Performance Discussion For The Tony Awards With Host Neil Patrick Harris

20130608-195223.jpgI love me some Tony Awards. I am a certified Broadway Baby. Well, actually, I never grew up on Broadway but I always wanted to be under those shining lights. I could picture myself there. This is where I belonged. Someday!

Well, so much for the visualization process because it never happened. Ha! But I have enjoyed watching other colleagues gain recognition through their shining performances on Broadway.

And, hopefully, I will have a student or two land in the Big Apple someday, their names glittering from the marquee! A couple of young performers are well on their way. Maybe more. And I don’t want to jinx it by naming names. Far too much pressure!

But, for now, like many of you, I will be celebrating this enormously popular performance genre from the comfort of my home when the Tony Awards air live from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 9th at 8:00 P.M. on CBS.

According to the Official Website Of The Tony Awards, it is going to be a star-studded evening:

The stars will align at the American Theatre Wing’s 67th Annual Tony Awards® on Sunday night, June 9, with more performances and appearances from Broadway shows than ever before!

Casts of the following 2013 Tony Award-nominated musicals will be on hand to perform on the CBS telecast:

Annie
A Christmas Story, The Musical|
Bring It On: The Musical
Kinky Boots
Matilda The Musical
Motown The Musical
Pippin.
Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella;

In addition, the evening will also feature appearances by the casts of these currently running Broadway musicals:

Chicago
Jersey Boys
The Lion King
Newsies
Once
Mamma Mia!
The Phantom of the Opera
Rock of Ages
Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark

As previously announced, the 2013 Tony Awards, hosted by Emmy Award-winner Neil Patrick Harris, will also feature appearances by Tom Hanks, Jake Gyllenhaal, Scarlett Johansson, Sigourney Weaver, Anna Kendrick, Zachary Quinto, Sally Field, Audra McDonald, Cyndi Lauper, Jane Krakowski, Alan Cumming, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jon Cryer, Megan Hilty, Andrew Rannells, Matthew Morrison, Cuba Gooding Jr, Jesse Eisenberg, Laura Benanti, Steven Van Zandt, Martha Plimpton, Hal Prince, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Barrett Foa and Mike Tyson.

And, to take full advantage of digital technology, the Tonys are offering many opportunities to interact via your device or computer. Cool!

So to all nominated, congratulations! You are the crème de la crème in a performance genre like no other in the world. The place where triple threat rules supreme.

Watch along with me and add your commentary. It’s going to be a great night of live entertainment. Live! Like they actually sing and dance and act for real. It’s a new concept you may have read about. Ha!

  2. I thought the Tony Awards were fabulous! Neil Patrick Harris is so talented and just seems like a nice guy. There was so much entertainment and a good representation of plays and musicals. I am a fan of Cyndi Lauper. She hit the jackpot this tear. Good for her! I hope Tom Hanks will appear again on Broadway. I have got to get to New York to see, “The Motown Story.” Or, I could wait until it appears in Detroit. lol.
