Vocal Masterclass Discussion For Season 3 Of The Voice: The Battle Rounds Week Two

This week, we are off to the races again with another couple of episodes of NBC’s popular show, The Voice .

The show airs Monday and Tuesday at 8:00 P.M., as singers from the same team face off against each other.

The talent this season is miles above last year’s crop and many of the Battle Round performances are breathtaking. In many instances, it is difficult to choose the better singer of the duo whereas last season there was always one standout in each duet.

The addition of the Judges’ Steal is working extremely well and adds another measure of excitement to the mix.

The coaches are doing a fabulous job with these singers and the guest coaches compliment their work extremely well. All are knowledgeable and extremely efficient and precise in their analysis.

I hope many of you tune in and share your comments after the show. Or before! I’m not fussy!

  1. There were three singers that got my attention last night although, as you said, it is difficult to pick a winner in a lot of these battles.

The first was Nicholas, the guy with long hair and a scruffy beard. I liked him in the blind audition but wow, I really loved him in this round. His competitors only sin was not having a distinct tone to his voice, otherwise he did a nice job with the Hall and Oats tune.
Next was a young girl on Christina’s team that lost her battle to the girl that sounds like Christina. I thought the young girl was better in every way except loudness. Blake and Adam wanted her but Adam stole her. Her smile and friendly demeanor along will sell a million records. She had a fresh and interesting style on stage as well.

The third was a young woman who I have liked since the blind rounds as well. Her name was Suzanna Choffel. I’m not sure if they are playing games with us regarding her or not. On the show they present her as a demure music teacher who thinks she might be able to break out of her shell and be a performer. I did a little research on the WWW and find she has two CDs on iTunes, is a seasoned veteran local performer, speaks with a great deal of authority and maturity, with a very pleasant speaking voice btw, and seems not to be like she is presented at all. Her competitor was good as well, but she prevailed in the battle round, which she had to do if she is going to be in the finalee as I predicted earlier. Right? That was the kiss of death for her.

Nicholas was the most entertaining and got the “YES” response from me last night.

  2. Great analysis, Gene. I too thought that Christina selected the wrong girl but I knew Adam would snatch her up. She is a real sweetie.

All the duos were strong – they could tour and make oodles of money as a team. So impressed with the talent this year.

  3. Yeah, that girl had something special. I really enjoyed watching her performance. I agree that many of these pairings would make a good duo. The option to combine competitors into a duo, much like the X-Factor, might be an interesting new feature to add next year. I would like to see the tour you spoke of.
