Vocal Masterclass Discussion For American Idol Season 12 Top 4 Results Show: Now And Then

20130502-135414.jpgI will be live blogging the Results Show (at the bottom of this article), so bookmark this page and refresh often between 8:00 – 9:00 P.M. Eastern.

As much as I am intrigued about the results on tonight’s show, I am more excited about the appearance by the fella in the above picture.

Yes, Season 7 winner, David Cook will be performing his new single, “Laying Me Low” on Thursday evening’s Results Show.

The song is a great, great composition – hooks galore and a veritable showpiece for David’s powerful and technically solid vocals. If this doesn’t land in the Number One spot somewhere soon, it will speak volumes for the pathetic state of the music industry in general.

Because, David Cook is all about musical excellence. He is brilliant and he is no copy cat. And don’t get me started on the whole charisma thing. He has that in spades.

The meaty quality to his voice is so expressive and relentless – it grabs your heart and soul.

So, his performance, when added to tonight’s results, should give the ratings a boost.

Who is going home? If they are smart, they will just keep this Top 4 in place until the end. It makes sense really since, next week, one of the songs to be performed with be the Judges’ Pick. Four judges = four singers.

What do y’all think? Oh, and while you’re waiting, you can download David’s new single on iTunes

  • Top 4 Group Number. Crazy In Love or something. Sorry. Missed the intro. Pre-mixed vocals except for the solos. Lots of people on stage.
  • Summer tour promo.
  • Fiesta Mission Commercial time.
  • Results Time and Jimmy Speaks
  • Angie is up first. Jimmy said that Diamonds didn’t work. Her Gershwin number was not special enough
  • .

  • Amber is next. The first number sounded too karaoke. Second number was magnificent and Amber crushed it.
  • Candice is third. Both songs were magnificent and head and shoulders above the rest. No kidding!!
  • Kree is last. She hasn’t lived up to her full potential over the last two weeks. Jimmy thinks she may be in trouble this week.
  • David Cook is up after the break. Yahoo!
  • A video depicting David Cook‘s amazing journey. He is still very busy with brain cancer research in memory of his brother. He loves the talent on AI 12.
  • David is one classy guy. He performs his latest single and is rocking it! Still has great technique except for the scrunched up eyes. Ha! Oh no. Did he tattoo his arms? Ha! Love the group a cappella bit. Very neat. He is such a showman. Very sophisticated performance. The audience is on their feet for him. Well deserved. Ryan reminds him that Mariah was his mentor during Season 7. And, he moved to Nashville. Has a house and three dogs. Such a sweet guy.
  • Will I Am is on singing “Bang, Bang” from “The Great Gatsby”. It is televised in black and white and I am digging this. Now, comes the color. This is the best! Very retro and some Charleston music to boot. New Orleans flair. Definitely one of the neatest things I have ever see on this stage. Kudos!!
  • it’s throwback Thursday so let’s focus on former Idol finalist, Constantine. What? Where did this come from? Good to see Constantine again and he is a great success on Broadway in Jekyll and Hyde
  • Harry Connick Jr. is performing something. Just not sure what. Haha. But it’s good but he is no Michael Buble. His voice is limited and I actually like him better as an actor quite frankly. This is where his strength lies.
  • Results after the commercial break.
  • Nicki is giving the Top 4 a supportive pep talk.
  • Angie makes it to the Top 3. Candice makes it to the Top 3. Amber and Kree are left. Results after the commercial break.
  • Kree is safe. Amber is eliminated. No surprise but she is such a promising rising young star.
  • Amber will be fine. Top 4 is a good place to be. She will be signed.
  • Amber sings “I Believe You And Me” and she sounds like an angel. A broken-hearted angel but so outstanding. And that high note. Gorgeous. Dad joins her on stage and she breaks down. Mariah and Nicki are. crying. She waves valiantly to the crowd. Very emotional. We have been here before. One of the best is gone – for now!

    1. MCL…completely off topic!!! Did you see where AGT now has 2 female judges to host with Howard and Howie!!! I liked their 3 person panel before…4 people just takes so long to get all of their opinions across!!!

    2. Vonnie – I know. I prefer the three judge panel. But this year’s show is going to be outstanding. Can’t wait.

    5. Harry was awful!! Terrible! Cook wasn’t much better. Glad Angie and Candice are safe. They deserved to be safe and the final three. Did not care if it was Kree or Amber.

Yeah … I hate the part when they make them sing after they have been voted off. I feel so bad for them. but as I said before , Top 4 is BIG and if they are good as their fans say someone will pick them up. We know folks who haven’t made it that far and have done incredibly well. What would be a travesty would be if in 3 or 4 years from now the people who voted for them don’;t even remember their names. It’d great too see Amber do like Jennifer did and prove the Idol audience wrong. I;m always looking for that

II think Jimmy hit the nail on the head about Kree. She set a high standard for herself earlier on and her last two weeks of performances although they were good , did not match up to the standard she has set in prior episodes. I think she is going to surprise everybody next week but I think Candice is going to blow us a way.

    8. I was sorry to see Amber go tonight but hope that she has a successful career.

And Brother Karl, I hope you’re right about your prediction of Candice blowing us away next week. Of course, she blows me away most weeks!!!

    9. Whew!! I almost lost it watching Amber sing tonight. And her dad coming up on stage……! Such a sweet, beautiful moment!! I really wanted to see Amber in the Top 3, but anyway. I love what Keith said about having an audience is more rewarding than a hit single. Amber certainly has that, and I’m sure she will gain even more fans down the line. No matter what anyone says on other sites, she has one of the finest female voices ever to be on AI.

I’m hoping for a Candice/Angie Finale, and Candice getting the confetti bath in the end!!!!

    10. Anita – I echo your sentiments wholeheartedly. Amber has quite the career ahead of her. She is gorgeous and has a voice to match. Hopefully, it will be a Candice – Angie finale but Kree may surprise us. Se has a very loyal fanbase and, of course, that country connection so….

    11. I am sick and tired of seeing talented young singers get chewed up and spit out by this stupid show. They did it to Siobhan three years ago, and it happened again to Amber this year. Kree already had TWO record deals before appearing on Idol. What makes anyone think she’ll make a dent in the music business this time around? Artists like her are a dime a dozen in the real world. The fact that she still has zero personality or charisma after all these years in the business should raise a major red flag. She might even be a bigger flop than Lee DeWyze if she manages to win this thing.

    12. MCL…do you know what the theme is for next week…isn’t top three when we have a judges pick?

I so hope that You guys are right about Candice getting the Confetti Bath… 🙂

The thing that I do like about this show, like brotherkarl said you can leave anywhere in the top ten and still go on to do great things…look at Constatine last night, he is on top of the Broadway scene and he is an idol kid…so many of them are working because of idol…none of the other singing shows can boast about putting out stars like Idol can…
