love little Jacquie. She is absolutely incredible. David Foster territory. He’ll come running – watch and see Ha!

And I still love Matthew very much – his look, his sound, his style. He is so current.

Tessane and Caroline, although talented, are my least favorites.

Thanks for your comments everyone. 🙂

  7. Gene,

To answer your DWTS question, I didn’t have a favorite this year because I became so invested in The Voice that I haven’t seen WTS for the last two weeks. I recorded it, but my life has been too busy to find time to watch it. But I did watch the last hour last night and was pleased to see Amber and Derek win. It would have been nice to see Jack win, but I honestly don’t think he was a better dancer than the other two.

James has an interesting background. He grew up in a very small town surrounded by Amish and Mennonite farms. But I think the show biz bug bit him when his cousin who grew up nearby found success in theater, TV, movies etc. about six years ago. His cousin is Jonathan Groff who was nominated for a Tony award and has had a role on Glee, in addition to many other roles in off Broadway productions, a movie coming out soon, etc. I really love James’ voice and while I’ll be surprised if he wins, hope that he has some success. I can understand that some people probably don’t like his entire persona, but I think it’s very genuine.

Matthew is quite good, but his Hallelujah performance was his best. With the right song, he could go all the way. And Will surprised me because while I think he’s talented, I’ve never loved him before and I thought he was terrific this week. I could see him winning too.

And then there is Jacquie. Very, very talented, but I’m not especially anxious to see her win.
