Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

MCL, it’s interesting what you said about not being able to remember the names of Voice contestants. I was thinking this same thing the other day.
I really enjoy singing competition shows and have watched almost all of them since Idol began 11 years ago. I can clearly remember the names of dozens of Idol contestants going all the way back to season 1 (Tamyra Gray, RJ Helton, Nikki McKibbin, etc.). But I can’t remember the names of ANY Voice contestants. All I can remember is that the winner of season 1 was a black guy, and the winner of season 2 was another black guy. Beyond that, I just draw a blank.
So why are Idol contestants more memorable than the other singing shows? For me, Idol just seems to have more “heart” than the other shows. For all the complaining we sometimes do about Idol, the structure of the Idol show gives us a better opportunity to get to know and develop an emotional connection with the contestants. Of the three major singing shows, Idol puts the most focus on the contestants. With the Voice, the focus is on the celebrity judges. And with X Factor, the focus is on Simon and the production values featuring dancers, smoke, weird makeup, outlandish costumes, shooting flames, and exploding glitter.
Regarding the performances this week, what stood out the most for me was the huge disconnect between Sylvia Yacoub’s performance of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” and the judge’s comments. The comments were all highly favorable, but to me her singing was the worst of the night. I wanted to cover my ears. As the judges were praising her, I thought I must be either losing my hearing or the sound on my TV is defective. Am I the only person who felt this way?

i agree malden, i thought the judging was a lot more favorable than the singing was.

No Malden. You are correct. The judges were blowing smoke like there was no tomorrow.
The only real VOICE I heard was Trevin. He sang “When a Man loves a woman”. Incredible. It would be a travesty if he didn’t win this competition.
The simplicity of Idol is wonderful. No clutter. Just singers – some good, some not – but overall we see the growth of these singers as the show moves along.
This is exactly what the other shows are missing. Heart – as you said, Malden, and absolute focus on the singers.

Hi Master Class Lady! This is a grade 7 class in New Liskeard and we are studying blogs. I showed my class this blog and we like what you have to say about the Voice. My class likes Cee-Lo. One of my students was trying to tell me about a contestant he likes but he couldn’t remember his name either! The singer is short and stubby, wears a fedora (Michael Jackson syle hat??), has a goatie. He can’t even remember the team he’s on but this boy watches the show every week.
Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to use your site for an educational purpose! Maybe you have adopted some more followers!

The judges and singers do show great respect for one another. Great role models for all of you.
