Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8. In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman. In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins. In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright. In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins. Under Rosanne Simunovic’s direction, the Timmins Youth Singers and the Timmins Concert Singers have been featured in numerous choral festivals and performing opportunities outside of Timmins.     That really was the best season, with so much of what was right about the show–and, especially, the right attitude from so many of that year’s Idols!

    This was the very best year on Idol ever. Those top ten were all just a class act. Talent ,personalities,compatible, and just all round great people. A very entertaining season. There was no “It’s all about me” in that group. I think the best word to describe season 7 was it was GENUINE.

    Season 7 was just the best year for Idol….and you’re so right..a picture is worth a thousand words..but…I do love your words too.. and your title is so right…this is EXACTLY what Idol needs right now…thanks for posting this..

    I am going to see Jason Castro June 7th and the Blue Ocean in Salisbury, Ma Love him and his artistry. Loved both AI 7 and AI 8. Been down hill since then. AI5 was really good as well.

    Perfect blog on what AI needs to get back to. Season 7 was the best! I still go back and watch videos of all of those talented people, and I follow Jason Casto’s career quite closely.

    No season compares to season 7!! As you know I adore David Archuleta! Miss him for now but think he will be back better than ever!! Waiting earnestly for 2014!!

    Lynne, I follow Jason Castro quite closely as well. He was so awesome on AI. Refreshingly candid, funny and down to earth. Jason’s Halleluiah and Achie’s Angels are still in most peoples Top Ten Idol Performances of all-time. Laz butchered it.

    Peggy – they are the fantastic singers from Season 7. Regular readers here are aware of my fondness for that season and Idol has not been the same since. That Season was pure magic.

    I agree, Season7 was the best. They not only sang well together, they cared about each other. Up to this day some of them still stay in touch with each other. I’m an Archie, so you can guess who my AI is. LOL!!

    Love this! I just was listening to the Shout to the Lord with Spanish lyrics this very morning. It’s one of the best group songs ever. I agree, the S7 group is so missing from Idol this year!

    Thank you MCL for the pics, vids and memories. From the opening theme to the closing credit, each show that season left me feeling I had been entertained. All of the elements of the show; performance, judging and the Ryan segements seemed to flow together so well.

    Thank you Rosanne for featuring my FAVORITE season on American Idol. I was a Dreadhead from the moment I laid my eyes on him, but what a great TOP 10 they had. Once Jason was eliminated, we were left with three Finalists who could easily be the winner. What great songs they sang the entire season! Their group performances were the best. Remember several of the guys dancing and doing western dancing moves? They laughed and had a great time.

    The key point is the CHEMISTRY between them. Later, I found out that Brooke White would lead with a group prayer before each show. There were strong bonds there. The best part is that my daughter took me to the Idol concert!! Oh my goodness, there was so much electricity in the air. Lots of screaming girls and terrific performances!

    I don’t know if Idol can ever recapture that kind of artistry, chemistry, and personality again. Aubrey, I also thought Season 5 was a terrific season. Lynne, I also follow Jason on Twitter. Lovable guy!

    Easily the very best season of AI — I have since stopped watching, the soul seems to have left the show. And the vid of the recording of Shout to The Lord — amazing. Thanks for the posting.

    I so agree. Season 7 had talent but it also had heart. It was obvious the entire season all the way up to the finale when David Cook won and David Archuleta’s words to him were those of love and pride in him. I love this version of Shout to the Lord. Listen to it regularly on my iPod.

    Thanks MCL!! Season 7 for the Win! Shout it to the Lord. Big Fan of David Archuleta from the first song “Waiting on the World To Change” and haven’t looked back.
    The group were talented, caring, and had Chemistry. Fans ever since have continued to root for those from that season whether they were the favorite or not!!
    You can see it and hear it in this song for sure. 🙂

    MCL I couldn’t agree with you more. I watched AI from the beginning, I was a huge fan of the show but never was invested in any of the contestants until this little guy made me take notice with Waiting On the World To Change during auditions and I’ve never looked back or watched AI again.

    I was at the Sounds Of David event and loved your message.

    I know we’re talking about the camaraderie of season 7, but personally I really enjoyed the friendship in season 8. It was so apparent throughout the season, and they’ve still kept up the friendship. I know Anoop went to one of Kris’s concerts this year, and Adam tweeted his congratulations to when Kris announced that Katy was expecting their first child.
