Okay, now that those tiresome preliminary auditions are over, we can get down to the nitty-gritty stuff happening during Hollywood Week.

This should be interesting. And, as much as I want to see how some these singers fare during this stressful, tell-all week, I am also curious to see how the judges handle this situation as a group.

The paring-down process is never easy and, because each of these judges are so diverse in their thinking, this may prove to be a very interesting segment on this season’s show.

I honestly do not have one favorite this season. There are many singers that I did enjoy seeing and hearing during the preliminary auditions but it is still hard to say how well they will do when confronted with the reality of this very competitive situation.

I will be live blogging the show when it airs Wednesday and Thursday on the East Coast at 8:00 P.M. on FOX, so come back and add to the lively discussion.

Live Update:

  • 7:55 P.M. Are you ready? Hooray for Hollywood! Auditions that is!
  • 8:0 P.M. Only 20 Guys and 20 Girls will make the cut. Will your favorite be one of them. – Ryan Seacrest
  • 8:05 P.M. The guys are up first. Each group of guys will come out in a line of 10 and sing a cappella. Decisions are made immediately.
  • 8:06 P.M. Micah Johnson is first and he does quite well with an Elton Johnnumber.. Very well. He moves forward. Peter, Devon and ?? move on as well. Nate Tao and Gabe Brown and The Terminator move on as well.
  • 8:09 P.M. Karl Skinner performs pretty well and he is eliminated. Same for Dustin Watts and Dr. Calvin Peters. Cortez Shaw sings a powerful rendition of I Will Always Love You and his fate is determined after the commercial.
  • 8:12 P.M. Commercial break. Have to say that no one has really impressed me yet.
  • 8:15 P.M. Cortez Shaw has mixed reviews but is given a second chance. Curtis Finch Jr. blows the judges away as does Frankie Ford.. Lazaro, the young man with the stuttering problem, is up next. He sings Angels and, truthfully, his nasal tone is really unpleasant. However, he sings with his heart and this motivates the judges to move him forward. Bryant, Charles and ?? get to see another day.
  • 8:21 P.M. Brian Rittenberry was just okay for me and he does not get to see another day. Too bad.
  • 8:22 P.M. Coming up after the commercial break are the group rounds.
  • 8:28 P.M. Group night is stressful for the singers. Some are not team players. Haha where do some of these people come from? Haven’t they ever watched this show before?
  • 8:29 P.M. There is a special twist this year. Nigel is introduced and tells the singers that they will assign the groups and the singers cannot make changes. I like this idea. Saves time. They must master the lyrics, harmonies and choreography in one night.
  • 8:31 P.M. However the members of the groups are having problems agreeing on song choice. Oh dear.
  • 8:33 P.M. Some of the groups have solidified and have started working with Michael Orland.. And they sound very good. Some nice harmonies happening.
  • 8:37 P.M. After the commercial break, we start with the group auditions. Sooo much drama!
  • 8:40 P.M. Sorry folks. Power outage here. Can’t update.

    3. i’ve caught up. i have always loved the ‘groups’ sessions. not the fighting and all the other, rather, the performances. it is amazing how some can be so absolutely wonderful, and others can be so very very bad. i did not like nicki at all. i felt she was disrespectful to people by not calling them their real names, etc, however in the last two shows they edited her better and i appreciated her. i liked her honesty, if i ask someone something i want them to tell me the truth. her telling the ‘short guy’ that he is becoming a ‘pity party’ had to be very very hard for him to take but in the end i believe it will be a very very valuable lesson for him.

brother carl originally said nicki does not give enough respect to mariah, i don’t think mariah deserves any more respect than anyone else. all people need respect. in a way it is kind of funny because mariah is the diva, but nicki hogs the attention. that might be good for mariah. in the end they will both grow from this experience. i do wish i could pull all the make up and other false stuff off of nicki and just see the real her.
